This paper views the popularity of Ch’oe Inho’s The Land of the Stars, his first full-length novel, as being closely related to the way the female character is portrayed, and aims to analyze the interrelation between the depiction of the female character and the novel’s commercial success. The popularity of the main female character ‘Kyung A’ is well-known — however, how she breaks away from the female characterization of Ch’oe’s earlier works of short stories, and how she is at the center of the novel’s various narrative strategies have not yet been discussed, which will thus be the focus of this paper. We will be comparing The Land of the Stars to “2 and 1/2,” a representative work from Ch’oe’s earlier period and is similar to The Land of the Stars in terms of its motif, narrative structure and even in some ways, its characterization of women. Such comparison will reveal that Ch’oe’s characterization of women in The Land of the Stars makes a significant break from his previous works, the significance of which we will be discussing in detail. Innovative narrative strategies such as detective-novel style structure, reverse order narration, alternation of ‘1st person’ narration and omniscient narration will be discussed in conjunction with the narrative process of sublimating ‘Kyung A’ into a ‘holy virgin,’ ultimately showing that the commercial success of The Land of the Stars depends upon such change in female characterization. 이형진, 2020, 최인호 소설의 대중성과 여성 표상, 어문연구, 187 : 173~199 본고는 崔仁浩의 별들의 고향이 획득하게 된 大衆性이 女性 人物이 形象化되는 방식과 밀접한 관련이 있다고 보고 그 관련성에 대해 면밀히 분석하고자 한다. 별들의 고향의 여성 주인공 ‘경아’의 대중적 인기는 물론 익히 알려진 바이지만, 이 여성 인물이 최인호의 초기 단편소설들에서 형상화되고 있는 여성 인물들과 어떻게 결별하고 있는지, 그리고 최인호가 별들의 고향에서 채용하고 있는 다양한 서사전략의 중심에 어떠한 방식으로 자리하고 있는지 본고를 통해 새롭게 살펴보도록 할 것이다. 이를 위해 최인호 초기 작품 세계의 대표작으로 꼽히며, 평단에서 높은 평가를 받았음은 물론, 별들의 고향과 모티프, 구성 방식, 여성 인물의 형상화 등에 있어 유사한 점이 많은 「2와 1/2」과 별들의 고향을 면밀하게 比較 分析함으로써 최인호가 여성 인물을 형상화하는 방식이 별들의 고향을 起點으로 어떻게 변화하고 있는지 드러내고, 그것이 어떠한 의미를 지니는지 살펴보고자 한다. 推理小說的 構成, 逆順行的 構成, ‘1인칭’과 ‘전지적 작가 시점’의 교차 서술 등의 서사전략에 대한 검토를 통해 경아가 ‘성처녀’로 만들어지는 과정과 별들의 고향의 대중적 성공이 맞물려 있음을 드러내고자 한다.

In recent years, measurement in a smart-phone environment is attracting attention in various fields due to its easy set-up process, various functions, convenience and expandability. Even in the field of safety evaluation and maintenance of large-scale infra-structures, the appropriate application of these effective and convenient measurement techniques can be of great help. In this paper, an experimental study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness, problems and complementary methods of applying smart-phone accelerometers to the measurement in infra-structure such as bridges. In model bridge subjected to impact and moving loads, the measured accelerations using a smart-phone and a professional accelerometer were directly compared in time domain. And the statistical and frequency characteristics of the measured signal and transfer function were also examined in frequency domain. The results show that the accuracy of measurement using smart-phone sensor is primarily affected by its incomplete sampling performance. In conclusion, smart-phone sensors cannot be considered suitable for precise assessment, where measurements must be accurate over a wide frequency range, but we can say that the technique is still useful and fairly accurate for some purpose over a limited frequency range, such as the low pass frequency range, which is a major concern for civil structures.

딘 쿤츠의 『어둠의 눈』과 코로나 팬데믹 공포의 문화번역

This study intends to analyze the characteristics of cultural translation, reflected in the Korean translation of Dean Koontz’s 1981 thriller novel The Eyes of Darkness, which has immediately become a significant bestseller worldwide in the context of COVID-19 Pandemic, regardless of the author’s marginal status as a thriller writer or the crime novel’s low literary status. Koontz’s novel has been revived in 40 years mainly in the context of the particular reference to the ‘Wuhan-400’ virus with 100% fatality in the novel. Despite the lack of similarities between the virus in the novel and the COVID-19 reality, Koontz’s novel has been recreated to be used as an effective political weapon in the U.S. to frame China as responsible for the COVID-19 Pandemic. The politically popular bestseller status of the novel with a recently generated cultural hegemony has resulted in the higher degree of faithfulness in the Korean translation despite the novel’s low aesthetic value and crime fiction genre characteristics. While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused public fear and prejudice, the Korean translation of Koontz’s novel has likely responded to the circumstances by recreating and amplifying prejudice and hatred against China as a result of faithful cultural translation. 본 연구는 원작 출간 40년 만에 언론과 대중의 급작스러운 역주행 관심을 받으며 2020년 4월, 한국어 번역본까지 최초로 발간된 미국 스릴러 작가 딘 쿤츠(Dean Koontz)의 1981년 소설 The Eyes of Darkness의 한국어 번역이, 작품의 문학성이나 작가성의 가치와는 무관하게 오로지 코로나 팬데믹과의 연관성에 의해이루어졌다는 문제의식을 문화번역의 관점에서 분석했다. 쿤츠 소설에 등장하는치사율 100%의 ‘우한-400’ 바이러스가 현실에서는 코로나바이러스의 중국 음모론을 구축하는 서구의 정치적 공격의 도구로 왜곡되는 과정을 문화번역 현상으로규정했다. 원작의 낮은 작품성과 스릴러 소설의 한계에도 불구하고 상당한 수준의 직역으로 완성된 한국어 번역본은 쿤츠 소설의 급작스러운 베스트셀러 위상과 정치적 헤게모니의 문화번역 결과물이며, 한국어 번역에서 변형되고 과장되는중국에 대한 편견과 왜곡은, 팬데믹 바이러스에 대한 무지와 공포, 편견이 문화번역과정에서 확대, 재생산된 흔적이고 결과물임을 밝히고 있다.

수정된 웨이블릿 변환 개념을 이용한 계측 가속도 기록의 이중 적분법

일반적으로 토목구조물에서 계측된 가속도 신호의 대부분은 적분이 매우 힘들다. 그 이유는 토목구조에서 계측된 가속도 신호는 일반적으로 비정상신호이며 또한 비가우시안 노이즈와 저주파 노이즈를 포함하고 있어, 저주파 성분이 증폭되는 적분과정에서 수치적 불안정성이 발생할 수 있기 때문이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 비정상 신호처리에 탁월한 웨이블릿 변환의 개념을 비가우시안 노이즈와 저주파 노이즈에 대해 확장한 수정된 웨이블릿 변환을 이용한 가속도 기록의 이중 적분방법을 제시하였다. 또한, 예제해석을 통해 제시된 방법이 비정상 신호의 노이즈 및 비가우시안 노이즈와 저주파 노이즈를 제거에 우수한 성능을 보이고 있음을 보였다.
