      • SINGLE-PHASE CURRENT SOURCE INVERTER WITH PULSE AREA MODULATION SCHEME FOR SOLAR POWER CONDITIONER

        In general, a singte-phase current-fed PWM inverter using IGBTs has some unique advantages for small scale distributed utility-interactive power supply system as compared with voltage-fed PWM inverter. In particular, this is more suitable and acceptable for a non-isolated type utility-interactive power conditioner, which is going to be widely used for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system in Japan However, this current-fed PWM inverter has a significant disadvantage. The output current of this inverter includes large harmonic contents when the inductance of smoothing reactor in its DC side is not large enough to eliminate its current ripple components of this inverter In order to overcome this problem, a new conceptual pulse area modulation scheme for this inverter is introduced in difference with conventional PWM strategy. This paper presents a new effective control implementation of this PV power conditioner which is able to reduce the harmonic component in the output current produced by the single-phase current-fed PWM inverter even when the npple current in the smoothing DC reactor is relatively large. The operating principle of the proposed control strategy introdued for this inverter system is described, and its simulation results are evaluated and discussed herein.<br/>

      • Pulse Width and Pulse Frequency Modulated Soft Commutation Inverter Type AC-DC Power Converter with Lowered Utility 200V AC Grid Side Harmonic Current Components

        The grid voltage of commercial utility power source in Japan and USA is l00rms, but in China and European countries, it is 200rms. In recent years, in Japan 2G0Vrms out putted single phase three wire system begins to be used for high power applications. In l00Vrms utility AC power applications and systems, an active voltage clamped quasi-resonant inverter circuit topology using IGBTs has been effectively used so far for the consumer microwave oven. In this paper, presented is a half bridge type voltage-clamped high-frequency inverter type AC-DC converter using which is designed for consumer magnetron drive used as the consumer microwave oven in 200V utility AC power system. This zero voltage soft switching inverter can use the same power rated switching semiconductor devices and three-winding high frequency transformer as those of the active voltage clamped quasi-resonant inverter using the IGBTs that has already been used for 100V utility AC power source. The operating performances of the voltage source single ended push pull type inverter are evaluated and discussed for consumer microwave oven. The harmonic line current components in the utility AC power side of the AC-DC power converter operating at ZVS-PWM strategy reduced and improved on the basis of sine wave like pulse frequency modulation and sine wave like pulse width modulation for the utility AC voltage source.<br/> Index Terms; Zero Voltage Soft Switching Inverter, High Voltage Transformer, Voltage Doubter, Non smoothing LC Filter, New Pulse Pattern Modulation.<br/>

      • Lossless Inductor Snubber-Assisted ZCS-PFM High Frequency Series Resonant Inverter for Eddy Current-Heated Roller

        This paper presents a novel prototype of ZCS-PFM high frequency series resonant inverter using IGBT power module for electromagnetic induction eddy current-heated roller in copy and printing machines. The operating principle and unique features of this voltage source half bridge inverter with (wo additional soft commutation inductor snubber are presented including the transformer modeling of induction heated rolling drum. This soft switching inverter can achieve stable zero current soft commutation under a discontinuous and continuous resonant load current for a widely specified power regulation processing. The experimental results and computer-aided analysis of this inverter are discussed from a practical point of view.<br/>

      • Characteristic Analysis of Integrated Magnetic Component for Forward Converter

        A power converter is required to be compact, lightweight and low loss, and the various approaches have thus been carried out so far. For a forward converters (FC) used for step-down of medium-capacity, many papers that aims at its miniaturization by coupling the isolation transformers and the output reactors have been reported. Each method of the integrated magnetic components (IMC) shows that the position of the windings and the gaps are different and the total volume becomes smaller than that before coupling. However, it is not clear which method should be adopted to obtain the desired performance and what kind of characteristics it can judge from. Therefore, we classified the FC’s IMC from the way of the coupling and investigate the operation of the FC depending on the winding of the IMC in this paper. As results from simulation and experimental analysis, the winding position suitable for the FC, the way of reducing the volume of the magnetic component and suppressing the ripple of the input/output current became clear.
