A REST-based Information Retrieval in a Hybrid SaaS Architecture
Krislan B. Ong,Gi-Weon Kim,Woo-Yong Son,Jung-Gil Song 한국정보기술학회 2009 한국정보기술학회논문지 Vol.7 No.3
Software-as-a-solution is gaining traction in the enterprise because unlike traditional enterprise software it permits them to leverage the software functionality without the burden of deploying and managing the software themselves. The adoption however is limited mostly to Small-to-Medium enterprises. Large enterprises are skeptical on moving their data out from their premise and giving up control to SaaS providers. This paper focuses on designing an extended architecture for SaaS that will allow enterprises to have their data sit on their premises but would still be able to take advantage of the services delivered on-the-cloud. This architecture however poses a big challenge on how to efficiently retrieve informationfrom indexing the documents and searching the index. Thus we will provide a framework to search and discover using interoperable index and search standards with RESTful web services by using open source technologies such as Lucene, Search-and-Retrieve via URL and Context Query Language.
AJAX-enabled Client Authentication in an Extended SaaS Architecture using Profile Binding
Dong-Soo Jeong,Krislan B. Ong,Gi-Weon Kim,Jung-Gil Song 한국정보기술학회 2009 한국정보기술학회논문지 Vol.7 No.4
The majority of security attacks emanate from a weak authentication system deployed in the application. A strong authentication scheme is critical especially in an on-demand application such as Software-as-a-Service to ward off possible security threats. In this paper, we propose an unobtrusive Ajax-enabled authentication framework based on profile binding. We use the client’s profile, the client’s IP address and session time stamp as variables for the cryptographic binding. Several security standards are combined such as Message Authentication Code, S/Key OTP and SSL to provide a robust authentication framework. The proposed authentication framework will then be used in an extended SaaS model which is an alternative solution to security challenge confronting many SaaS providers.
A Framework for Evaluation of Social Media in a Distributed Environment
Ronald S. Cordova,Krislan B. Ong,Jin-Young Jung,Gi-Weon Kim,Jung-Gil Song 한국정보기술학회 2008 한국정보기술학회논문지 Vol.6 No.6
As the availability of user-generated content increases, the task of identifying high-quality content in sites based on user contributions from social media sites becomes increasingly important. Social media provide a range of applications and services available to support communications, collaboration, and information sharing within a community. This paper proposes a framework for efficient evaluation of social media in a distributed environment. Our framework uses Web 2.0 technologies that were tested and implemented in Agriculture domain. It takes into account the rating in terms of the reliability of content and additional information about the expert who contributed the content. Our framework for the computation of rating is presented based on the votes of users to a particular content, comment and answers. Ratings of the submitted contents, referred links that were found very useful, comments on other contents and reliability of the answers to questions are being computed to get the expert’s overall rating. We illustrate the efficiency of our rating scheme when using Bayesian average rather than Arithmetic average in the calculation of the rating. Also, the user’s rating as an expert is reflected in our system via automated mechanism for user’s expertise calculation. The rating of contents and experts can be very useful in locating high quality content.
