The present study was conducted to investigate the role of thyroid hormones in the regulation of gene expression of calbindin-$D_{28k}$ (CaBP-D28K) in the chicken. By employing slot blot and RIA analyses, levels of CABP-D28K mRNA and CaBP-D28K protein in the intestine, kidney, cerebellum and liver were measured 6 and 12 h after i.m. injection of 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$ [1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$; 250 ng/chick] and 3, 5, 3'-triiodothyronine ($T_3$; 500 ng/chick) in one-day-old chicks. The abundant messages of CaBP-D28K mRNA were detected in the intestine, kidney and cerebellum while there was little message in the liver. After 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ treatment (6 + 12 hours), levels of CaBP-D28K mRNA increased in the intestine, but there was no change in the mRNA levels in the kidney and cerebellum. Although $T_3$ alone had no effect on CaBP-D28K mRNA levels, simultaneous administration of $T_3$ enhanced the 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ effect of levels of CaBP-D28K mRNA in the intestine both 6 and 12 h post-treatment, and in the kidney 12 h post-treatment. At a protein level, co-treatment with 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ and $T_3$ elicited a significant increase in CaBP-D28K expression in the intestine 12 h post-treatment, as compared to treatment with only 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$, whereas no differences were observed in the CaBP-D28K protein levels in the kidney and cerebellum. These results suggest that thyroid hormones may play a synergistic role with 1, 25 $(OH)_2D_3$ for CaBP-D28K gene expression in the intestine and kidney in chicks.

<P>In the KSTAR Tokamak, a 'Tangential Thomson Scattering' (TTS) diagnostic system has been designed and installed to measure electron density and temperature profiles. In the edge system, TTS has 12 optical fiber bundles to measure the edge profiles with 10-15 mm spatial resolution. These 12 optical fibers and their spatial resolution are not enough to measure the pedestal width with a high accuracy but allow observations of L-H transition or H-L transitions at the edge. For these measurements, the prototype ITER edge Thomson Nd:YAG laser system manufactured by JAEA in Japan is installed. In this paper, the KSTAR TTS system is briefly described and some TTS edge profiles are presented and compared against the KSTAR Charge Exchange Spectroscopy and other diagnostics. The future upgrade plan of the system is also discussed in this paper.</P>

An ultrahigh density optical disk head which utilizes evanescent light (near-field light) had been designed to enhance the near-field optical wave for the throughput increment using the surface plasmon polariton resonance effect between the light inside the near-field optical head and nano-fabricated corrugated metal thin film. The theoretical analysis is discussed with the emphasis on the two- and three-dimensional simulation using finite difference time domain method. It is also experimentally shown that the near-field light enhancement in a waveguide of a clad covered with corrugated gold thin film was observed and that the near-field light enhancement in a waveguide without the film was not. If the corrugation pitch and the focused laser wavelength used with self-aligned microlens are designed properly, more than 20% throughput will be realized using nanometer fabricated metallic grating.
Novel Low Cost Ripple Based Controlled Pulse Width Modulator for Fast Transient Response
S.Hirose,K.Ono,T.Sato,T.Nabeshima,K.Nishijima 전력전자학회 2011 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2011 No.5
This paper presents novel pulse width modulation circuit for fast transient response. In the proposed modulator, C-MOS logic inverters are used instead of high speed comparators. Four types of new modulator are proposed and operating principle described in detail. The proposed modulator is applied to a buck converter, and steady state characteristics and frequency response of the proposed modulator are measured with the bread board circuit. From the experimental result, it is found that the proposed modulator has the derivative characteristics as hysteretic PWM controller that has good transient performance. Excellent load and line regulation are obtained. By using C-MOS inverter, compared with conventional hysteretic PWM controller with fast comparator, cost is reduced to one-fifth.
Real-Space Imaging of the Atomic Structure of Organic–Inorganic Perovskite

<P>Organic–inorganic perovskite is a promising class of materials for photovoltaic applications and light emitting diodes. However, so far commercialization is still impeded by several drawbacks. Atomic-scale effects have been suggested to be possible causes, but an unequivocal experimental view at the atomic level is missing. Here, we present a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy study of single crystal methylammonium lead bromide CH3NH3PbBr3. Topographic images of the in situ cleaved perovskite surface reveal the real-space atomic structure. Compared to the bulk we observe modified arrangements of atoms and molecules on the surface. With the support of density functional theory we explain these by surface reconstruction and a substantial interplay of the orientation of the polar organic cations (CH3NH3)+ with the position of the hosting anions. This leads to structurally and electronically distinct domains with ferroelectric and antiferroelectric character. We further demonstrate local probing of defects, which may also impact device performance.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2015/jacsat.2015.137.issue-51/jacs.5b08227/production/images/medium/ja-2015-08227g_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja5b08227'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
