      • Score Based Risk Assessment of Lung Cancer and its Evaluation for Bangladeshi People

Mukti, Roushney Fatima,Samadder, Pratul Dipta,Emran, Abdullah Al,Ahmed, Farzana,Imran, Iqbal Bin,Malaker, Anyanna,Yeasmin, Sabina Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.17

Background: The problem of cancer, especially lung cancer, is very acute in Bangladesh. The present study was conducted to evaluate the risk of lung cancer among Bangladeshi people based on hereditary, socio-economic and demographic factors. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out in 208 people (patients-104, controls-104) from January 2012 to September 2013 using a structured questionnaire containing details of lung cancer risk factors including smoking, secondhand smoke, tobacco leaf intake, age, gender, family history, chronic lung diseases, radiotherapy in the chest area, diet, obesity, physical activity, alcohol consumption, occupation, education, and income. Descriptive statistics and testing of hypotheses were used for the analysis using SPSS software (version 20). Results: According to this study, lung cancer was more prevalent in males than females. Smoking was the highest risk factor (OR=9.707; RR=3.924; sensitivity=0.8872 and P<0.0001) followed by previous lung disease (asthma, tuberculosis etc.) (OR=7.095; RR=1.508; sensitivity=0.316 and P<0.0001)) for male patients. Highly cooked food (OR=2.485; RR=1.126; sensitivity=0.418 and P=0.004)) and also genetic inheritance (OR=1.93; RR=1.335; sensitivity=0.163 and P=0.138) demonstrated significant correlation with lung cancer as risk factors after these two and alcohol consumption was not prevalent. On the other hand, for female patients, tobacco leaf intake represented the highest risk (OR=2.00; RR=1.429; sensitivity= 0.667 and P=0.5603) while genetic inheritance and highly cooked food also correlate with lung cancer but not so significantly. Socioeconomic status and education level also play important roles in causing lung cancer. Some 78.5% male and 83.3% of female cancer patients were rural residents, while 58.2% lived at the margin or below the poverty line. Most male (39.8%) and female (50.0%) patients had completed only primary level education, and 27.6% male and 33.3% female patients were illiterate. Smoking was found to be more prevalent among the less educated persons. Conclusions: The results obtained in this study indicate the importance of creating awareness about lung cancer risk factors among Bangladeshi people and making appropriate access to health services for the illiterate, poor, rural people.

Fair Competition: The Concept of Regulation in the Sharing Economy

Mukti FAJAR 한국유통과학회 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.11

A free-market economic system supported by the progress of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 has given birth to a sharing economy with a disruptive business model. In many ways, this business model is more effective, efficient, and makes it easy for businesses and consumers. However, because disruptive innovation is not asymmetrical with the conventional business that sustains innovation, several regulatory issues arise because it is fundamentally very different and cannot be regulated by standard law. Disruptive innovation may create chaos if it is regulated by norms that are used to regulate conventional business. This research was conducted with a normative method, which examines various theories, principles, laws and regulations to get justification for how the law should govern. The findings of this study are: competition law must be designed pragmatically so that it can keep pace with changes in business models that are rapidly changing. For this reason, it is necessary to shift regulatory authority from the Government to business people to make self-regulation, as a rule, that was born from the agreement of the business actors themselves. Self-regulation is considered more effective in maintaining fair competition, so that the market will be more dynamic, and consumers will be more prosperous.

Assessment of geostatistical methods for spatiotemporal analysis of drought patterns in East Texas, USA

        Mukti Ram Subedi,Weimin Xi,Christopher B. Edgar,Sandra Rideout-Hanzak,Brent C. Hedquist 대한공간정보학회 2019 Spatial Information Research Vol.27 No.1

Drought is one of the most complex and least understood climate-related natural hazards. Active drought mitigation and contingency plan formulation often require a reliable drought distribution map. This study analyzed different spatial interpolation techniques to produce drought distribution map in East Texas, USA. Deterministic [inverse distance weighting (IDW) and spline], and geostatistical [ordinary kriging (Gaussian (KG) and spherical (KS))] interpolation techniques were employed as candidate methods for evaluation. Thirty-four years (1980–2013) of weather station data (N = 47) were used to calculate a 12-month Standardized Precipitation Evaporation Index (SPEI). The dataset was randomly divided into test data (70%, N = 33) and validation data (30%, N = 14). The resulting SPEI maps were cross-checked and validated through a validation dataset by calculating error matrices. The results indicate that KG tends to perform well in relatively drier conditions while IDW shows mixed results, performing well both in dry and wet conditions. The overall power of the four techniques to map 12-month drought conditions resulted in the order of IDW[KG[KS[spline.

Political Economy of Regional Trading Arrangements in South Asia

        ( Hemanta K. Shrestha ),( Mukti P. Upadhyay ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2004 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.19 No.3

We examine how the factors conventionally found important for trade in other regions of the world influence trade in South Asia. Our gravity model starts by estimating the effects of economic variables such as per capita income and the size of economies on bilateral trade. We then use a novel dataset by extending the model to evaluate the role of non-economic factors such as geography, political cooperation and cultural similarity among nations. We find that the positive effects of incomes and cultural similarity on trade are largely neutralized by adverse political developments that repress trade within the region.

Optimum Hybrid SVPWM Technique for Three-level Inverter on the Basis of Minimum RMS Flux Ripple

        Meenu D. Nair,Jayanta Biswas,G. Vivek,Mukti Barai 전력전자학회 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.2

This paper presents an optimum hybrid SVPWM technique for three-level voltage source inverters (VSIs). The proposed hybrid SVPWM technique aims to minimize total harmonic distortion (THD). A new parameter is introduced to incorporate the heterogeneous nature of switching sequences of SVPWM technique. The proposed hybrid SVPWM technique is implemented on a low-cost PIC microcontroller (PIC18F452) and verified experimentally with a 2 KVA three-phase three-level insulated gate bipolar transistor-based VSI. Optimum switching sequence results in the three-level inverter configuration are demonstrated. The proposed hybrid SVPWM technique improves the THD performance by 17.3% compared with the best available three-level SVPWM technique.

Performance Evaluation of Various Bus Clamped Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation Techniques

        Meenu D. Nair,Jayanta Biswas,G. Vivek,Mukti Barai 전력전자학회 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.5

The space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique is a popular PWM method for medium voltage drive applications. Conventional SVPWM (CSVPWM) and bus clamped SVPWM (BCSVPWM) are the most common SVPWM techniques. This paper evaluates the performance of various advanced BCSVPWM strategies in terms of their harmonic distortion and switching loss based on a uniform frame work. A uniform frame work, pulse number captures the performance parameter variations of different SVPWM strategies for various number of samples with heterogeneous pulse numbers. This work compares different advanced BCSVPWM techniques based on the modulation index and location of the clamping position (zero vector changing angle ) of a phase in a line cycle. The frame work provides a fixed fundamental frequency of 50Hz. The different BCSVPWM switching strategies are implemented and compared experimentally on a 415V, 2.2kW, 50Hz, 3-phase induction motor drive which is fed from an IGBT based 2 KVA voltage source inverter (VSI) with a DC bus voltage of 400 V. A low cost PIC microcontroller (PIC18F452) is used as the controller platform.

Comparative Study of Minimum Ripple Switching Loss PWM Hybrid Sequences for Two-level VSI Drives

        G. Vivek,Jayanta Biswas,Meenu D. Nair,Mukti Barai 전력전자학회 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.6

Voltage source inverters (VSIs) are widely used to drive induction motors in industry applications. The quality of output waveforms depends on the switching sequences used in pulse width modulation (PWM). In this work, all existing optimal space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) switching strategies are studied. The performance of existing SVPWM switching strategies is optimized to realize a tradeoff between quality of output waveforms and switching losses. This study generalizes the existing optimal switching sequences for total harmonic distortions (THDs) and switching losses for different modulation indexes and reference angles with a parameter called quality factor. This factor provides a common platform in which the THDs and switching losses of different SVPWM techniques can be compared. The optimal spatial distribution of each sequence is derived on the basis of the quality factor to minimize harmonic current distortions and switching losses in a sector; the result is the minimum ripple loss SVPWM (MRSLPWM). By employing the sequences from optimized switching maps, the proposed method can simultaneously reduce THDs and switching losses. Two hybrid SVPWM techniques are proposed to reduce line current distortions and switching losses in motor drives. The proposed hybrid SVPWM strategies are MRSLPWM 30 and MRSLPWM 90. With a low-cost PIC microcontroller (PIC18F452), the proposed hybrid SVPWM techniques and the quality of output waveforms are experimentally validated on a 2 kVA VSI based on a three-phase two-level insulated gate bipolar transistor.
