        Preparation of Tunable Emissive Poly(ethylene oxide) Nanofibers by Doping with TPP and DCM

        Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) nanofibers that were doubly-doped with a donor, 1,3,5-triphenyl-2-pyrzoline (TPP), and an acceptor, 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethyl-aminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM), were prepared by electrospinning to be 200-300 nm in diameter. Fluorescence from DCM was caused by non-radiative Forster-type fluorescence resonance energy transfer from photo-excited TPP to DCM. The color of the fluorescence from the PEO-TPP/DCM nanofibers was controllable through variation of the TPP:DCM molar ratio and ranged from blue to orange to white.

        2단계 뱃치 픽킹 알고리즘과 성과분석

        Order picking is one of the most crucial activities in the warehouse management. In practice, batch picking rather than pick-by-order is widely used for picking efficiency. In this study, we consider the finite volume capaciy of the picking cart in batching the orders. We propose a two-stage order batching algorithm for this practical problem. In the first stage, we apply a heuristic algorithm for the bin packing problem to minimize the number of picking tours; and in the second stage, pairwise exchange is applied for the two orders assigned to two different tours, while satisfying the cart capacity so as to minimize the total travel distances of the picker. Simulation is used to compare the average performance of the proposed method for various routing methods of the picker.

      • Changes in Metabolic Markers in Insulin-Producing β-Cells during Hypoxia-Induced Cell Death As Studied by NMR Metabolomics

        <P>This study was designed to investigate changes in the metabolites in the intracellular fluid of the pancreatic β-cell line INS-1 to identify potential early and late biomarkers for predicting hypoxia-induced cell death. INS-1 cells were incubated under normoxic conditions (95% air, 5% CO<SUB>2</SUB>) or hypoxic conditions (1% O<SUB>2</SUB>, 5% CO<SUB>2</SUB>, 95% N<SUB>2</SUB>) for 2, 4, 6, 12, or 24 h. The biological changes indicating the process of cell death were analyzed using the MTT assay, flow cytometry, Western blotting, and immunostaining. Changes in the metabolic profiles from cell lysates were identified using <SUP>1</SUP>H nuclear magnetic resonance (<SUP>1</SUP>H NMR) spectroscopy, and the spectra were analyzed by the multivariate model Orthogonal Projections to Latent Structure-Discriminant Analysis. Cell viability decreased approximately 40% after 12–24 h of hypoxia, coincident with a high level of cleaved caspase-3. A high level of HIF-1α was detected in the 12–24 h hypoxic conditions. The metabolite profiles were altered according to the degree of exposure to hypoxia. A spectral analysis showed significant differences in creatine-containing compounds at the early stage (2–6 h) and taurine-containing compounds at the late stage (12–24 h), with the detection of HIF-1α and cleaved caspase-3 in cells exposed to hypoxia compared to normoxia. Glycerophosphocholine decreased during the early stage hypoxia. The change in taurine- and creatine-containing compounds and choline species could be involved in the β-cell death process as inhibitors or activators of cell death. Our results imply that assessment by <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR spectroscopy would be a useful tool to predict the cell death process and to identify molecules regulating hypoxia-induced cell death mechanisms.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jprobs/2013/jprobs.2013.12.issue-8/pr400315e/production/images/medium/pr-2013-00315e_0007.gif'></P>

      • Anthocyanins From Black Soybean Seed Coat Enhance Wound Healing

        ABSTRACT: Anthocyanins are known to have antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects. We hypothesized that anthocyanins would enhance wound healing in Sprague-Dawley rats. The purpose of this study was to evaluate our hypothesis and investigate the mechanism of wound healing enhancement. The cytoprotective effect of an immortalized epidermal keratinocyte cell line (HaCaT) and human neonatal dermal fibroblasts in response to various concentrations of anthocyanins was determined. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and thrombospondin 1 (TSP1) of HaCaT were measured by Western blot analysis. Anthocyanins were applied to the wounds in rats, and the healing ratio was calculated. Tissue VEGF, TSP1, CD31, nuclear factor-&kgr;B, and phosphorylation of I&kgr;Bα were measured. The viability of the HaCaT cell line and human neonatal dermal fibroblasts increased under cytotoxicity by H2O2 in the anthocyanin-treated groups. The VEGF in the anthocyanin-treated groups increased, whereas TSP1 decreased. Wounds in the experimental groups healed faster, and VEGF and CD31 increased in the experimental groups, whereas TSP1 decreased. Anthocyanins inhibited the translocation of nuclear factor-&kgr;B (p65) from cytosol to nucleus and also prevented the phosphorylation of I&kgr;Bα. Anthocyanins enhance wound healing through a cytoprotective effect, enhancement of angiogenesis, and an antiinflammatory effect.

        The purpose of this study is to examine the construction of Korean emotion verbs based on their syntactic and semantic features. In this regard, the arguments that an emotion verb requires should be analyzed according to the semantic conceptual structure of its lexical information. Emotion is defined as an unintentional mental state ensuing in reaction to judgments about a particular stimulus. Emotion verbs which linguistically frame emotions, should specify the agent of emotion and the agent of stimulation external stimulus (external stimulus). When the emotion is directed to any person other than the agent of emotion, they require the object of emotion. Therefore, when directly describing the emotion of the agent of emotion, the construction of the emotion verbs forms a structure of ‘agent of emotion’. When describing the emotion of the agent of emotion toward a stimulus, it comes in the structure of ‘agent of emotion agent of stimulation’. When the emotion of the agent of emotion is directed to any person other than the agent, it takes a structure of ‘agent of emotion agent of stimulation object of emotion’. These structures are rendered into sentences according to the syntactic realization of arguments of each verb. The syntactic analysis of Korean emotion verbs drawing on such an approach offers a direct look into the linguistic construction of emotions.

        This study aims at analyzing the classification of types of Korean emotion verbs based on their features. Since emotions generate from the mind unintentionally in a certain stimulation, the direct linguistic expressions require the syntactic and semantic agents of emotion and agents of emotion stimulation. However, agents of emotion are limited in the reference of persons, because emotion is interior. Besides, the emotion verbs differ from intentional actions for emotion is not related with intention. Therefore, based on the features and the standard of the semantic roles which are embedded in the agents of emotion, emotion verbs could be classified into experiencer emotion verbs and agent emotion verbs. Accordingly, the different grammatical usages of them could be analyzed from the syntactic perspective. Furthermore, according to the semantic types, they would be sub-classified and the semantic differences in the same syntax structures could be analyzed as well.

        한·중 상승 이동 동사의 의미 대조 연구

        本論文的主要目的爲對比分析韓國語和漢語上升移動動詞的語義和之間的關系, 即在移動動詞當中具有‘移動主體爲了到更高處而向上移動’的語義的動詞。其主要研究對象爲移動主體表示具體的實體, 移動位置表示具體的空間。韓國語和漢語的上升移動動詞對應關系有一對一對或一對多, 或者沒有相對應的情況下, 漢語可以用不同方式來表達。 首先, 爲了考察本論文研究對象的語義特征, 分析上升移動動詞的概念, 以此作爲分析基礎進而分析上升移動動詞的語義結構。按照語義分析結果, 上升移動動詞根據‘移動目的’, ‘移動樣態’, ‘到達樣態’, ‘選擇制約’等基准進行了分類。根據‘移動目標’的基准, 按照移動主體是否有移動的意圖, 動詞具有意向性的語義特征。這可以將上升移動動詞分類爲有意和無意的上升移動動詞。其次, 根據’移動樣態和‘到達樣態’的基准進一步劃分動詞的語義關系。最後, 根據‘選擇制約’基准分析語義關系。 This study aims to comparatively analyse the meaning of upward movement verbs that signify the movement of a subject to reach a higher location among many movement verbs in Korean and Chinese. In particular, the scope of this study was narrowed down to verbs that have specific subject and represent locational movement within a specific space. The upward movement verbs in Korean and Chinese may form a one-on-one correspondence or a one-on-many correspondence. In case where there is no correspondence between Korean and Chinese, the Chinese counterparts can be expressed in different ways. This study examined the concept of upward movement verbs in order to analyse the target vocabulary. Then, based on the semantic characteristics of the upward movement verbs, the meaning of the verbs were categorized using criteria such as purpose of movement, nature of movement, nature of arrival, and limitations of choice. First, regarding the purpose of movement, verbs can have the semantic feature of intentionality depending on whether a subject of the movement has an intention to move. This can categorize upward movement verbs into intentional and unintentional upward movement verbs. Next, the meanings of such verbs are further divided based on nature of movement and nature of arrival. Lastly, this study also examined the differences caused by limitations of choice.

        Failure diagnosis of electro-hydraulic servo valve based on SA-PSO-SVM

        The electro-hydraulic servo valve (EHSV) is a crucial element of the electrohydraulic servo control system connecting electrical and hydraulic parts, and its performance can influence the work efficiency of the entire control system. To identify the types of faults in EHSVs accurately and solve the problems in traditional diagnostic algorithms, a fault diagnostic model using a simulated annealing particle swarm optimized (SA-PSO) support vector machine (SVM) is constructed in the paper. An SA-PSO optimized SVM parametric fault diagnosis model is built, taking static no-load flow, pressure, and internal leakage as the sample input data, and a prescribed label is viewed as the result output. Compared with the models constructed by SVM and PSO-SVM model, the advantages of the model built are proven. Classification accuracy can reach 99.3 %, and high stability can be achieved.

        Mode conversion was studied with thin plate defects by using lamb wave scattering analysis. Phase velocity dispersion curve and group velocity dispersion curve of material were calculated for lamb wave scattering analysis. A defect shape was obtained from boundary element method (B.E.M) with respect to reflection and transmission factor. Time domain wave analysis was also performed with scattering field modeling and inverse fast fourier transform (IFFT). A feasibility of lamb wave technique was discussed for various practical application including defect classification.

        <P>This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPIO), on signal transduction by glucose and insulin in pancreatic β-cells. INS-1 cells were labeled in culture medium containing clinically approved SPIO for 24 h. Labeled and unlabeled cells were stimulated with glucose (25 mM) or insulin (0.1-1 ?M) for 12 h. The phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase1/2 (ERK1/2) and protein kinase B (AKT) and intracellular insulin protein levels were assessed by Western blotting. After labeling with increasing amounts of SPIO, cytotoxicity was not observed, yet the intracellular iron concentration increased in a dose-dependent manner. SPIO labeling (200 ?g Fe ml(-1)) induced a significant increase in ERK1/2 and AKT phosphorylation (labeled vs unlabeled, p < 0.05), but significantly reduced the glucose-stimulated phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and AKT and insulin-stimulated phosphorylation of AKT (labeled vs unlabeled, p < 0.05). The level of intracellular insulin protein was found to be lower in labeled cells than unlabeled cells (labeled vs unlabeled, p < 0.05). This study demonstrates that SPIO labeling alters some fundamental functional variables, at least in INS-1 cells, through modulation of the glucose- or insulin-induced activation of ERK1/2 and AKT, which leads to insulin biosynthesis.</P>
