The fracture toughness is evaluated by using CT(compact tension) and 3PB(thress point bending) specimens of A1 alloys for propulsive engine. To evaluate the static fracture toughness, strain gage method is used. The static fracture toughness obtained from the strain measurement is compared with the results by ASTM standard and FEM analysis. For the reliable evaluation of fracture toughness, strain gages are attached at various positions.
한약재가 Aspergillus parasiticus R-716의 生育과 aflatoxin 生成에 미치는 影響

한의원에서 오래 前부터 사용되어 오고 있는 몇 종의 한약재를 구입하여 이들을 chloroform으로 추출하여 추출물을 조제한 다음 공시균(Aspergillus parasiticus R-716)의 生育과 aflatoxin 生成에 미치는 影響을 조사한 결과 다음과 같은 結論을 얻었다. 1. 목단 추출물 첨가군에서 가장 현저하게 공시균의 生育이 저해되었고 그외의 첨가군에서도 강황, 봉출, 향부자, 백작액, 백출의 順으로 저해되었다. 2. Aflatoxin 生成은 백출과 강황 추출물 첨가군에서만 저해되었고, 나머지 첨가군에서는 오히려 증가되거나 효과가 적었다. 3. 백출 추출물 0.2ml첨가시 3일째부터 菌體 生成을 시작하여 9일째에 0.953g/30ml이었고, aflatoxin 함량은 792㎍으로서 대조군에 비해 약 50%가 감소되었다. 菌體 g當 aflatoxin 함량은 992㎍으로서 대조군의 1,467㎍에 비해 역시 크게 감소되었으며 NADPH oxidase 活性은 대조군보다 높아 백출 추출물이 공시균의 生育과 aflatoxin 生成에 저해 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. The possible effects of some oriental herbs, which have been used to treat cancerlike disease in Korea, on growth and aflatoxin production by Aspergillus parasiticus R-716 were investigated. Zedoaria rhizoma, Curcuma longa, Cyperus rotundus, Angelica gigas, Paeonia albiflora, Paeonia mountan, Atractylis ovata, and Pulsatilla koreana were extracted with chloroform. Among them the extract of Paeonia mountan was remarkably effective on the growth inhibition, and Curcuma longa, Zedoaria rhizoma, Cyperus rotundus, Paeonia albiflora, Atractylis ovata also inhibited the growth. The extract of Atractylis ovata and Curcuma longa, also inhibited the aflatoxin production but the others showed no effect at all or sometimes stimulated effect. With the addition of 0.2ml extract of Atractylis ovata in 30ml SLS medium, the growth was delayed for about 2 days, and after 9 days, mycelium weight was 0.953g, and total aflatoxin was reduced 50%(792㎍)of that produced in the control(1547㎍). Aflatoxin per mycelium weight was decreased 32%(992㎍)of that produced in the control(1467㎍), but NADPH oxidase was higher as compared to the control. The extract of Atractylis ovata appeared to have a inhibitory effect on the growth and aflatoxin production of Aspergillus parasiticus R-716.
Efficacy of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection for Leukocytospermia

White blood cells (WBCs) are present in most human ejaculates, but abnormally high concentration of seminal leukocytes map reflect an underlying pathological condition. The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined leukocytospermia as status of more than 10^(6) WBC/mL of semen. The purpose of this study was firstly, to compare the outcomes between conventional IVF and ICSl in leukocytospermia, and secondly, to investigate whether ICSI may be an alternation treatment for patients with leukocytospermia. Total 346 cycles of conventional IVF and ICSI candidates underwent IVF cycles at Eulji Hospital Infertility Clinic. Semen Parameters including concentration, motility, morphology of spermatozoa and concentration of leukocytes were assessed from the raw ejaculates. There was no difference in sperm concentration, motility and morphology. The rates of fertilization and good embryo development from ICSI were significantly higher than those from conventional IVF in leukocytospermia (60.4% & 32.5% respectively for ICSI group and 44.4% & 28.5%, respectively for IVF group, P<0.001). The pregnancy rate after ICSI was also higher than that from conventional IVF (34.0% vs 29.1%. P<0.05). These results indicate that the presence of seminal leukocyes (>1×10^(6) WBC/mL of semen) is adversely related with fertilization, embryo development and pregnancy rate. Therfore the measurement of seminal leukocytes in routine semen analysis appears to be of prognostic value with regard to male fertilizing potential. In conclusion. it is suggested that ICSI is an alternative choice of treatment for patients with leukocytospermia.
An Experimental Study on Low Cycle Fatigue of Inconel 617 Super Alloy

<P>Low cycle fatigue tests are performed on the Inconel 617 super alloy that be used for structural material of hot gas casing for gas turbine. The relations between strain energy density and number of cycles to failure are examined in order to predict the low cycle fatigue life of Inconel 617 super alloy. The lives predicted by strain energy methods are found to coincide with experimental data and results obtained from the Coffin-Manson method. And, the cyclic behavior of the Inconel 617 super alloy is characterized by cyclic hardening with increasing number of cycles.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Based on the preliminary design of the ITER blanket shield block (SB) #8, the full scale prototype (FSP) has been manufactured and tested in accordance with pre-qualification program, and related R&D was performed to resolve the technical issues of fabrication. The objective of the SB pre-qualification program is to demonstrate the acceptable manufacturing quality by successfully passing the formal test program.</P> <P>316L(N)-IG stainless steel forging blocks with 1.80L×1.12W×0.43t (m) were developed by using an electric arc furnace, and as a result, the material properties were satisfied with technical specification. In the course of applying conventional fabrication techniques such as cutting, milling, drilling and welding of the forged stainless steel block for the manufacturing of the SB #8 FSP, several technical problems have been addressed. And also, the hydraulic connector of cross-forged material re-melted by electro slag or vacuum arc requires the application of advanced joining techniques such as automatic bore TIG and friction welding. Many technical issues – drilling, welding, slitting, non-destructive test and so on – have been raised during manufacturing. Associated R&D including the computational simulation and coupon testing has been done in collaboration with relevant industries in order to resolve these engineering issues.</P> <P>This paper provides technical key issues and their possible resolutions addressed during the manufacture and formal test of the SB #8 FSP, and related R&D.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> 316L(N)-IG forged steel was successfully fabricated and qualified. </LI> <LI> Related R&D activities were implemented to resolve the fabrication issues. </LI> <LI> SB #8 FSP was successfully manufactured with conventional fabrication techniques. </LI> <LI> All of the validation tests were carried out and met the acceptance criteria. </LI> </UL> </P>

In this study, the intrinsic static/dynamic fracture toughness of Al 7175-T74 is evaluated from the apparent static/ dynamic toughness of notched specimen. The critical average stress fracture model is suggested to establish the relationship to predict the intrinsic fracture toughness from the apparent fracture toughness of a notched specimen. The critical average stress fracture model is established using the relation between the notch root radius and the effective distance calculated by finite clement analysis. Also, effective distance is applied 10 estimate the failure criterion for the combustion pipe with notch. It is conclude that the true fracture toughness can be estimated from test results of apparent fracture toughness measured by using a notched specimen. Also, the effective distance can be used to evaluate the failure criterion of structure with notch.

To evaluate the bending fatigue strength of automotive bevel gear, fatigue test and analysis are performed. Test fixture of double tooth concept is considered to obtain the results of the reliable fatigue test. Fatigue life of automotive bevel gear is evaluated by Weibull analysis. To compare the test results and to verify the fatigue analysis procedures, fatigue analyses are carried out. Structural and fatigue analyses are performed using ABAQUS and FE-Safe codes, respectively. Fatigue analysis results show that fatigue life and crack initiation site are coincided with test results and then fatigue analysis procedures are verified. And, fatigue analysis for random loading is performed.
