      • A Study on the Establishment of Destination Image through Mass Media

        As the products of mass media, such as drama, movies, and commercial advertisements have grown and entertained us, they induced people to visit the locations where they were filmed. However, little has been known what effects in movies or television-induced locations on tourism. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the products of mass media on tourism through locations induced by dramas, movies, and commercial advertisements. More specially, this study examined the relationships between the perceptions of movies or television-induced affective response, the perceptions of movies or television-induced attributes and movies or television-induced destination images on tourism. Findings suggest that if audiences enjoy delightful movies, they will feel destination images with fun and delightfulness when they visit the location scene. Also, the results suggest that if dramas and movies gain in public favor, the location where they are filmed will become a new and fantastic destination to people.

        근막 결손의 복원과 자궁천골인대 고정을 통한 전자궁적출술 후 질탈출의 성공적 교정

        목적 : 본 연구는 전자궁적출술 후 질탈출을 부위-특이적인 결함의 개념에 입각하여 치골경부 근막과 직장질 격막의 연결을 통한 골반내 근막의 복원과 자궁천골인대 고정술을 이용한 질탈출의 성공적인 수술적 교정의 방법과 결과를 보고하고자 한다. 연구 방법 : 1999년부터 2001년 8월까지 자궁적출술 후 질궁탈출 증상으로 문화병원 산부인과를 내원, 탈출된 질의 근막을 재건시킨 다음, 이를 자궁천골인대에 고정시킴으로써 질의 부위-특이적인 교정술을 받은 3명의 환자를 대상으로 하였다. 3명중 1명은 개복술을 하였고 2명은 내시경 수술을 하였다. 결과 : 환자의 연령 분포는 49-67세였으며, 수술시간은 평균 113분 (105-125)이었다. 세 환자 모두 수술 후 질의 상태가 해부학 및 기능적으로 정상이었으며, 9일째 특이사항 없이 퇴원하였다. 수술 후 HRT를 시행한 1명을 포함한 3명 모두 각각 24개월, 12개월, 7개월간의 추적 검사에서도 특이한 합병증이나 재발 없이 좋은 경과를 보였다. 결론 : 골반 근막 결손의 복원과 자궁천골인대 고정술은 전자궁적출술 후 질탈출의 교정에 매우 안전하고 효과적이며, 기능적인 방법으로 사료되며, 자궁천골인대를 질탈출 교정에 이용한 연구는 본 연구가 국내에서 처음이다. Objective : To report the method and efficacy of the site specific-defects repair in the endopelvic fascia and uterosacral ligament suspension for the correction of posthysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse. Methods : This study was performed in 3 patients with posthyterectomy vaginal vault prolapse who underwent the surgery for the reconstruction of endopelvic fascia and the correction of vault prolapsed vagina by using uterosacral ligament suspension at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Moon-Hwa Hospital. Among them, 1 patient was treated by laparotomy, and 2 patients were treated by laparoscope. Results : The age of patients ranged from 49 to 67 years. The mean operation time was 111 minutes (105-120 minutes). The status of postoperative vagina was normal in all 3 patients, who were discharged 9 days after operation without symptoms. No complication or recurrence were found in them despite long-term follow-up for 24 months, 12 months, 7 months, respectively after operation. One patient has been treated with HRT therapy. Conclusion : The reconstruction of the defect of endopelvic fascia and uterosacral ligament fixation may be very safe, effective, and functional in the correction of vaginal vault prolapse. This study reports the treatment of vaginal vault prolapse using uterosacral ligament within Korea for the first time.

      • Oxidative Stress-Mediated Apoptosis in Neuronal SK-N-MC cells After Stimulation with 2,2',5,5'-Tetrachlorobiphenyl

        Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are widespread environmental contaminants and have become distributed throughout the entire ecosystem. Human populations have been exposed to these chemicals by both chronic and acute exposures, Apoptosis is a programmed cell death mechanism to control cell number in tissue and to eliminate individual cells that may lead to disease states. The present study was designed to investigate whether 2,2´,5,5´-Tetrachlorobiphenyl increase the production of active oxidants, and subsequently promotes apoptosis of neuronal SK-N-MC cells. Upon treatments with 2,2´,5,5´-Tetrachlorobiphenyl, the time- and concentration-dependent inhibition of cell viability were observed. The capability of 2,2´,5,5´-Tetrachlorobiphenyl to induce apoptosis was associated with proteolytic cleavage of specific target proteins such as poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase and beta-catenin proteins suggesting the possible involvement of caspases. This study examined the association of PCB-induced apoptosis with the modulation of biomakers of oxidative damage to lipids (malondialdehyde [MDA]) in SK-N-MC cells treated with 2,2,5,5-Tetrachlorobiphenyl (5, 10, 15, 20㎍/㎖) for 12 and 24hrs. Increased MDA was observed in cytosol treated with 10, 15, 20/㎍/㎖ for 12 hrs and in media treated with 10, 15, 20㎍/㎖ for 24 hrs. The activities of antioxidant enzymes, catalase, Cuzn--Superoxide Dismutase, and Glutathione S-Transferase, were also examined.

      • Highly Tunable Charge Transport in Layer-by-Layer Assembled Graphene Transistors

        <P>We demonstrate a controlled, systematic method to tune the charge transport in graphene field-effect transistors based on alternating layer-by-layer assembly of positively and negatively charged graphene oxide followed by thermal reduction. Surprisingly, tuning the number of bilayers of thermally reduced graphene oxide multilayer films allowed achieving either ambipolar or unipolar (both n- and p-type) transport In graphene transistors. On the basis of X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, and temperature-dependent charge transport measurements, we found that nitrogen atoms from the functional groups of positively charged graphene oxide are incorporated Into the reduced graphene oxide films and substitute carbon atoms during the thermal reduction. This nitrogen-doping process occurs in different degrees for graphene multilayers with varying numbers of bilayers and thereby results in the interesting transition in the electrical behavior In graphene multilayer transistors. We believe that such a versatile method to control the charge transport in graphene muttilayers will further promote their applications in solution-processable electronic devices based on graphene.</P>

        Extent of resection for T2N0 gallbladder carcinoma regarding concurrent extrahepatic bile duct resection

        Backgrounds/Aims: Gallbladder carcinoma (GBCa) T2 lesions are considered to be advanced tumors showing diverse features in tumor extent. When this T2 lesion does not involve the cystic duct and there is no evidence of lymph node metastasis, we have to consider what is the most reasonable extent of resection - that is, whether to perform concurrent extra-hepatic bile duct resection (EHBD) resection or not. This study intends to evaluate the adequacy of EHBD resection in patients undergoing resection for T2N0 GBCa. Methods: From our institutional database of GBCa, 48 cases of T2N0 GBCa who underwent R0 resection during November 1995 and August 2008 were selected. Patients who underwent prior laparoscopic cholecystectomy were excluded. Their medical records were reviewed retrospectively. Results: Their mean age was 63.2±83.3 years and females were 25. The mean serum CA19-9 level was 37.3±89.3 ng/ml. The extents of liver resection were wedge resection (n=36) and segment 4a+5 resection (n=12). Concurrent EHBD resection was performed in 16 (33.3%) patients. No fatal surgical complication occurred. The majority of tumor pathology was adenocarcinoma (n=42), with additional unusual types as papillary (n=3), saromatoid (n=1), signet ring cell (n=1) and adenosquamous (n=1) cancers. The overall survival rate was 87.1% at 1 year, 69.5% at 3 years and 61.7% at 5 years. After exclusion of mortalities not related to cancer, the overall patient survival rate was 89.6% at 1 year, 72.9% at 3 years and 64.7% at 5 years, with 3-year survival rates of 72% in the EHBD resection group and 69.2% in the non-resection group (p=0.661). Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that concurrent EHBD resection did not improve patient survival when R0 resection was achieved in patients with T2N0 GBCa. Therefore, routine EHBD resection may not be indicated for T2N0 GBCa unless the tumor is close to the cystic duct. (Korean J Hepatobiliary Pancreat Surg 2012;16:142-146)

        Evaluation of QTL Related SSR Marker Universality in Korean Rice Breeding Populations

        If a quantitative trait loci (QTL) marker identified in a population is applicable to different populations (marker universality), this will not only reduce the labor and cost in marker assisted selection (MAS), but accelerate the application of molecular markers to real breeding programs. Present study aims to evaluate the defined QTL related markers from a population to a different breeding population for the MAS. Four rice breeding populations were subjected to seventy-five simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers which were already identified for their polymorphism information content (PIC) in the parents of the crossings. Among them, eight markers were evaluated for their correlation between presence of marker alleles and phenotypic expression in breeding populations. A reasonable level of polymorphism for the mapped markers originated from any sources of rice accessions was observed between crosses of any sources (marker repeatability). However, correlation between presence of markers and expression of the traits in rice breeding populations was not significant except for minor portion of traits and markers examined (failure of marker universality). In the present study, various strategies were discussed to develop new markers with universality of breeding application.

      • 2,2',5,5'-Tetrachlorobiphenyl Mediates Oxidative Stress-Induced Neuronal Apoptosis in Neuronal SK-N-MC Cells

        Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants, some of which may be neurotoxic. The goal of this study was to determine if exposure to 2,2´,5,5´-Tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB 52) leads to an induction of oxidative stress, and subsequently promotes apoptosis of neuronal SK-N-MC cells. Upon treatments with PCB 52, the time- and concentration-dependent inhibitions of cell viability were observed. The capability of PCB 52 to induce apoptosis was associated with proteolytic cleavage of specific target proteins, poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase and -catenin, suggesting the possible involvement of caspases. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation was examined in SK-N-MC cells after treatment of PCB 52 by concentrations (5, 10, 15, and 20 μg/㎖) and incubation times (15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, and 120 min), respectively. It showed that the rate of ROS production in the cells was increased in a does-dependent manner to 45 min, followed by a return towards control levels after 120 min treatment, ROS formation was also measured in the presence of superoxide dismutase (inhibitor of oxygen free radical production) or mannitol (hydroxyl radical scavenger). Both the ROS scavengers exhibited significant inhibition effects of ROS generation in PCB 52-treated group, but mannitol had stronger scavenging effect of the ROS generated by PCB52 than superoxide dismutase had. We examined the association of PCB-induced apoptosis with the modulation of biomarkers of oxidative damage to lipids (malondialdehyde [MDA]) in SK-N-MC cells. Increased MDA was observed in cytosol treated with 10, 15, and 20 μg/㎖ of PCB 52 for 12 h. The activities of antioxidant enzymes, catalase, Cu/Zn-Superoxide Dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), were also examined. The neuronal cells showed a sustained increase in Cu/Zn-SOD activity with increasing concentrations of PCB 52. When treated with 10 μg/㎖ of PCB 52 for 24 h, the cells had a two-fold greater rate of change in catalase activity when compared to control group. These results suggest that PCB 52 induces

        Bending Strength of Korean Softwood Species for 120 × 180 mm Structural Members

        The goal of this study is to investigate bending properties of domestic timber. Three representative structural timber from Larix kaempferi, Pinus koraiensis, and Pinus densiflora, in the northeastern South Korea were selected. Visual grading for the timber was conducted based on KFRI notification 2009-01 and the bending strength for the timber was evaluated based on ASTM D 198 bending. The high percentage of grade 1 and 2 for Larix kaempferi shows that the KFRI notification was optimized for this species. The bending strength distributions from Pinus koraiensis and Pinus densflora were very similar. It could be possible to specify the allowable bending properties of these two Specification using a united species group similar to spruce-pine-fir. Lastly, the bending strength of 120 × 180 mm structural members was higher than both existing values in KBC 2009 and design values for timber of imported species described in the NDS. Thus, 120 mm thick domestic sofiwoods could replace the commercial imported species and the KBC should be modified to provide design values for both timber and dimensional lumber, respectively, like NDS.
