This paper presents the analysis of the analysis of thrust characteristics of linear induction motors(LIMs) according to secondary reaction plate. LIMs are well known as high speed transport systems, which can obtain thrust directly without gears and links, or auxiliary mechanisms. A simple structure, easy maintenance, and less environmental pollution are advantages of LIMs. In transport systems using LIMs, the secondary reaction plate is an important design factor, because it has considerable impact on the cost of the railway as well as the performance of the LIMs. This paper deals analyzed the characteristics of linear induction motor used for moving the vehicle of container scanner. Thrust, efficiency and load characteristic were interpreted with FEM regarding two models whose material of secondary reaction plate was copper and aluminum. It suggested the interpretation of thrust, efficiency and power factor characteristic along slip and compared the operation ability of linear induction motor through characteristics analysis along the load.

<P>Obesity has become a major health threat in developed countries. However, current medications for obesity are limited because of their adverse effects. Interest in natural products for the treatment of obesity is thus rapidly growing. Korean Medicine (KM) is characterized by the wide use of herbal formulas. However, the combination rule of herbal formulas in KM lacks experimental evidence. According to <I>Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica</I>, the earliest book of herbal medicine, <I>Veratrum nigrum</I> (VN) has antagonistic features against <I>Panax ginseng</I> (PG), and the PG-VN pair is strictly forbidden. In this study, we have shown the effects of PG, VN, and their combination on obesity in high-fat (HF) diet-induced obese mice and in 3T3-L1 cells. PG, VN, and PG-VN combination significantly reduced weight gain and the fat pad weight in HF diet-induced obese mice. They also significantly decreased lipid accumulation and the expressions of two major adipogenesis factors, PPAR<I><I>γ</I></I> and C/EBP<I><I>α</I></I>, in 3T3-L1 cells. In addition, the PG-VN combination had synergistic effects compared with the mixture of extracts of PG and VN on inhibition of PPAR<I><I>γ</I></I> and C/EBP<I><I>α</I></I> expressions at lower doses. These results indicate a new potential anti-obese pharmacotherapy and also provide scientific evidence supporting the usage of herbal combinations instead of mixtures in KM.</P>

<P>Since the hybrid superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) to solve the problems such as the larger volume of the superconducting components and the slow recovery time after the fault is removed has been developed, the plans to apply the hybrid SFCL into the real electrical power grid have been reported. Especially, the discussion for the protection coordination between the existing protective devices due to the introduction of the hybrid SFCL is more required together with the review from the whole viewpoint of the power system. In this paper, the experimental devices to simulate the operation of the hybrid SFCL as well as the protection coordination between the protective devices such as the over-current relay (OCR) were constructed and the protection coordination of the hybrid SFCL with the protective devices was analysed through the experiments. Through the analysis on the experimental results, among the various components comprising the hybrid SFCL, the current limiting resistor (CLR) was confirmed to affect the protection coordination between the OCR and the hybrid SFCL and the method to keep the protection coordination between the hybrid SFCL and the protective devices was discussed.</P>

In <I>Drosophila</I>, Dicer-2 (Dcr-2) functions in the biogenesis of endogenous small interfering RNAs (endo-siRNAs). We identified 21 distinct proteins that exhibited a ⩾1.5-fold change as a consequence of loss of <I>dcr-2</I> function. Most of these were metabolic genes implicated in stress resistance and aging. <I>dcr-2</I> Mutants had reduced lifespan and were hypersensitive to oxidative, endoplasmic reticulum, starvation, and cold stresses. Furthermore, loss of <I>dcr-2</I> function led to abnormal lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. Our results suggest roles for the endo-siRNA pathway in metabolic regulation and defense against stress and aging in <I>Drosophila</I>.</P>
Chordomas Involving Multiple Neuraxial Bones
Lim, Jae-Joon,Kim, Sang-Hyun,Cho, Ki-Hong,Yoon, Do-Heum,Kim, Se-Hoon The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2009 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.45 No.1
We present a patient with multifocal symptomatic osseous chordomas having unusual growth patterns with review of the pertinent literature. The patient was 62-year-old male and had multiple osseous chordomas located in sacral, thoracic, and paraclival jugular foramen areas. There was no metastasis in other organs. All affected sites were osseous. The multicentric chordomas are extremely rare. This case could be considered as a chordoma involving multiple neuraxial bones. But, the possibility of multicentricity could also be thought. In such cases radical resection should be performed for each lesion at the initial diagnosis. If complete surgical resections are infeasible or impossible, preoperative or postoperative radiation therapy should be planned for the highest possibility of successful treatment.

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P>Formate-dependent proton reduction to H2(HCOO−+ H2O → HCO3−+ H2) has been reported for hyperthermophilicThermococcusstrains. In this study, a hyperthermophilic archaeon,Thermococcus onnurineusstrain NA1, yielded H2accumulation to a partial pressure of 1 × 105to 7 × 105Pa until the values of Gibbs free energy change (Δ<I>G</I>) reached near thermodynamic equilibrium (−1 to −3 kJ mol−1). The bioenergetic requirement for the metabolism to conserve energy was demonstrated by Δ<I>G</I>values as small as −5 kJ mol−1, which are less than the biological minimum energy quantum, −20 kJ mol−1, as calculated by Schink (B. Schink, Microbiol. Mol. Biol. Rev. 61:262-280, 1997). Considering formate as a possible H2storage material, the H2production potential of the strain was assessed. The volumetric H2production rate increased linearly with increasing cell density, leading to 2,820 mmol liter−1h−1at an optical density at 600 nm (OD600) of 18.6, and resulted in the high specific H2production rates of 404 ± 6 mmol g−1h−1. The H2productivity indicates the great potential ofT. onnurineusstrain NA1 for practical application in comparison with H2-producing microbes. Our result demonstrates thatT. onnurineusstrain NA1 has a highly efficient metabolic system to thrive on formate in hydrothermal systems.</P>

Lim, Chae-Sung,Oh, Yong-Sik,Lee, Jae-Kwan,Park, A-Rum,Yoo, Jae-Soo,Rhee, Sung-Keun,Roh, Dong-Hyun Society for General Microbiology 2011 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.61 No.11
<P>A yellow-pigmented, Gram-staining-negative, non-motile, strictly aerobic and rod-shaped bacterium, designated CS100(T), was isolated from soil in Chungbuk, Korea. Phylogenetic analysis and comparative studies based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that strain CS100(T) belonged to the genus Flavobacterium in the family Flavobacteriaceae. Strain CS100(T) showed the highest sequence similarities to Flavobacterium glaciei JCM 13953(T) (97.6 %) and Flavobacterium johnsoniae KACC 11410(T) (97.1 %). Sequence similarity to other members of the genus Flavobacterium was 91.5-97.0 %. Growth occurred at 4-30 C, at pH 5.0-9.0 and in the presence of 0-2 % (w/v) NaCl. Flexirubin-type pigments were produced. Menaquinone-6 (MK-6) was the major respiratory quinone and the major fatty acids were iso-C(15 : 0) (17.3 %), summed feature 3 (comprising iso-C(15 : 0) 2-OH and/or C(16 : 1)ω7c, 15.5 %) and C(16 : 0) (11.8 %). The DNA G+C content was 36.4 mol%. Strain CS100(T) hydrolysed skimmed milk and gelatin, but not chitin or pectin, and showed oxidase and catalase activities. DNA-DNA relatedness was 3.0 % with F. glaciei JCM 13953(T) and 11.5 % with F. johnsoniae KACC 11410(T). On the basis of the evidence from this study, strain CS100(T) represents a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium, for which the name Flavobacterium chungbukense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CS100(T) ( = KACC 15048(T) = JCM 17386(T)).</P>
