Development of preparation, effective tools for the child in hospital

In child nursing field, bring out the self-efficacy “preparation” has become an important care for the children to red uce their fear and anxiety before undergoing the medical inspection and treatment and help them to understand the de scription more clearly. Preparation has been done a lot in many places, yet the system, which includes common conte nt, can be shared has not been built. The object is to share the preparation tools and develop the effective tool for medical field. This time, as the first-st ep, we would like to develop a preparation tool that has collective rewards for children. Review the preparation content by expert committee and literature; we selected eight items such as hospitalization, blood sampling, infusion, surgery, hospital discharge etc. Which are the common preparations have to be done to the hospitalization children. From the 5 prototypes, which were made by designers, we have adopted petal type tools that can be folded, played by children and also collected as a reward medals. From July to August in 2013, we researched reviews of this preparation tool from 89 children patients and 69 guardians, 60 nurses in pediatric hospital. As the result, this preparation tool was favorably commented, the children were encouraged and they were happy to collect some rewards. At the free discussion, the subjects said they have enjoyed folding the petal type tool many times over and over, and this also encouraged the children to collect petals as their reward. From these favorable comments we confirmed our purpose has succeed. In the further study, we will customize the tools more sophisticated depending on the gender and developmental stage of the children and build a system that can be shared among the medical field.
