        Proximate Composition of Viscera of Major, Common and Some Chinese Carps Under the Effect of Different Fertilization Schemes and Feed Supplementation in Composite Culture System

        The proximate composition of viscera of six fish species viz., Catla catla, Labeo, rohita Cirrhina mrigala, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Cyprinus carpio under the influence of artificial feed $(T_1)$, broiler manure $(T_2)$, buffalo manure $(T_3)$, N:P:K (25:25:0 $T_4$) and control pond $(T_5)$ has been studied on final harvest after the end of experimental period of one year. The overall comparison of six fish species under five different treatments showed that Cyprinus carpio remained the best for visceral total protein contents. The maximum visceral protein content was recorded in fishes under $T_2$ except Cirrhina mrigala, while the minimum under $T_5$. The comparison of five treatments showed that maximum (6.69) percentage of fat in viscera of fish was recorded under $T_2$, closely followed by $T_4$ while minimum (4.89) under the effect of $T_5$. Among the six fish species under five treatments Cyprinus carpio showed maximum accumulation/deposition of total fats in viscera.

        Sodium titanate as an infrared reflective material for cool roof application

        A solid-state route was used to prepare sodium titanium oxide (NTO, Na2Ti3O7) as a solar heat protecting material with animpressive solar reflectance (TSR = 94.3%) using a high refractive index rutile TiO2. The solar reflectance of the synthesizedNTO was measured using UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. Solar reflectance property of the synthesized compound dependson the calcination temperature. The solar reflectance property of the synthesized NTO powder was compared with commercialrutile TiO2. The compound synthesized at 900 oC for 24 hrs had remarkable solar reflectance 94.3% than that calcined below900 °C. Crystalline nature, structural property, morphology and optical properties of NTO powders were characterized andanalyzed using XRD, FE-SEM, EDS and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. From the results, we guessed that NTO would bea suitable “solar heat protecting candidate” for energy-saving applications in coating industries.

        Biomass Conversion Efficiencies of Fish Pond Fertilization and Feed Supplementation

        Biomass conversion efficiencies (B.C.E) of six fish species viz, Catla catla, Labeo, rohita, Cirrhina mrigala, Hypophthalmicthys molitrix, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Cyprinus carpio cultured under artificial feed (T1), broiler manure (T2), buffalo manure (T3), N:P:K (25:25:0) (T4) and control pond (T5) have been determined for the period of one year. The overall biomass conversion efficiencies under the influence of T2, T3, and T4 were statistically similar. However, the best (0.40) efficiency was determined under feed supplement-ation (T1).

        Selection of factors influencing calving ease in Korean Holstein cattle

        Calving ease is an important reproductive trait in dairy production. We investigated the first five parities calving ease (CE) scores and various factors to identify their relationships with CE in Korean Holstein cows. We analyzed the 83,943, 69,120, 31,500, 29,003, and 9,361 records from parity 1 through 5 provided by Dairy Cattle Improvement Center (DCIC), Korea. The categorical CE scores (1 to 5) were also linearly transformed via the snell procedure and analyzed alongside actual scores. A generalized linear model or GLM analysis was performed in the R software package to estimate the significance of predictor variables. The complete models included the fixed effects of calf sex (SEX), calf size (SIZE), gestation length group (GLEN), dam calving age (DAGE), calving year (YR), calving season (SEA), and calving herd (HERD). Both actual and linear-transformed phenotypes were fitted separately for individual parity datasets. CE rates differed across parity. Male calves tend to have larger body sizes and longer gestation periods. As a result, males were also more inclined to extreme CE. However, longer gestation lengths, irrespective of sex, were also associated with greater CE. The GLM analysis showed that the effect of HERD, SIZE and YR are significant across parities (P<0.05). However, the SEX effect was only non-significant at parity 3, whereas GLEN was significant only up to parity 3. The season effect was mostly non-significant at P<0.05. The DAGE effect was removed by stepwise regression for all datasets. The stepwise regression also retained similar factors for the best-fit models. However, despite some minor variations in model parameter estimates, the identified predictor variables were identical across actual and modified scores. It also indicates the possible use of similar independent variables for any genetic evaluation, regardless of CE datatype. This is the first in depth study on factors of CE in Korean Holstein. We, therefore, believe these findings on significant predictors could greatly assist in designing future genetic evaluations for calving difficulty.

        Regression Studies of Dry Weight of Planktonic Biomass on Physico-chemical Parameters of Ponds with Special Reference to Fertilization

        The regression equations of dry weight of planktonic biomass upon physico-chemical characteristics of fifteen ponds in three replicates under the influence of artificial feed, broiler manure, buffalo manure, N:P:K (25:25:0) and a control pond was obtained after one year of experimental period by using stepwise regression method. Water samples from each of the ponds were analyzed daily. However, the average values were calculated on the basis of 15 day intervals designated as fortnight. In artificial feed supplemented pond the regression of average nitrates on dry weight of planktonic biomass accounted for 71.7% of the variation in biomass. In broiler manure fertilization pond the regression of total nitrogen on dry weight of planktonic biomass held it responsible for more than 74.6% of variation in biomass. In buffalo's manure fertilized pond more than 82% of the variations in biomass were due to total nitrogen. In case of N:P:K (25:25:0) treated pond 66% of the variation in the dry weight of planktonic biomass was due to average nitrates. The control pond showed the dependence of biomass on light penetration. This equation explained more than 62 percent of variation in biomass. Other variables also showed some contribution towards variation in biomass under all the treatments in these regression studies.

        Association between Angiotensin I - Converting Enzyme Gene Polymorphism and Hypertension in Selected Individuals of the Bangladeshi Population

        The genetic factors that contribute to the development of coronary artery disease (CAD) are poorly understood. It is likely that multiple genes that act independently or synergistically contribute to the development of CAD and the outcome. Recently, an insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism of the human angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) gene, a major component of the reninangiotensin system (RAS), was identified. The association of the ACE gene D allele with essential hypertension and CAD has been reported in the African-American, Chinese, and Japanese populations. However, other studies have failed to detect such an association. It has been suggested that these inconsistencies may be due to the difference in backgrounds of the population characteristics. In the present study, we investigated the I/D polymorphism of the ACE gene in 103 subjects of both sexes, consisting of 59 normal controls and 44 patients with hypertension. The allele and genotype frequency were significantly different between the hypertensive and control groups (p < 0.01). Among the three ACE I/D variants, the DD genotype was associated with the highest value of the mean systolic blood pressure [SBP] and mean diastolic blood pressure [DBP] (p = < 0.05) in men, but not in women. In the overall population, the mean SBP and DBP was highest in DD subjects, intermediate in I/D subjects, and the least in II subjects.

        EMG-based 3D hand gesture prediction using transformer–encoder classification

        One of the most common task of electromyography (EMG)-based human–machine interface (HMI) is the hand gesture recognition. Robust and accurate predictions leveraging the surface EMG (sEMG) is a key challenge. In this paper, we present a 3D hand gesture prediction application, leveraging the sEMG signal and the optical hand tracking information. A transformer–encoder classifier (TEC) module is introduced in an IPC-system to predict the 3D-hand gestures using eight monopolar channels from sEMG as input. An experimental testbed is setup to acquire, train, and predict the 3D hand gestures within a feasible range of performance. The performance has been evaluated in terms of percentage of correctly classified keypoints (PCK). PCK is measured by first estimating the euclidean distance between the actual and the predicted keypoints. The percentage of keypoints within a threshold distance value are then calculated. Results from the ablation study indicate that the proposed scheme shows a percentage of correctly classified keypoints of up to 72.8%, 92.7%, 97.2%, and 98.6% with a PCK threshold of 5 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm, respectively.

        Relationships among Gonad Weight, Liver Weight and Body Weight of Major, Common and Some Chinese Carps under Composite Culture System with Special Reference to Pond Fertilization

        The relationship of gonad weight and liver weight with body weight of six fish species viz; Catla catla, Labeo rohita, Cirrhina mrigala, Hypophthlamichthys molitrix, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Cyprinus carpio under the influence of artificial feed, broiler manure, buffalo manure, N:P:K (25:25:0) and a control pond were examined after a rearing period of one year. The positive relationship between gonad weight and body weight was significant which showed the dependence of gonadal development on body weight in all the six fish species. The currelation coefficients were higher in female fishes. However, the major carps had a much smaller proportional gonadal weight as compared with Chinese carps and a common carp due to their faster growth rate. The overall comparison of six fish species under different experimental treatments revealed that highest liver weight was observed for C. idella closely followed by C. carpio. The maximum correlation value was observed with H. molitrix under the broiler manure. The maximum Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) remained as 32.63 for C. carpio followed by C. idella. The maximum value for Hepatosomatic Index (HSI). remained 1.99 for C. idella followed by C. mrigala.

      • A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN BANGLADESHI AND KOREAN LEGAL FRAMEWORKS FOR COMBATING CYBERCRIME TO ENSURE CYBER SECURITY

        The skyrocketing proliferation of internet based activities triggers rapid growth of cybercrimes worldwide. Bangladesh, the most densely populated country in the world having 48.37 million internet users,1 tops list of countries under mobile malware and off line attacks.2 On the other hand the Republic of Korea (ROK) with almost one third population of Bangladesh is more vulnerable to cyberattack and cybercrime due to its tremendous expansion of e-commerce and m-commerce. In this article a comparative analysis has been made between major laws of Bangladesh and Korea that deal with cybercrimes and specific recommendations have been made to improve the legal and Institutional Frameworks of Bangladesh as well as that of ROK on specific findings of the study. Particular attention is given on investigation, prosecution and trial of cybercrimes and laws have been examined in the light of the UNDOC Comprehensive Study on Cybercrime, 2013 and the Convention on Cybercrime, 2001. The Article explores answers of questions such as how efficient the Korean legal regime is in dealing with the cybercrime to ensure cybersecurity in Korea. How Bangladesh may adopt an adequate legal framework to protect its cyberspace from cybercrime? How the Judiciary of Bangladesh may effectively resolve the cases of cybercrime and last but not the least how the draft Cybercrime Act and E-Service Law of Bangladesh may resolve the issues like effective investigation of cybercrime, incorporate a sound definition of cybercrime and provide an effective mechanism of trying cybercrimes in the light of Korean experience.

        Using Growth and Ionic Contents of Wheat Seedlings as Rapid Screening Tool for Salt Tolerance

        High germination percentage with vigorous early growth is preferred for harvesting good wheat stand under saline soils. Therefore, an attempt for rapid screening of wheat genotypes for salt tolerance was made in this study. Eleven wheat genotypes including salt tolerant check Kiran-95were subjected to salinity (120 and 160 mMNaCl) along with non-saline,control. Results showed a gradual decrease in seed germination and restricted seedling growth in tested wheat genotypes inㅡresponse to increasing NaCl concentration in nutrient solution. Among the genotypes, NIA-AS-14-6 and NIA-AS-14-7 exhibited more sensitivity towards the salt stress at the germination stage but NIA-AS-14-6 performed quite satisfactorily later on at the seedling stage. Wheat genotypes NIA-AS-14-2, NIA-AS-14-4, NIA-AS-14-5, NIA-AS-14-10, and Kiran-95 showed better performance in term of root-shoot length, plant biomasses (fresh and dry), K+:Na+ ratio with least Na+ content, and high accumulation of K+ at higher levels of NaCl stress. On the basis of overall results, the categorization of genotypes was carried out as sensitive, moderately tolerant, and tolerant. Wheat genotypes NIA-AS-14-2, NIA-AS-14-4, NIA-AS-14-5, NIA-AS-14-10, and Kiran-95 grouped as tolerant, moderately salt tolerant group comprised of NIA-AS-14-1, NIA-AS-14-3, NIA-AS-14-6, and NIA-AS-14-8, whereas, NIA-AS-14-7 and NIA-AS-14-9 were found sensitive to salt stress. Principal component analysis revealed that components I and II contributed 70 and 16.5%, respectively. All growth parameters are associated with each other except RDW. In addition to growth traits, low Na+ and improved K+ content with better K+:Na+ ratio may be used for screening of salt tolerance in wheat as potential physiological criteria.
