        Non-equal DC link Voltages in a Cascaded H-Bridge with a Selective Harmonic Mitigation-PWM Technique Based on the Fundamental Switching Frequency

        In this paper, the Selective Harmonic Mitigation-PWM (SHM-PWM) method is used in single-phase and three-phase Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverters in order to fulfill different power quality standards such as EN 50160, CIGRE WG 36-05, IEC 61000-3-6 and IEC 61000-2-12. Non-equal DC link voltages are used to increase the degrees of freedom for the proposed SHM-PWM technique. In addition, it will be shown that the obtained solutions become continuous and without sudden changes. As a result, the look-up tables can be significantly reduced. The proposed three-phase modulation method can mitigate up to the 50th harmonic from the output voltage, while each switch has just one switching in a fundamental period. In other words, the switching frequency of the power switches are limited to 50 Hz, which is the lowest switching frequency that can be achieved in the multilevel converters, when the optimal selective harmonic mitigation method is employed. In single-phase mode, the proposed method can successfully mitigate harmonics up to the 50th, where the switching frequency is 150 Hz. Finally, the validity of the proposed method is verified by simulations and experiments on a 9-level CHB inverter.

        A New Quantitative Predictability-Based Method of Risk Measurement to Make Profitable Investment Decisions in Financial Markets

        The ultimate goal of investment in financial markets is to achieve the maximum expected rate of return. Risk is one of the most important factors in making profitable investment decisions. Therefore, in the literature, many efforts have been made to define, model, and determine the effect of it in making financial decisions. The first and the most fundamental attempt to quantitatively model the risk and involve it in making investment decisions is related to Markowitz’s studies. The results of these studies, besides many financial applications, have been the basis for other riskbased studies. Such methods have been investors’ main instrument in developing profitable investment strategies. However, despite scientific and practical advantages, none of them consider the predictability of under-study systems. While the predictability logically has a non-strict inverse relationship with the risk. In this paper, a new method for measuring risk based on the predictability is presented to eliminate this disadvantage. In the proposed method, Markowitz methods have been developed by entering predictability. Accordingly, the proposed method, besides the advantages of Markowitz methods, enters predictability in risk measurement. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method in risk measurement and investment decisions, in comparison to other methods, data from twenty companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange were used. The empirical results indicate the efficiency of the proposed method to make financial decisions in comparison with other methods.

        The Association between Social Support and Happiness among Elderly in Iran

        Background: Elderly people’s life is affected by multiple factors including social support, which is of the utmost importance. This study aimed to explore the association between social support and happiness as well as the impactof types of social support on happiness among elders. Methods: This descriptive and analytical study was carried out on 411 elderly men and women referred to the retirement,cultural, and rehabilitation centers in Hamadan, west of Iran. Participants were selected by a multi-stagerandom sampling method. The research instrument included a questionnaire consisting of three parts: demographicinformation, the Oxford Argyle Happiness Inventory, and a Questionnaire derived from Social SupportTheory. The questionnaire was completed through a self-report study. The collected data were analyzed usingPearson correlation coefficients, multiple linear regression, independent t-tests, and one-way analysis of variancein IBM SPSS Software ver. 22.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Results: The mean for happiness was reported as 41.17±15.2. The values given for social support were 29.40±11.95and for its dimensions were 7.53±3.89 and 13.70±4.90 for informational support and emotional support, respectively. Moreover, the mean value for appraisal support was 3.48±2.37 and was 4.70±2.56 for instrumental support. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that social support and demographic variables could account for approximately25% (R2=0.25) of changes in the variable of happiness. Conclusion: High social support could increase happiness among elders. The quality and quantity of social supportcan be taken into account as proper determinants and predictors of happiness among elders.

        Development and Psychometric Properties of an Extended Theory of Planned Behavior Questionnaire for Childbearing Intentions and Behaviors in Iran

        Background: Childbearing is the most important determinant of population fluctuations, and its study is more im-portant than other population phenomena. Owing to the lack of a valid questionnaire based on the extended theo-ry of planned behavior, this mixed-method study was conducted to determine the validity and reliability of a ques-tionnaire designed to examine related belief-based factors on the intention to bear children in Iranian society.Methods: This study was conducted in two phases in Hamadan city, western Iran, in 2021. Phase 1 consisted of an extensive literature review and a qualitative study using a directed content analysis approach to generate an item pool. Psychometrics were measured in phase 2, including content, face, and construct validity. Reliability was as-sessed based on internal consistency and stability. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS and AMOS ver. 24.0.Results: Mean content validity ratio and content validity index were 0.7 and 0.85, respectively. Exploratory factor analysis of the 32 items identified an eight-factor solution. These factors jointly accounted for 79.1% of the observed variance in the outcome variables. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good fit for the data. The internal con-sistency based on Cronbach’s α was 0.85 (0.71–0.93). In addition, stability was confirmed using the test-retest method and intraclass correlation coefficient (0.74–0.94).Conclusion: The designed questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating related belief-based fac-tors on the intention and behavior of childbearing among married men and women in Iran.

        Crystal Structure and Characterization of a New Eight Coordinated Cadmium Complex

        In this work, a new cadmium complex $[Cd(L)(CH_3COO)_2].2H_2O$ (1) with the ligand L, N,N'-bis(2-pyridinecarboxalidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine was prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cadmium atom in the crystal structure of 1 has distorted triangular dodecahedral geometry by coordination of the four nitrogen atoms of L and four oxygen atoms of the two acetate ions. Two water molecules are also incorporated in the crystal network. The $O-H{\cdots}O$ hydrogen bonds present in the crystal structure of 1. In this work, three structural surveys including coordination numbers of the cadmium atom, coordination modes of L and resonance in pyridine-2-ylmethanimine-based compounds are presented.

      • Evaluation of incorporating metakaolin to evaluate durability and mechanical properties of concrete

        Concrete is known to be the most used construction material worldwide. The environmental and economic aspects of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) containing concrete have led research studies to investigate the possibility of incorporating supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) in concrete. Metakaolin (MK) is one SCM with high pozzolanic reactivity generated throughout the thermal activation of high purity kaolinite clay at a temperature ranging from $500^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$. Although many studies have evaluated the effect of MK on mechanical properties of concrete and have reported positive effects, limited articles are considering the effect of MK on durability properties of concrete. Considering the lifetime assessment of concrete structures, the durability of concrete has become of particular interest recently. In the present work, the influences of MK on mechanical and durability properties of concrete mixtures are evaluated. Various experiments such as slump flow test, compressive strength, water permeability, freeze and thaw cycles, rapid chloride penetration and surface resistivity tests were carried out to determine mechanical and durability properties of concretes. Concretes made with the incorporation of MK revealed better mechanical and durability properties compared to control concretes due to combined pozzolanic reactivity and the filler effect of MK.

        Reaction and Theoretical Study of the Coordination of an N<sub>2</sub>O-Donor Amino Alcoholic Ligand Toward Group 12 Metals Mixtures

        A series of reactions between an amino alcoholic ligand, cis-2-((2-((2-hydroxyethyl)amino)ethyl)amino)cyclohexan-1-ol (HEAC), with the mixtures of group 12 metals including, $HgCl_2/CdCl_2$, $HgCl_2/CdI_2$, $ZnCl_2/CdCl_2$ and $ZnCl_2/CdCl_2/HgCl_2$ was experimentally and theoretically studied to determine the most stable product of these reactions. Furthermore, the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) studies were done to evaluate the theoretical results. The products were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Based on these investigations a binuclear structure of cadmium, [$Cd_2(HEAC)_2({\mu}-Cl)_2Cl_2$] (1), is the most stable product that was formed in all studied reactions between HEAC and metals mixtures. In this structure, the cadmium atom has a $CdN_2O({\mu}-Cl)_2Cl$ environment and distorted octahedral geometry.
