The impact of ultrasound on Janus capsules at gel-liquid interface

Kubiak Tomasz,Zubko Maja,Józefczak Arkadiusz 한국물리학회 2022 Current Applied Physics Vol.38 No.-

Ultrasound-responsive Janus capsules gain increasing recognition in the scientific world due to the wide spectrum of their potential applications. Spherical structures with the heterogeneous shells composed of two kinds of fused polymeric microparticles can be particularly useful when the cargo should be released in a strictly controlled manner. Distinct physical properties of individual hemispheres have a significant impact on the course of the payload release process. In this paper we deal with the problem of the influence of high-frequency and low intensity ultrasound on the behaviour of Janus capsules placed at the gel-liquid interface. Such a boundary between two phases can simulate the natural barriers occurring for example in biological systems. We show that 1 MHz acoustic waves are able to liberate the content from Janus capsule and push the freed liquid cargo through the interface so that it penetrates into the gel medium. We demonstrate that the size of the Janus capsule and, above all, its orientation at the interface in relation to the direction of acoustic wave propagation, are the key factors determining the progress of payload release and its transfer to the gel medium. Shell region that is mechanically weaker tends to break faster, which defines the initial path of payload release. Presented results contribute to a better understanding of physical phenomena occurring during the interaction of ultrasound with particle capsules. They can also become a source of inspiration not only for further experimental research, but also for theoretical analysis.

The Uneven Integration of Polish Manufacturing Industries into the European Single Market

( Anna Wzi Tek Kubiak ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 (구 세종대학교 국제경제연구소) 2007 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.22 No.1

The paper aims to show the uneven process of integration of Polish manufacturing into the Single Market due to differentiational changes in competitiveness across industries (third digit level of NACE Rev. 1.1 classification) in 1996-2001. It starts with a discussion on the nature and measurement of competitiveness. Since this notion is derived from that of competition as rivalry, the effects and factors of competition are the focus. Section 2 describes the overall picture of changes in competitiveness of Polish manufacturing measured by changes in market shares and relative labour productivity. Changes in relative unit export values as a measure of changes in quality of products produced in Poland are considered. Section 3 analyses the usefulness of various measures of changes in the competitiveness of Polish manufacturing in depicting the uneven process of integration of industries into the Single Market. In the last section the winners and losers in the process of integration of Polish manufacturing into the Single Market and the factors determining uneven integration are analysed.

Quality of Meat (Longissimus dorsi) from Male Fallow Deer (Dama dama) Packaged and Stored under Vacuum and Modified Atmosphere Conditions

        Piaskowska, N.,Daszkiewicz, T.,Kubiak, D.,Zapotoczny, P. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2016 Animal Bioscience Vol.29 No.12

This study evaluated the effect of vacuum and modified atmosphere (40% $CO_2+60%$ $N_2$, MA) packaging on the chemical composition, physicochemical properties and sensory attributes of chill-stored meat from 10 fallow deer (Dama dama) bucks at 17 to 18 months of age. The animals were hunter-harvested in the forests of north-eastern Poland. During carcass dressing (48 to 54 h post mortem), both musculus longissimus muscles were cut out. Each muscle was divided into seven sections which were allocated to three groups: 0, A, and B. Samples 0 were immediately subjected to laboratory analyses. Samples A were vacuum-packaged, and samples B were packaged in MA. Packaged samples were stored for 7, 14, and 21 days at $2^{\circ}C$. The results of the present study showed that the evaluated packaging systems had no significant effect on the quality of fallow deer meat during chilled storage. However, vacuum-packaged meat samples were characterised by greater drip loss. Vacuum and MA packaging contributed to preserving the desired physicochemical properties and sensory attributes of meat during 21 days of storage. Regardless of the packaging method used, undesirable changes in the colour, water-holding capacity and juiciness of meat, accompanied by tenderness improvement, were observed during chilled storage.

EPR spectroscopy and imaging of TEMPO-labeled magnetite nanoparticles

        Ryszard Krzyminiewski,Tomasz Kubiak,Bernadeta Dobosz,Grzegorz Schroeder,Joanna Kurczewska 한국물리학회 2014 Current Applied Physics Vol.14 No.5

The article presents results of a study of TEMPO-labeled polymer coated superparamagnetic iron(II,III) oxide nanoparticles using both Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance imaging technique (EPRI). The X-band (9.4 GHz) EPR spectroscopy was used to investigate the behavior of TEMPO-labeled polymer coated magnetite nanoparticles in different conditions (temperature and orientation in magnetic field). The broad line, which comes from the core of Fe3O4 nanoparticles, shows anisotropy. This signal broadens with decreasing temperature, its intensity increases with increasing temperature and the g factor decreases with increasing temperature. The shape of the signal from nitroxide radical strongly depends on temperature. When temperature is higher than 200 K, a narrow triplet appears, but when it is lower than 200 K the signal consists of broad asymmetric lines. Analysis of the signal allowed characterization of the motion of the spin label attached to nanoparticles. Values of anisotropy parameter 3 and rotational correlation time sc were calculated for TEMPO in the fast rotation regime. The ability of TEMPO-labeled PEG coated magnetite nanoparticles to diffuse within the hydrogel mediumwas also investigated. The EPR imaging of nanoparticles diffusion in hydrogel was made at room temperature using an EPR L-band (1 GHz) spectrometer. EPRI has been proved effective for evaluation of changes in the spatial distribution of nanoparticles in the sample.

IMPROVING THE EFFICIENCY OF FOUR-STROKE ENGINE WITH USE OF THE PNEUMATIC ENERGY ACCUMULATOR-SIMULATIONS AND EXAMINATION

        A. DABROWSKI,M. GLOGOWSKI,P. KUBIAK 한국자동차공학회 2016 International journal of automotive technology Vol.17 No.4

This article presents selected results of preliminary tests that were carried out on a four-stroke engine with spark ignition (SI), as well as a mechanical oscillator with pneumatic support - the so-called pneumatic energy accumulator (PAE). This solution is expected to provide a significant improvement in the efficiency of SI engines in a range of partial loads. Due to the self-regulatory properties of the combustion chamber, the engine equipped with this type of oscillator is called an Active Combustion Chambers engine or, in short, an ACC engine. The aim of this study was preliminary to evaluate the possibility of controlling the thermodynamic processes that occur at the end of a compression stroke and at the beginning of an expansion stroke. It also aimed to carry out a preliminary assessment of a simulation model of a PAE (US 872039-B2). This article includes a diagram of an ACC engine with a brief description of the physical model of the oscillator. It also includes the mathematical description that was used for the simulation. As part of the analysis that was carried out, the article presents graphs of the simulation studies and empirical research.

GRAVITATIONAL BINARY-LENS EVENTS WITH PROMINENT EFFECTS OF LENS ORBITAL MOTION

        Park, H.,Udalski, A.,Han, C.,Gould, A.,Beaulieu, J.-P.,Tsapras, Y.,Szymań,ski, M. K.,Kubiak, M.,Soszyń,ski, I.,Pietrzyń,ski, G.,Poleski, R.,Ulaczyk, K.,Pietrukowicz, P.,Kozłowski, S.,Sk IOP Publishing 2013 The Astrophysical journal Vol.778 No.2

<P>Gravitational microlensing events produced by lenses composed of binary masses are important because they provide a major channel for determining physical parameters of lenses. In this work, we analyze the light curves of two binary-lens events, OGLE-2006-BLG-277 and OGLE-2012-BLG-0031, for which the light curves exhibit strong deviations from standard models. From modeling considering various second-order effects, we find that the deviations are mostly explained by the effect of the lens orbital motion. We also find that lens parallax effects can mimic orbital effects to some extent. This implies that modeling light curves of binary-lens events not considering orbital effects can result in lens parallaxes that are substantially different from actual values and thus wrong determinations of physical lens parameters. This demonstrates the importance of routine consideration of orbital effects in interpreting light curves of binary-lens events. It is found that the lens of OGLE-2006-BLG-277 is a binary composed of a low-mass star and a brown dwarf companion.</P>

TRIPLE MICROLENS OGLE-2008-BLG-092L: BINARY STELLAR SYSTEM WITH A CIRCUMPRIMARY URANUS-TYPE PLANET

        Poleski, Radosław,Skowron, Jan,Udalski, Andrzej,Han, Cheongho,Kozłowski, Szymon,Wyrzykowski, Łukasz,Dong, Subo,Szymań,ski, Michał K.,Kubiak, Marcin,Pietrzyń,ski, Grzegorz,Soszyń,ski, Ig IOP Publishing 2014 The Astrophysical journal Vol.795 No.1

<P>We present the gravitational microlensing discovery of a 4 M-Uranus planet that orbits a 0.7 M circle dot star at approximate to 18 AU. This is the first known analog of Uranus. Similar planets, i.e., cold ice giants, are inaccessible to either radial velocity or transit methods because of the long orbital periods, while low reflected light prevents direct imaging. We discuss how similar planets may contaminate the sample of the very short microlensing events that are interpreted as free-floating planets with an estimated rate of 1.8 per main-sequence star. Moreover, the host star has a nearby stellar (or brown dwarf) companion. The projected separation of the planet is only about three times smaller than that of the companion star, suggesting significant dynamical interactions.</P>

OGLE‐2009‐BLG‐023/MOA‐2009‐BLG‐028: characterization of a binary microlensing event based on survey data

        Hwang, K.‐,H.,Han, C.,Udalski, A.,Sumi, T.,Gould, A.,Jaroszyń,ski, M.,Kubiak, M.,Szymań,ski, M. K.,Pietrzyń,ski, G.,Soszyń,ski, I.,Szewczyk, O.,Ulaczyk, K.,Wyrzykowski, Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2011 MONTHLY NOTICES- ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY Vol.413 No.2

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>We report the result of the analysis of the light curve of a caustic‐crossing binary‐lens microlensing event OGLE‐2009‐BLG‐023/MOA‐2009‐BLG‐028. Even though the event was observed solely by survey experiments, we could uniquely determine the mass of the lens and distance to it by simultaneously measuring the Einstein radius and lens parallax. From this, we find that the lens system is composed of M‐type dwarfs with masses (0.50 ± 0.07) and (0.15 ± 0.02) M⊙ located in the Galactic disc with a distance of ∼1.8 kpc toward the Galactic bulge direction. The event demonstrates that physical lens parameters of binary‐lens events can be routinely determined from future high‐cadence lensing surveys and thus microlensing can provide a new way to study Galactic binaries.</P>

OGLE-2005-BLG-018: CHARACTERIZATION OF FULL PHYSICAL AND ORBITAL PARAMETERS OF A GRAVITATIONAL BINARY LENS

        Shin, I.-G.,Udalski, A.,Han, C.,Gould, A.,Dominik, M.,Fouqué,, P.,Kubiak, M.,Szymań,ski, M. K.,Pietrzyń,ki, G.,Soszyń,ski, I.,Ulaczyk, K.,Wyrzykowski, Ł.,DePoy, D. L.,Dong, S.,Gau IOP Publishing 2011 The Astrophysical journal Vol.735 No.2

<P>We present the result of the analysis of the gravitational binary-lensing event OGLE-2005-BLG-018. The light curve of the event is characterized by two adjacent strong features and a single weak feature separated from the strong features. The light curve exhibits noticeable deviations from the best-fit model based on standard binary parameters. To explain the deviation, we test models including various higher-order effects of the motions of the observer, source, and lens. From this, we find that it is necessary to account for the orbital motion of the lens in describing the light curve. From modeling the light curve considering the parallax effect and Keplerian orbital motion, we are able to not only measure the physical parameters but also to find a complete orbital solution of the lens system. It is found that the event was produced by a binary lens located in the Galactic bulge with a distance of 6.7 +/- 0.3 kpc from the Earth. The individual lens components with masses 0.9 +/- 0.3 M-circle dot and 0.5 +/- 0.1 M-circle dot are separated with a semi-major axis of a = 2.5 +/- 1.0 AU and orbiting each other with a period P = 3.1 +/- 1.3 yr. This event demonstrates that it is possible to extract detailed information about binary lens systems from well-resolved lensing light curves.</P>
