Flow-based Service Discipline for TCP Streaming in Advanced IP Router
Vol.2009 No.-
Video-sharing applications using TCP (called "TCP streaming") like YouTube have been increased recently. However, it is difficult for the existing IP network to guarantee QoS of TCP streaming. So far, to achieve the QoS enhancement per flow, we have proposed the class-based output buffer control mechanism in QoS-aware router. In this paper, to guarantee more sophisticated QoS for TCP streaming, we propose the mechanism which calculates transmission bandwidth and buffer volume preferentially available (called "basic volume") according to active flows' condition estimated by measuring transmitted packets per flow. Furthermore, by computer simulation, the effectiveness of our proposal is verified.
Advanced Inter/Intra-Stream FEC Method in Distributed Multi-Server Network
Vol.2009 No.-
To establish seamless and highly robust contents distribution technology in the environment of so-called multi-server contents distribution network, we have proposed the new concept, Inter-Stream FEC, that means data recovery method between several streams by introducing redundant parity streams generated by inter-stream cooperation. In this paper, we extensively improve the original Inter-Stream FEC method. We focus on the recovery failure events in the original method, especially the events due to packet loss on the same link, and propose its remedy. The proposed method makes existing FEC and Inter-Stream FEC cooperate deeply and this leads to higher loss recovery ratio. Besides, we evaluate the original method and the extensively proposed method through computer simulation.
Autonomous Burst Access Control Cooperated with Adjacent Nodes in Wireless Multihop Networks
Vol.2009 No.-
The authors propose the packet transfer scheduling method to perform efficient data transfer in wireless multibop networks. In the proposed method, we set packet transfer rate, mainly according to the success rate of packet transfer at the sender nodes. In this paper, we consider the packet loads at the receiver nodes, and feed the load information back to the upstream nodes. Moreover, we assign channel resources equally to sender nodes that transfer packet to the same receiver node. Through these proposals, we enhance the network capacity keeping the throughput fairness between nodes.
A Construction Method of Cluster-tree Topology Suitable for Dense ZigBee Network
Vol.2009 No.-
In dense wireless sensor networks (WSNs), packet collisions between sensor nodes degrade the efficiency on power consumption and gathering measured data. In this paper, we focus on IEEE802.15.4/ZigBee, the standardized technologies suitable for WSNs, and form a dense sensor network with cluster-tree topology. We propose a construction method of cluster-tree with multiple channels. The performance of the method is evaluated using computer simulation.

Optical WDM networks have been studied as future promising networks for high quality multimedia services like forthcoming 8K super high definition video applications. In extremely higher data rate transmission systems like 160Gbps ones, physical impairments degrade optical signal more seriously. We especially pay attention to Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) which is the typical physical impairment. In this paper, we propose a new routing method for multi-fiber WDM networks that reduces influence of physical impairments and makes loss probability improve. Its performance is evaluated by computer simulations.
Cluster-based Routing Method for Wireless Sensor Networks with Heterogeneous Node Types
Vol.2009 No.-
With advances of low-cost hardware such as CMOS cameras and microphones, multimedia sensor networking technologies have developed very rapidly in recent years. Maintaining higher alive node ratio and wider coverage area is indispensable for ubiquitous retrieval of multimedia contents such as video and audio streams, still images and scalar sensor data from the environment. To achieve those requirements, sensor network systems are gradually moving into heterogeneous designs, incorporating a variety of sensor nodes. In this paper, we propose a new cluster-based routing method for wireless sensor networks with heterogeneous node types. It selects cluster heads considering not only transmission power and residual energy of each node but also those of its adjacent nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed method significantly increases network lifetime and also maintains high coverage rate in comparison with existing methods.
