<P>A neutralizing epitope fragment of ApxIIA toxin (ApxIIA#5) of the Korean <I>Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae</I> serotype 2 strain was expressed and immobilized on the cell surface of <I>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</I> for efficient vaccine development. Expression of ApxIIA#5 was confirmed by Western blot analysis using cell-wall proteins, and the surface display of ApxIIA#5 was further visualized under confocal microscopy. Quantitative ELISA revealed that the recombinant ApxIIA#5 directed to the cell surface consisted of approximately 16% cell-wall proteins, estimated to be 35 mg of ApxIIA#5 protein per liter of cultured cells. An immunoassay revealed that antigen-specific antibodies against ApxIIA#5 were present in the sera of mice fed recombinant ApxIIA#5-expressing yeast, but not in mice fed the wild-type nor the vector-only transformant. Moreover, the mice fed the recombinant epitope-expressing yeast were protected from injection of a lethal dose of <I>A. pleuropneumoniae</I>.</P>
Magnetic Abrasive Polishing for Internal Face of STS Tube using Sludge Abrasive Grain
Kim, Hee-Nam,Soh, Dea-Wha,Hong, Sang-Jeen,Lee, Byung-Woo The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2005 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.6 No.3
In this paper, we have investigated the characteristics of the magnetic abrasive using sludge on polishing of internal finishing of seamless stainless steel (STS304) tube applying magnetic abrasive polishing. Either white alumina (WA) or green carborundum (GC) grain was used to resin sludge at a low temperature, and the sludge of magnetic abrasive powder was synthesized and crushed into 200 meshes. Surface roughness was measured before and after polishing, and more than $40\%$ of improvement of surface roughness was achieved when WA grain was used under a specific condition. Even though some degree of surface roughness due to deeper scratches still exist, but the result showed a prospective magnetic abrasive polishing using sludge with WA or GC grains.

<P>High-efficiency organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells utilizing a poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) pillar layer containing ZnSe quantum dots (QDs) were fabricated by using a mixed solution method. Scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy images showed that the ZnSe QDs were dispersed in the P3HT layer. The power conversion efficiency of the OPV cells with a P3HT pillar layer containing ZnSe QDs was as much as 100% higher than that of the OPV cells with a planar layer due to an enhancement of the photon-harvesting ability of the congregated P3HT particles containing ZnSe QDs and to an increase of the interfacial region for efficient charge transport.</P>

Hydrometallurgical process, which is one of the recycling method of EAFD in zinc, is a process to recover metallic crystal form that deposited on the cathod through electrolytic extraction by leaching valuable metals in appropriate solvent. Still, there is a lot of variable at electrowinning process, such as initial pH, space between electrode, voltage, current, cathod, or anode, Thus, many studies have been conducted previously. In this study, the consideration of optimistic condition in electrowinning process to recover the valuable metal in EAFD have been carried. The extraction amount by changing pH shows increase according to high initial pH, also, the alteration of extraction amount by controling the space between electrode, voltage or current has been measured. The difference of efficiency represent by decrease of electromotive force, sudden loss of voltage under specific condition, and using platinum as electrode shows most stable extraction. Furthermore, when distance between electrode are too close, the extracted zinc contact with anode, which make recovery difficult. The analysis result of zinc metallic crystal which been recovered draws spherical and cylindrical shapes are scattered and mixed, and consequence of EDX, content of zinc appear about 60%.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The electrical and chemical stability of solution-processed indium zinc oxide (IZO) channel thin-film transistors (TFTs) were engineered via a synergistic approach of annealing duration and self-combustion process. In particular, the amorphous IZO TFTs that were thermally treated at 400°C for 3h using the specific precursor combination to generate internal self-combustion energy showed the best electrical performance [high saturation mobility (<I>μ</I> SAT)=2.7cm2/Vs] and stability [low threshold voltage shift (Δ<I>V</I> TH) under positive bias stress of 10.5V] owing to the formation of oxide films with excellent metal–oxide–metal (M–O–M) bonds, fewer impurities, and an amorphous phase compared to IZO TFTs using other precursor formulas and annealing times. Longer annealing times led to a saturated M–O bond ratio and crystallization via extreme thermal annealing, which induced electrical degradation (low <I>μ</I> SAT and high Δ<I>V</I> TH) of IZO TFTs. In the wet chemical patterning of electrodes, conventional acidic and basic wet etchants cause severe damage to the surfaces of the IZO channels; thus, insufficiently annealed IZO TFTs exhibited considerable degradation in terms of their on-current level and mobility. Alternatively, the TFTs subjected to an excessively long-term thermal annealing showed only a moderate decrease in mobility with the formation of small nanocrystals.</P>

Kim, Il-Suk,Jin, Sang-Keun,Min, Joong-Seok,Shin, Dea-Keun,Hur, Sun-Jin,Hah, Kyung-Hee,Lee, Mooha 한국국제농업개발학회 2005 韓國國際農業開發學會誌 Vol.17 No.1
The pH value of both muscle stored at 4℃ gradually fell during postmortem storage and that of breast and leg muscle reach to 5.9 and 6.0, respectively. While, that of the chicken muscle stored at 30℃ decreased rapidly from 6.8 to 5.6 in breast muscle and 6.9 to 5.7 in leg muscle. After 4℃ 8 hours of slaughter, ultimate pH value was attained. No apparent change was observed in the extractability of myofibrillar proteins during 12 hours of storage at 4℃ and the first 2 hours of storage at 30℃ But, after 2 hours of postmortem storage at 30℃ the extractability decrease rapidly. The change occuring in the myofibrillar protein of both muscle during postmortem storage was the gradual degradation of troponin T. The relative weight of troponin T in the myofibrillar proteins extract decreased during postmortem aging. Myofibrils from pectoralis major and adductor longus muscle aged at 30℃ (higher storage temperature) illustrated the disapperance of troponin T are caused by the action of endogenous proteolytic enzymes during the storage of the chicken meat. 30,000 dalton component from chicken muscle during the postmortem storage at 4℃ and 30℃, it was observed that there was a simultaneous increment of a 30,000 dalton component during postmortem storage in myofibrils isolated from leg and breast muscle. the change occuring in the myofibrillar proteins of chicken muscle during postmortem storage was the gradual degradution of troponin T and the increment of the 30,000 dalton component.

In this lysimeter experiment, temporal changes of water percolation rate, irrigation requirement and ${No}_3$--N leaching were investigated under different cultural practices that were no-till direct seeding on flooded paddy (NTDSF), till direct seeding on flooded paddy (TDSF), and transplanting. The highest water percolation rate of 3,001 l/$m^2$ was measured in NTDSF. Others were 2,551 l/$m^2$ and 2,210 l/$m^2$ in TDSF and transplanting. Water percolation rate in NTDSF and TDSF was increased by 36% and 15% compared to transplanting. Water percolation rates in all cultural practices were increased remarkably from the reproductive growth stage and relatively large amount of water loss through percolation was measured even after the reproductive growth stage. A total irrigation requirement was 3,469 l/$m^2$ in NTDSF and 2,898 l/$m^2$ in TDSF. That was equivalent to 45% and 21 % of increase compared to 2,389 l/$m^2$ in transplanting. The largest ${No}_3$--N leaching through the entire rice growing period was 701 mg/$m^2$ in NTDSF and was followed by 494 mg/$m^2$ in TDSF and 465 mg/$m^2$ in transplanting. The ratios to the total amount of ${No}_3$--N leaching at the vegetative growth stage, reproductive growth stage and ripening stage were 31 %, 41 % and 28% in NTDSF; 21 %, 48% and 31 % in TDSF; and 18%, 48% and 35 % in transplanting.
