Eigenvalue Analysis of Overhang Structures by Pseudospectral Method
Lee, Jinhee Research Institute of Science and Technology HONGI 2005 Hongik Journal of Science and Technology Vol.9 No.-
The pseudospectral method is applied to the free vibration analysis of overhang structures which consist of Timoshenko beams. The analysis is based on the Chebyshev polynomials. Each section of the overhang structure has its own basis functions, and the continuity conditions at the intermediate support as well as the boundary conditions are treated separately as the constraints of the basis functions. Natural frequencies of overhang structures with pinned-pinned-free support conditions are provided for different thickness-to-length ratios and for different span ratios. The computed natural frequencies agree with those of Euler-Bernoulli beams when the thickness-to-length ratio is small but deviate considerably as the thickness-to-length ratio grows larger.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different types of exercise training on neurodegeneration and cognitive function in mice with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). Thirty-six male C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to the control (CO, n = 9) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT, n = 27) groups. The IGT group consumed 45% high fat diet for 4 weeks and received 40 mg/kg of streptozotocin twice in the lower abdomen to induce IGT. After the IGT induction period, the IGT group was subdivided into IGT + sedentary (IGT, n = 9), IGT + endurance exercise (IGTE, n = 9), and IGT + resistance exercise (IGTR, n = 9). The IGTE and IGTR groups performed treadmill and ladder climbing exercises 5 times per week for 8 weeks, respectively. Fasting glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels were significantly higher in IGT group than in CO, IGTE, and IGTR groups ( p < 0.05). HOMA-IR was significantly higher in IGT group than CO group ( p < 0.05). Hippocampal catalase (CAT) was significantly lower in IGT group than in CO group ( p < 0.05), while beta-amyloid (Aβ) was significantly higher in IGT group than in CO group ( p < 0.05). Hippocampal tau was significantly higher in IGT group than in CO, IGTE, and IGTR groups ( p < 0.05). The Y-maze test performance for cognitive function was significantly lower in IGT group than in CO, IGTE, and IGTR groups ( p <0.05). These results suggest that IGT induces neurodegeneration and negatively affects cognitive function, while regular exercise may be effective in alleviating neurodegeneration and cognitive decline regardless of exercise type.

Purpose: This study is a descriptive research study intended to confirm the effect of COVID-19 related efficacy of infection prevention activity, fear, and crisis communication skills on the importance of newly infectious dis-ease response capability of the nursing students. Method: The subjects were 266 3rd and 4th year students enrolled in the Department of Nursing at a univer-sity located in City I of Province J. The data collection was conducted from June 14 to June 27, 2020, and the data analysis method was the SPSS/WIN 23.0 using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, Independ-ent t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and the multiple regression analysis was per-formed. Results: As a result of this study, the importance of newly infectious disease response capability turned out to have a statistically significant positive correlation with the efficacy of infection prevention activity, fear, and crisis communication skills. The importance of newly infectious disease response capability included the efficacy of infection prevention activity(β=.365, p<.001), crisis communication skills(β=.212, p<.001), and fear(β=.130, p<.001) .045), while the explanatory power was 30.0%. Conclusion: This study confirmed that the nursing students' COVID-19 related efficacy of infection prevention activity, fear, and crisis communication skills were the factors influencing the importance of newly infectious disease response capability related to COVID-19. Among which, it is necessary to develop an infection prevention activity support program to strengthen the efficacy of infection prevention activity yielding the largest impact.

Lee, Yongwoo,Han, Jungmin,Choi, Bongsik,Yoon, Jinsu,Park, Jinhee,Kim, Yeamin,Lee, Jieun,Kim, Dae Hwan,Kim, Dong Myong,Lim, Meehyun,Kang, Min-Ho,Kim, Sungho,Choi, Sung-Jin American Chemical Society 2018 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.10 No.18
<P>Three-dimensional (3D) printers have attracted considerable attention from both industry and academia and especially in recent years because of their ability to overcome the limitations of two-dimensional (2D) processes and to enable large-scale facile integration techniques. With 3D printing technologies, complex structures can be created using only a computer-aided design file as a reference; consequently, complex shapes can be manufactured in a single step with little dependence on manufacturer technologies. In this work, we provide a first demonstration of the facile and time-saving 3D printing of two-terminal micro-electromechanical (MEM) switches. Two widely used thermoplastic materials were used to form 3D-printed MEM switches; freely suspended and fixed electrodes were printed from conductive polylactic acid, and a water-soluble sacrificial layer for air-gap formation was printed from poly(vinyl alcohol). Our 3D-printed MEM switches exhibit excellent electromechanical properties, with abrupt switching characteristics and an excellent on/off current ratio value exceeding 106. Therefore, we believe that our study makes an innovative contribution with implications for the development of a broader range of 3D printer applications (e.g., the manufacturing of various MEM devices and sensors), and the work highlights a uniquely attractive path toward the realization of 3D-printed electronics.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A series of well-defined poly(arylene ether sulfone)s (PESs) as a rod-type block was synthesized by chain-growth condensation polymerization from a diphenyl sulfone-type initiator containing a fluorine leaving group and an allyl moiety. Interestingly, these oligomeric PESs exhibited lower critical solution temperature (LCST)-type phase transition behavior in organic solvents, i.e., 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) and chloroform. The clouding point temperature was affected by the molecular weight and concentration of the polymers. The cloud temperature decreased as the molecular weight polymers and the concentration of polymer solution increased. And also two series of rod-coil type poly(arylene ether sulfone)-<I>b</I>-polylactides were synthesized by controlled ring-opening esterification polymerization of <SMALL>DL</SMALL>-lactide with a PES-derived macroinitiator in which the allyl group was transformed into an aliphatic hydroxyl group by a thiol-ene click reaction. These diblock copolymers also exhibited LCST behavior in DME, and the nanoscale size of the aggregates increased upon heating.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Well-controlled rod-type poly(ethersulfone)s were synthesized. </LI> <LI> The poly(ethersulfone)s exhibited thermos-responsive properties in organic solvents. </LI> <LI> This phase transition behavior was also observed with diblock copolymers. </LI> <LI> Their cloud points were affected by the molecular weight and the concentration. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Nanoporous poly(ether sulfone) from polylactide-b-poly(ether sulfone)-b-polylactide precursor

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report a route to synthesize polylactide-b-poly(ether sulfone)-b-polylactide (PLA-b-PES-b-PLA) containing PES and PLA, which provide a mechanically robust framework and a sacrificial template for pore formation, respectively. High-molar mass PES terminated with fluorine groups was synthesized by the step-growth nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction, and the chain ends were transformed into benzylic hydroxyl groups by chain end modification. Growth of the PLA using the hydroxyl groups as initiating sites via chain-growth ring opening transesterification polymerization (ROTEP) produced the target triblock copolymer. Although the step-growth polymerization produced a PES middle block with high dispersity, small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses indicated the formation of an ordered lamellar morphology. We further demonstrated that a nanoporous PES with slit-like pores could be obtained by selective removal of the PLA.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A synthetic route to polylactide-b-poly(ether sulfone)-b-polylactide was developed. </LI> <LI> The chain ends of high-molar mass poly(ether sulfone) were modified to grow polylactide. </LI> <LI> The triblock copolymer exhibited an ordered lamellar phase. </LI> <LI> Removal of the PLA produced a nanoporous poly(ether sulfone) containing slit-like pores. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
