Clinical Characteristics and Impact of Diabetes Mellitus on Outcomes in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation

        Bi Huang,양안민,Jun Zhu,Yan Liang,Han Zhang,Li Tian,Xinghui Shao,Juan Wang 연세대학교의과대학 2015 Yonsei medical journal Vol.56 No.1

Purpose: Studies have shown that diabetes mellitus (DM) is a risk factor for cardiovasculardisease, including atrial fibrillation (AF); however, the clinical characteristicsand prognostic impact of DM in patients with nonvalvular AF have not been well understood in China. Materials and Methods: Included were 1644 consecutive patients with nonvalvular AF. Endpoints included all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, stroke, major bleeding, and combined endpoint events (CEE) during a 1-year follow-up. Results: The prevalence of DM was 16.8% in nonvalvular AF patients. Compared with non-diabetic AF patients, diabetic AF patientswere older and tended to coexist with other cardiovascular diseases. Most patients with DM (93.5%) were eligible for anticoagulation, as determined by CHADS2 scores. However, only 11.2% of patients received anticoagulation. Duringa 1-year follow-up, the all-cause mortality and CEE rate in the DM group were significantly higher than those of the non-DM group, while the incidence of stroke was comparable. After multivariate adjustments, DM was still an independent risk factor for 1-year all-cause mortality [hazard ratio (HR)=1.558; 95% confidence interval(CI) 1.126‒2.156; p=0.007], cardiovascular mortality (HR=1.615; 95% CI 1.052‒2.479; p=0.028), and CEE (HR=1.523; 95% CI 1.098‒2.112; p=0.012), yet not for stroke (HR=1.119; 95% CI 0.724‒1.728; p=0.614). Conclusion: DM is a common morbidity coexisting with nonvalvular AF and is associated with an increasedrisk of 1-year all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and CEE. However, no increased risk of stroke was found during a 1-year follow-up in patientswith AF and DM.

Inhibitory Effect of Melanoma Differentiation Associated Gene-7/Interleukin-24 on Invasion In Vitro of Human Melanoma Cancer Cells

        Bi-wen Lin,Ze-long Jiao,Jian-feng Fan,Liang Peng,Lei Li,Zi-gang Zhao,Xiang-yu Ding,이형진 대한의학회 2013 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.28 No.6

The acquisition of metastasis potential is a critical point for malignant tumors. Melanoma differentiation associated gene-7/interleukin-24 (mda-7/IL-24) is a potential tumor suppress gene and frequently down-regulated in malignant tumors. It has been implicated that overexpression of MDA-7 led to proliferation inhibition in many types of human tumor. Invasion is an important process which is potential to promote tumor metastasis. However, the role and potential molecular mechanism of mda-7/IL-24 to inhibit the invasion of human melanoma cancer is not fully clear. In this report, we identified a solid role for mda-7/IL-24 in invasion inhibition of human melanoma cancer LiBr cells, including decreasing of adhesion and invasion in vitro, blocking cell cycle, down-regulating the expression of ICAM-1, MMP-2/9, CDK1, the phosphorylation of ERK and Akt, NF-κB and AP-1 transcription activity. Meanwhile, there was an increased expression of PTEN in mda-7/IL-24 over-expression LiBr cells. Our results demonstrated that mda-7/IL-24 is a potential invasion suppress gene, which inhibits the invasion of LiBr cells by the down-regulation of ICAM-1, MMP-2/9, PTEN, and CDK1 expression. The molecular pathways involved were the MAPK/ERK, PI3K-Akt, NF-κB, and AP-1. These findings suggest that mda-7/IL-24 may be used as a possible therapeutic strategy for human melanoma cancer.

Comparative Transcriptome Analysis of Rhizoctonia solani-resistant and -Susceptible Rice Cultivars Reveals the Importance of Pathogen Recognition and Active Immune Responses in Host Resistance

        Guo-Liang Wang,Shaohong Qu,Zhengjie Yuan,Yu Zhang,Guojuan Xu,Dongling Bi,Haiyan Qu,Xiaowei Zou,Xiaoqing Gao,Haihe Yang,Haiyan He,Xuli Wang,Jiandong Bao,Shimin Zuo,Xuebiao Pan,Bo Zhou 한국식물학회 2018 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.61 No.3

Rice sheath blight (SB), caused by Rhizoctoniasolani (R. solani), is a major threat to rice productionworldwide. The molecular mechanisms of the SB resistancein rice are poorly understood. The transcriptomes of the SBresistantrice cultivar YSBR1 and the susceptible cultivarLemont were analyzed after R. solani infection. A total of7624 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identifiedat one or more timepoints in a cultivar. 5526 and 5618 DEGswere differentially expressed in Lemont and YSBR1,respectively. YSBR1 exhibited stronger and earlier transcriptionalresponse to R. solani than Lemont. Gene ontology enrichmentanalysis revealed that genes that encode cell wall-modifyingand glycosyl-degrading enzymes or anti-microbial proteinswere specifically induced in YSBR1 at 6 hpi. MapMananalysis revealed that more DEGs related with cell wall, β-glucanses, respiratory burst, phenylpropanoids and ligninwere highly induced by R. solani in YSBR1 than in Lemont. The results also showed that receptor-like kinases and jasmonicacid signaling may play important roles in host resistance toR. solani. This study highlights potential candidate genes andsignaling pathways involved in rice sheath resistance and canhelp to further clarify the mechanistic events underlyingresistance and susceptibility to R. solani.

Development of a Simple and Efficient System for Excising Selectable Markers in Arabidopsis Using a Minimal Promoter::Cre Fusion Construct

        Hyun-Bi Kim,전종성,Jung-Il Cho,Nayeon Ryoo,Shaohong Qu,Guo-Liang Wang 한국분자세포생물학회 2012 Molecules and cells Vol.33 No.1

The development of rapid and efficient strategies to gen-erate selectable marker-free transgenic plants could help increase the consumer acceptance of genetically modified (GM) plants. To produce marker-free transgenic plants without conditional treatment or the genetic crossing of offspring, we have developed a rapid and convenient DNA excision method mediated by the Cre/loxP recombination system under the control of a -46 minimal CaMV 35S promoter. The results of a transient expression assay showed that -46 minimal promoter::Cre recombinase (-46::Cre) can cause the loxP-specific excision of a selectable marker, thereby connecting the 35S promoter and -glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene. Analysis of stable transgenic Arabidopsis plants indicated a positive correlation between loxP-specific DNA excision and GUS expression. PCR and DNA gel-blot analysis further revealed that nine of the 10 tested T1 transgenic lines carried both excised and non-excised constructs in their genomes. In the subsequent T2 generation plants, over 30% of the individuals for each line were marker-free plants harboring the excised construct only. These results demonstrate that the -46::Cre fusion construct can be efficiently and easily utilized for producing marker-free transgenic plants.

Development and Testing of a 10 kV 1.5 kA Mobile DC De-Icer based on Modular Multilevel Converter with STATCOM Function

Hu, Pengfei,Liang, Yiqiao,Du, Yi,Bi, Renming,Rao, Chonglin,Han, Yang The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.2

This paper introduces the development of a de-icer based on a full-bridge modular multilevel converter (FMMC). The FMMC can generate a wide range of DC voltages owing to its modularity, scalability, and redundancy, which makes it suitable for ice-melting applications. First, operating principles and voltage ranges are analyzed when FMMC is applied as a mobile de-icer. Second, two new startup strategies, constant modulation index and constant power startup strategies, are proposed. Third, the main control strategies of the de-icer are proposed. Fourth, a novel rated-current zero-power test scheme is proposed to simplify test conditions. Finally, a 10 kV 1.5 kA mobile MMC de-icer is designed and built, and experiments are carried out to validate the proposed startup, control strategies, and rated-current zero-power test scheme.

Prediction and Monitoring of the Construction Vibration Effect on an Adjacent Old Long Span Double-Convex Arch Bridge

        Yu-xiong Liang,Qing-song Feng,Mei-zhen Fu,Bi-tao Wu,Jian-fei Lu,Guo-xi Tang 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.5

Ground vibrations caused by the construction of impact drilling piles may affect adjacent bridges, so corresponding prediction and monitoring are necessary to ensure the safety of bridges. In this study, the construction near an existing long-span double-convex arch bridge is taken as a case study to investigate different layouts of construction machines emanating harmful ground vibrations to the existing adjacent bridge by numerical simulations and monitoring. The peak acceleration and velocity acquired from numerical simulations, and monitoring were successfully used to implement impact drilling pile construction near the existing bridge. The results show that there are good consistencies between the monitoring and numerical simulation results, and the vibration acceleration of the foundation of abutments and piers are mainly derived from the vibration caused by the construction within a distance of 50 m, while the construction beyond 50 m has little effect on the old bridge. The numbers and locations of machines near the same foundation may have a weakening or strengthening effect on the peak acceleration and velocity due to destructive and constructive interference of waves, which can help to control the effects of the vibrations of the existing adjacent bridge.

RANET: A Grasp Generative Residual Attention Network for Robotic Grasping Detection

        Qian-Qian Hong,Liang Yang,Bi Zeng 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.12

This paper presents a novel grasp generative residual attention network (RANET) for generating antipodal robotic grasp from multi-modal images with the pixel-wise method. To strengthen the generalization ability of unknown objects, this paper proposed a new structure that differs from the previous grasp generative network in that it additionally integrates a coordinate attention mechanism and a symmetrical skip connection, respectively. Using the coordinate attention module to emphasize meaningful information of the feature map and the symmetrical skip connection to remain more fine-grained details of feature. Moreover, a multi atrous convolution module is included in the structure to capture more high-level information, while a hypercolumn feature fusion method is incorporated for getting the best from the complementation of different layers’ features. Through evaluation on public datasets, the result demonstrates that we achieve 98.9% accuracy on the Cornell dataset which is the state-of-the-art performance with real-time speed(∼ 17 ms), meanwhile, we represent a 93.9% accuracy performance on the Jacquard dataset.

      • Prognostic Implications for High Expression of MiR-25 in Lung Adenocarcinomas of Female Non-smokers

        Xu, Fang-Xiu,Su, Yu-Liang,Zhang, Huan,Kong, Jin-Yu,Yu, Herbert,Qian, Bi-Yun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.3

Background: Adenocarcinoma (ADC) is the most common histological type of lung cancer and its proportion is rising, especially in Asian non-smoking women. Recent studies suggest miR-25 may have diverse effects on the pathogenesis of different types of cancer. However, the role of miR-25 in lung cancer is still unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential clinical value of miR-25 in non-smoking women with lung ADC. Patients and Methods: Quantitative RT-PCR was performed to evaluate the expression of miR-25 in 100 lung ADC tumor tissues and matched plasma samples and Pearson correlation tests were used to analyze the relationship between values. Associations of miR-25 expression with clinicopathological features were determined using the Student's t-test. To determine prognostic value, overall survival (OS) was evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using the Cox proportional hazard model. Results: Expression of miR-25 in tissue was found to be associated with lymph node metastasis (P=0.021) and disease stage (P=0.012). Moreover, high miR-25 expression was also associated with poorer overall survival of women with lung ADC (P=0.008). Conclusion: Tissue miR-25 expression may be associated with tumor progression and have prognostic implications in female lung ADC patients.
