        Background : About 30% of patients in the hospital are under nourishment. A large portion of people are undernourished when they are admitted to the hospital and in the majority of these, undernutrition develops further while in hospital. Patient-Generated subjective global assessment(PG-SGA), a method of nutritional assessment based on clinical judgment, has been widely used to assess the nutritional status of adults for both clinical and research purposes. Modified PG-SGA can be used as a nutrition screening tool, and a comprehensive nutrition assessment is desirable for those who are malnourished. The purpose of this study is to develop a simple, reliable and valid nutrition screening program(NSP). Methods : We applied the nutrition screening program(NSP) to adult inpatients who are at risk of malnutrition using the Modified Patient-Generated subjective global assessment(PG-SGA) and objective assessment(electrical medical record data). Results : Therefore simple and beneficial NSP is developed for patients with severe malnutrition. Using NSP. nutritional information of the severe malnutrition patient should be shared with the physicians and they should be taken care of by clinical dietitians to improve their nutritional status. Conclusion : The Modified PG-SGA and nutrition screening tool are simple, reliable and valid nutrition screening program(NSP).

        김치를 이용한 타블렛 조성물이 고지방식이로 유도된 흰쥐의 비만 억제에 미치는 효과

        동결건조된 김치분말을 주성분으로 하여 부형제로 glucose, 고춧가루, 식이섬유소 등을 혼합하여 제조된 김치 타블렛 제조용 조성물(KTC)의 항비만 효과를 알아보기 위하여 4주령의 SD계 수컷 흰쥐를 식이에 따라 정상대조군, 고지방식이군, 고지방 식이에 KTC 5%와 10% 첨가군의 4군으로 나누어 8주간 사육하고 체중, 피하지방, 혈당, 혈 중 지질농도, 간조직의 지질 농도와 HMG-CoA reductase 활성, 분변으로의 지질 배설능 등을 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 고지방 식이에 KTC 첨가량이 늘어날수록 흰쥐의 혈중 중성지질, 총콜레스테롤치를 농도 의존적으로 감소시켜 혈액내 지방의 축적을 저해하였고, 복부 피하지방의 양은 KTC 5%, 10% 첨가군이 고지방군에 비해 13.6%, 21.3% 감소시켰다(p<0.05). 또한 간과 심장, 고환의 중성지방, 콜레스테롤 농도는 KTC 첨가군이 고지방식이군에 비해 농도 의존적으로 감소하였고(p<0.05), HMG-CoA reductase 활성 및 혈당 농도를 고지방식이군에 비해 유의적으로 감소시켜 KTC가 흰쥐의 비만을 억제함을 확인할 수 있었다. Fifty rats were classified to 4 groups: normal diet (ND), high fat diet (HFD), HFD+KTC 5% and HFD+KTC 10% for feeding experiments. This research showed that the final weight, weight gain, food efficiency ratio and organ weight were decreased by the addition of KTC compared to those of HFD group. Amount of subcutaneous fat of KTC groups were 13.6% and 21.3%, respectively. The plasma triglyceride concentration of KTC groups was lower than that of high fat diet group. Plasma cholesterol concentration of all four groups were not significantly different. HDL-cholesterol concentration of KTC groups was higher than those of high fat diet group. In addition, triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations in the liver and heart were reduced by the addition of KTC. Moreover, triglyceride concentration of fecal and hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity were increased in KTC group. These results suggested that KTC might be useful for obesity control and good source of functional kimchi tablet.

        Ascorbic acid 및 citric acid 처리에 따른 홍삼추출물의 페놀성 성분 및 ginsenoside 함량 변화

        본 연구에서는 수삼을 식품에 쓰이는 산화 방지제인 ascorbic acid와 citric acid로 처리하여 홍삼을 제조한 후 활성성분인 페놀화합물과 진세노사이드의 추출물내 함량 변화를 HPLC를 이용하여 살펴보았다. 분석결과 citric acid 처리 홍삼에서 esculetin과 quercetin 함량이 무처리 홍삼에 비하여 각각 3.5 배, 2.0 배 증가하였고 ginsenoside 함량 역시 citric acid 처리시의 Rg₃, Rd, Rh₂ 증가량이 ascobic acid 처리시에 비하여 높았다. 따라서 인삼추출물의 이들 특정활성성분 강화를 위하여는 citric acid 처리가 효과적인 것으로 판단된다. The changes that would occur in a content of five phenolic ingredients and eight ginsenosides in acid-treatedred ginseng extracts were measured in this study. Acid-treated-red ginseng was prepared by treating with 1 M ascorbic acid or citric acid for 20 min. As a result, the contents of esculetin and quercetin in citric acid-treated-red ginseng increased by 3.5 times and 2.0 times, respectively, compared with control red ginseng. However, all phenolic ingredients decreased after treatment with ascorbic acid. In addition, the contents of ginsenoside Rg₃, Rh₂, Rd increased but those of Rb1, Rc, Re, Rf, Rg₁ decreased after acid treatment. Although these tendency of results are similar, the rate of change of ginsenosides in citric acid-treated-red ginseng was higher than in ascorbic acid-treated-red ginseng. These results indicated that citric acid is more effective in the conversion of ginseng ingredients than ascorbic acid.

        Cleavable Complex Formation as a Major Cellular Process in the Antibacterizal Action of Quinolones

        Quinolone antibiotics are DNA gyrase inhibitors, but their bactericidal action seems to involve more than the inhibition of DNA gyrase activity. Hence, the potentially crucial factors among possible mechanisms of quinolone action; cleavable complex fomlation, inhibition of DNA synthesis, and induction of SOS response were investigated. These parameters were measured in an Escherichio coli strain exposed to quinolones in the logarithmic growth phase; and correlated with the bactericidal activity of quinolones. Cleavable complex formation proved to be the factor most related to bactericidal action. Inhibition of DNA synthesis was substantially correlated with bactericidal activity, but induction of SOS response was least correlated with bactericidal activity. Therefore, it was concluded that quinolones exert bactericidal action primarily through cleavable complex formation, and subsequent unknown cellular processes together with inhibition of DNA synthesis contribute to the bactericidal activity of quinolones.

        인삼에 함유된 페놀성 성분의 신경세포보호 및 항염증 효과

        백삼 및 백삼에 함유된 페놀성 성분 6 종의 산화적 손상에 대한 신경세포보호효과와 LPS로 유도된 대식세포에서의 NO 생성억제효과를 검정한 결과 백삼 추출물은 두가지 모두에서 농도의존적인 효과를 나타내었다. 백삼에 함유된 페놀성 성분 중에는 cinnamic acid 및 maltol이 우수한 신경세포보호활성을 나타내었고 NO 생성억제효과는 ascorbic acid 및 cinnamic acid가 높았다. 또한 페놀성성분의 백삼내 함량을 정량한 결과 ascorbic acid, cinnamic acid, esculetin가 다른 성분들에 비하여 비교적 많이 함유되어 있었으며 이를 종합하여 볼 때 백삼의 신경보호효과 및 항염증효과에는 높은 함량 및 우수한 활성을 보이는 성분인 cinnamic aicd가 크게 기여하는 것으로 판단된다. The six phenolic-compound (ascorbic acid, maltol, esculetin, p-coumaric acid, cinnamic acid, and quercetin) contents of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer were determined in this study. The results showed that the ascorbic acid, cinnamic acid, and esculetin contents of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer are higher than those of the other ingredients. Among these compounds, ascorbic acid and cinnamic acid significantly inhibited LPS-induced nitric oxide production in the RAW 264.7 cells. Cinnamic acid also effectively inhibited the oxidative damages in the human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. Although this study examined the neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory activities using only one kind of cells, its results suggest that cinnamic acid potently contributes to the neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer.

        Multiple eosinophilic granulomas after vaccination and antiparasitic treatment in a 2-month-old Turkish Angora cat

        A 2-month-old Turkish Angora cat presented with multiple skin masses after first vaccination and spot-on antiparasitic treatment. There was no hair loss or pruritis, and tests revealed negative for the feline leukemia and immunodeficiency viruses. Biopsy revealed densely packed eosinophils in sparse dermal tissue with a few mast cells. These lesions did not respond promptly to prednisolone treatment, but they regressed without relapse over the following month, despite sequential vaccinations and anti-parasitic treatment. The present case is interesting considering the rarity of multiple eosinophilic granuloma development in a very young cat with a recent history of vaccination and antiparasitic treatment.

        마라소스 주원료인 고추 및 산초 에탄올추출물의 항산화 및 항비만 효과

        본 연구에서는 in vitro에서 중국 사천지역 고추와 산초 에탄올추출물의 항산화 효능 확인 후, 고지방식이에 의해 유도된 비만 마우스를 이용하여 중국 사천지역 고추, 산초, 고추와 산초복합물 투여 후 체중, 간과 복부 피하지방 무게, 혈중지질 함량을 측정하여 항비만 기능성 소재로서의 가능성 여부를 조사하였다. 실험군은 일반식이군, 고지방식이군, 고지방식이에 고추 및 산초, 고추와 산초복합물, HCA(hydroxyl citric acid)를 경구투여한 군의 6군으로 분류하여 8주간 사육 후, 체중, 간, 피하지방, 혈중지질 함량을 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 고지방식이만을 섭취한 군은 일반식이군과 비교하여 체중, 간, 복부 피하지방, 혈장지질 농도가 현저하게 증가하였다. 고지방식이에 고추와 산초 에탄올추출물을 경구투여한 군에서 8주 후 고지방군에 비해 유의적으로 체중을 감소시켰고, 복부 피하지방 양은 고지방군 3.77 g, 고추군, 산초군, 고추와 산초복합군은 각각 0.88 g, 0.9 g, 0.97 g으로 농도 의존적으로 복부 피하지방 양을 감소시켰다(P<0.05). 혈중 중성지질, 총콜레스테롤을 농도 의존적으로 감소시켜 혈액 내 지방의 축적을 저해하였고, HDL 콜레스테롤 농도가 고지방군에 비해 고추, 산초 및 고추와 산초복합군이 농도 의존적으로 증가하여(P<0.05) 조직 중의 콜레스테롤을 간으로 운반하여 콜레스테롤의 분해 및 배설을 촉진하여 조직 중의 콜레스테롤량을 감소시켜, 고추 및 산초에탄올추출물 투여가 마우스의 비만을 억제함을 확인할 수 있었다. This study was performed to investigate anti-oxidant of red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract, main ingredient of mara source. Anti-obesity effects of red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract were investigated with mice fed high fat diet for 8 weeks. Sixty mice were classified to 6 groups of ND (normal diet), HFD (high fat diet), RP (high fat diet+red pepper (0.1 g/60 kg)), CP (high fat diet+Chinese pepper (0.1 g/60 kg)), RCP (high fat diet+red pepper : Chinese pepper=1:1 (0.1 g/60 kg)), HCA (high fat diet+HCA (0.1 g/60 kg)) experiments. This research showed that final weight, weight gain, food efficiency ratio, and river weight were decreased by the addition of red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract comparing to those of HFD group. The plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol concentration of red pepper ethanol extract and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract group was lower than that of high fat diet group. HDL-cholesterol concentration of red pepper ethanol extract and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract group was higher than those of high fat diet group. These results suggested that red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract might be useful for obesity control and good source of functional materials.
