We propose an algorithm for the optimal operation schedule of the BOG compression process based on simulation of the dynamic behavior of an LNG tank. The algorithm uses an empirical boil-off rate model to predict the amount of BOG generation, and an MILP formulation to distribute the BOG compressors loads. Finally, a safety analysis is done using a dynamic simulator. To improve the accuracy, Aspen Dynamics with the Peng-Robinson equation of state is used in place of a simplified dynamic model used before. The dynamic simulation of the LNG tank pressure showed the results of oscillation within a safe pressure range while the BOG compressors were operated normally. The performance of the proposed algorithm was found to be superior to the algorithm used in routine processes as well as those from previous works in terms of safety and energy savings.
Development of Chemical Accident Classification Codes and Tool for Management in Process Industries
Jang, Namjin,Han, Kyusang,Koo, Jamin,Yoon, Yi,Yong, Jongwon,Yoon, En Sup The Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan 2009 Journal of chemical engineering of Japan Vol.42 No.10
<P>In this study, domestic and international chemical accident databases are analyzed, and a chemical accident reporting system is developed using chemical accident classification codes. These codes are revised by adopting the data collected in 2115 cases of chemical accidents that occurred in S. Korea over the last 20 years. The revised classification codes are composed of 12 upper, 64 middle, and 276 lower classes. The developed database is composed of data input, data list, and data search modules as well as statistic and analysis modules. Module operations help obtain information on relationships between accident data attributes that are not apparent, in addition to simple statistical results. The chemical accident tracking system is available on the Internet, and the data are treated using an on-line analytical system. The records are statistically analyzed to identify type of accidents that occurs frequently in Korean chemical companies, as well as the accident data and materials involved. We expect the results of this study to be useful in reporting for developing a management of system for prevention of chemical accidents, and improve the manageability of the designed system.</P>

Three formula types (gel, cookie, and liquid), six commercial roach bait products containing one of active ingredients among Fipronil, Avermectin, Dinotefuran, and Chlorpyrifos were examined against susceptible strain of German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.). For the results of killing speed (LT50 values), universal killing speed effects depended on bait formula types. The killing speed of liquid bait formula type was the fastest among three formula types. Followed by gel bait type and cookie bait type. However the control speed (LT90 values) effects depended on the active ingredients that contained in roach baits. The baits contained Fipronil were shown the strongest control performance against German cockroaches. Chlorpyrifos was similar with Fipronil. Followed by Avermectin and Dinotefuran.
Development of chemical accident database: Considerations, accident trend analysis and suggestions
Namjin Jang,윤인섭,Jamin Koo,신동일,Moon Shik Jo,Yi Yoon 한국화학공학회 2012 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.29 No.1
Traditionally, regulations, standards, codes and management systems were established after major accidents such as Seveso Directive by Seveso accident, Italy, in 1976, etc. Also, several chemical material and process accident databases were developed and implicated in the world. In this paper, we introduce a set of recently developed databases, such as eMARS (EC), HSEES (USA) and PEC-SAFER (Japan), and describe current development of a chemical accident tracking system in Korea. Especially, we intensively focused on general classification codes, simplified and effective database structure, user friendly interface and intuitional searching methods. Additionally, the chemical accident trends were analyzed by using third grade of accident casualties and property’s loss. Finally, suggestions for applicability improvement of database are proposed. To improve the management and operability of hazardous materials and chemical processes, the systemic approaches are essential using accident database. The developed database and suggested issues in this study can perform an important function in the chemical industries.
