The purpose of this study was to explore how to access nuring information using computer and other softwares. It described the ways to reach and get the database on abstracts of masters' and doctoral dissertations in nursing and medicine in Korea. It also provided the ways to get nursing related database around the world, such as Medline, using internet search tools. Internet search tools included databases and their themes and unique characteristics. In addition, the study illustrated the ways to use netscape navigator using LAN or modem and to use CINAHL-CD-Rom title which is commonly utilized in nursing. The results of this study might help nurses and nursing scholars efficiently access the needed information and database which can be utilized in education and research areas.

Running title: Cases of anesthesia for extremely low birth weight infant. Extremely low birth weight infants (birth weight < 1000 g) are prone to various morbidities such as respiratory distress syndrome, intraventricular hemorrhage, periventricular leukomalacia, patent ductus arteriosus, necrotizing enterocolitis and retinopathy. To accomplish successful anesthetic management, many precautions must be continuously taken during the operation. First, inspired oxygen concentration should be adjusted to avoid oxygen toxicity. Second, body temperature must be maintained adequately. Third, hemodynamic parameters should be kept stable. We report 2 cases of successful anesthetic management for extremely low birth weight infant who underwent ligation of patent ductus arteriosus at the neonatal intensive care unit.

We developed fog detection algorithm (KNU_FDA) based on the optical and textural properties of fog using satellite (COMS) and ground observation data. The optical properties are dual channel difference (DCD: BT3.7 - BT11) and albedo, and the textural properties are normalized local standard deviation of IR1 and visible channels. Temperature difference between air temperature and BT11 is applied to discriminate the fog from other clouds. Fog detection is performed according to the solar zenith angle of pixel because of the different availability of satellite data: day, night and dawn/dusk. Post-processing is also performed to increase the probability of detection (POD), in particular, at the edge of main fog area. The fog probability is calculated by the weighted sum of threshold tests. The initial threshold and weighting values are optimized using sensitivity tests for the varying threshold values using receiver operating characteristic analysis. The validation results with ground visibility data for the validation cases showed that the performance of KNU_FDA show relatively consistent detection skills but it clearly depends on the fog types and time of day. The average POD and FAR (False Alarm Ratio) for the training and validation cases are ranged from 0.76 to 0.90 and from 0.41 to 0.63, respectively. In general, the performance is relatively good for the fog without high cloud and strong fog but that is significantly decreased for the weak fog. In order to improve the detection skills and stability, optimization of threshold and weighting values are needed through the various training cases.

Background: This study was done to evaluate the effect on pain relief when acetaminophen was added to lidocaine for intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA). Methods: Sixty patients undergoing hand or forearm surgery received IVRA were assigned to three groups: Group C received 0.5% lidocaine diluted with 0.9% normal saline to a total volume of 40 ml (n=20), Group P received 0.5% lidocaine diluted with intravenous acetaminophen 300 mg to a total volume of 40 ml (n=20) and Group K received 0.5% lidocaine diluted with 0.9% normal saline plus ketorolac 10 mg made up to a total volume of 40 ml (n=20). Sensory block onset time, tourniquet pain onset time, which was defined as the time from tourniquet application to fentanyl administration for relieving tourniquet pain and amount of analgesic consumption during surgery were recorded. Following deflation of tourniquet sensory recovery time, postoperative pain and quantity of analgesic uses in post-anesthesia care unit were assessed. Results: Sensory block onset time was shorter in Group P compared to Group C (P<0.05). Tourniquet pain onset time was delayed in Group P when compared with group C (P<0.05). Postoperative pain and analgesic consumption were reduced in Group P and Group K compared to Group C (P<0.001). Conclusions: The addition of acetaminophen to lidocaine for IVRA shortens the onset time of sensory block and delays tourniquet pain onset time, but not with ketorolac. Both acetaminophen and ketorolac reduce postoperative pain and analgesic consumption. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2010; 58: 357-361)

The entire nucleotide sequence of the HIS3 gene encoding imidazoleglycerol phosphate dehydratase (IGPD) in yeast Candida milleri CBS 8195 was determined. Sequence analysis revealed an open-reading frame of C. milleri HIS3 that spans 678 bp, encodes 226 amino acids, and shares 80.5% amino acid identity to Torulaspora delbrueckii IGPD, followed by that to Saccharomyces cerevisiae (79.6%). The cloned HIS3 gene complemented a his3 mutation in S. cerevisiae, suggesting that it encodes a functional IGPD in C. milleri CBS 8195. A new auxotrophic marker is now available for acid-tolerant yeast C. milleri.
Gastric stem cells and gastric cancer stem cells
Myoung-Eun Han,Sae-Ock Oh 대한해부학회 2013 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.46 No.1
The gastric epithelium is continuously regenerated by gastric stem cells, which give rise to various kinds of daughter cells, including parietal cells, chief cells, surface mucous cells, mucous neck cells, and enteroendocrine cells. The self-renewal and differentiation of gastric stem cells need delicate regulation to maintain the normal physiology of the stomach. Recently, it was hypothesized that cancer stem cells drive the cancer growth and metastasis. In contrast to conventional clonal evolution hypothesis, only cancer stem cells can initiate tumor formation, self-renew, and differentiate into various kinds of daughter cells. Because gastric cancer can originate from gastric stem cells and their self-renewal mechanism can be used by gastric cancer stem cells, we review here how critical signaling pathways, including hedgehog, Wnt, Notch, epidermal growth factor, and bone morphogenetic protein signaling, may regulate the self-renewal and differentiation of gastric stem cells and gastric cancer stem cells. In addition, the precancerous change of the gastric epithelium and the status of isolating gastric cancer stem cells from patients are reviewed.
