      • Adaptive MIMO Schemes for Future Mobile Terminal with Flexible Shape Change and Antenna Configuration

        Recently flexible mobile terminals which can freely change the shape of its device are coming out with the development of the flexible display, high capacity memory and system integration technology. The display and the antenna configuration of the future terminals will be altered according to the QoS (quality of service) of users and the environments of communication he experienced. In particular, we present the new emergence of a multimedia language for human and system to communicate over subjective concepts, intention of users. The intension of users is expressed by changing the shape of their mobile terminal. In addition, antenna configuration is also related to shape of terminal and QoS of users. Therefore, we set up a specific usage scenarios for future mobile terminals and propose an adaptive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) schemes that can maximize channel capacity and fit to QoS of users simultaneously.

      • A Downlink OFDM Code-Division Multiplexing Using the Time Spreading Methods

        In this paper, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing - code division multiplexing (OFDM-CDM) using the reduced complexity Dynamic Channel Allocation (DCA) is proposed as alternative to multi carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) system. An additional multi user diversity gain can be obtained with OFDM-CDM by adapting sub-band based DCA to each user data, and computational complexity can be alleviated by using of maximum ratio combining (MRC) instead of minimum mean square error combining (MMSEC) method at the receiver. The simulation results show that proposed OFDM-CDM outperforms conventional MC-CDMA and OFDMA using DCA with respect to BER and complexity.

      • Development of Safe Driving Application using Emotional Recognition of Smartphone User

        Recently, cases of road rage are reported worldwide and they often cause unpleasant experiences or serious road accidents. And aggressive moods such as irritation and tense are closely correlated with the road rages. Therefore detecting their cues from driver’s behaviors and expression is most important role of an IDAS (intelligent driver assistance system) for future safe driving. Lots of researches have been deployed for extracting useful emotional information from drivers by analyzing their facial expression and voice with costly camera and microphone. However, past works on human affections are seldom useful in automobile environment due to low precision and processing delay. In this paper, we propose a smart phone application (Apps.) as an accurate and fast tool for emotional recognition of drivers. The smart phone detects emotion of driver using 3 bionic sensors and IDAS on the car sends warning message or music, sprays a perfume for calm down and slows down a speed of vehicle automatically. With developing application program for IDAS, we show the potential of utilizing smart phone as a detection device for driver’s emotions in order to prevent unexpected accidents from road rages.

      • Arduino based Smart Home System for the Elderly

        In recent years, there are a growing number of senior citizens due to the influence of the nuclear family. Since the elderly are restricted mobility due to chronic illness, they have difficulty to operate the electronics, air-conditioning and lighting equipment in the home. On the other hand, we are deprived of great interest in the smart home system that provides automation in the private homes, such as lightning and temperature control, security system for door/window, and gas valve checking. Thus, by introducing a smart home system in the house of elderly people, it is possible to provide a convenient and safe life for the elderly living alone. It is known that Arduino switching system using Bluetooth can give a remote control for the household appliances at a low price. Therefore, in this paper, we have implemented an inexpensive and efficient smart home system for the elderly by interworking smart-phones and Arduino-based switches. In order to test the feasibility of the Arduino based smart home system, we have implemented remote control system for desk lamp, electric fan, door lock and gas valve in the smart-phone. Experimental results showed that the proposed system could be applicable to smart home system for the elderly.

      • Multi-pairing System between Smart-phone and Multiple Bionic-sensors for u-Healthcare of the Elderly

        In recent years, in order to implement u-Healthcare system for the elderly, the PHD (Personal Health Device) that measures various biometric data easily are highlighted for ensuring portability, scalability and interoperability among multiple bionic sensors. In this paper, we’d like to propose u-healthcare monitoring system that measure biometric data such as Oxygen saturation, HRV(heart rate variables) and Blood pressure by PHD featured with transferring data into smart phone using Bluetooth 4.0 based on time division access pairing. Consequently, if we adopt the proposed the multi-pairing method, the older smart phone users could monitor their health condition continuously and unconsciously at anytime and anywhere.

        냉증을 진단하고 치료하는 산소챔버 시스템의 설계

        냉감을 느끼지 않을만한 온도에서 신체부위에 차가움을 느껴 일상생활이 곤란함을 호소하는 냉증환자가 늘 어남에도 불구하고, 정확한 진단기구와 뚜렷한 치료기기가 없는 것이 사실이다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 다양한 센서 를 통하여 냉증을 측정 및 진단하고 환자의 냉증정도에 맞게 적응적으로 산소압과 치료시간을 조정할 수 있는 산소 챔버를 냉증치료용 의료기기로 제안․설계한다. 특히 의사의 진찰과 문진을 통해 경험에 의존하던 기존의 주관적인 냉 증 진단 방법에서 벗어나, 첨단 복합 생체센서의 측정데이터를 임상실험에 근거한 임계치를 바탕으로 비교함으로써 냉증을 정확히 진단하는 방법을 소개한다. 최종적으로 냉증의 진단 단계에 따라 적응적으로 산소량을 제어함으로써 냉증을 효과적으로 치료하는 산소챔버를 구현하여 한의학 의료기기의 과학화와 대중화에 기여하고자 한다. Although there are many patients who suffer from cold hypersensitivity and have a difficult time in living daily lives due to feeling cold at room temperature, it is about true that an accurate diagnostic method and an effective remedy for a cold hypersensitivity have not been developed yet. Therefore, in order to develop traditional medicine equipment for cold hypersensitivity, we have designed new oxygen chamber system which can diagnose cold hypersensitivity with multiple bionic sensors and supply a patient optimum amount of oxygen adaptively to the extent of their illness. In particular, diverging from conventional diagnosis based on the experience of doctor and subjective statements of patient, we introduced accurate method for diagnosis in comparing between output of multiple sensors and threshold derived from clinical trials. After all, the proposed oxygen chamber system will contribute to achieving scientific evidence and manufacturing of korean traditional medicine.

        가변 형태의 미래형 단말기를 위한 의도인식 통신시스템

        최근 유연한 디스플레이, 고용량 메모리 및 집적기술의 발전으로 가변형태의 미래형 단말기가 개발되고 있 다. 이때 디스플레이의 크기 및 안테나 성상의 변화는 사용자의 QoS 및 통신환경의 변화와 관계가 깊다. 특히 사용 자의 의도는 단말기의 모양변화 및 안테나 개수의 증감으로 표현되는데 기지국이 지능적으로 의도를 파악하여 적응 적으로 다중안테나 기법을 변경하여 적용함으로써 단말기 사용자의 QoS를 효과적으로 만족시킬 수 있다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 미래형 단말기의 활용시나리오를 분석하여 거기에 맞는 적응적인 MIMO기법을 사용함으로써 채널용 량을 최대화 시키는 동시에 사용자의 QoS를 만족시킬 수 있는 의도 인식 통신시스템을 제안한다.
