Cost analysis of a commercial pyroprocess facility on the basis of a conceptual design in Korea

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study postulated a commercial pyroprocess facility (KAPF+: Korea Advanced Pyroprocess Facility Plus) with a processing capacity of 400tons/year as a cost object, and utilized an engineering cost estimation method based on a conceptual design to present the results of the total cost and unit cost estimation. According to the calculation results, the total cost and unit cost were calculated with k$779,386 and $781/kgHM, respectively. Moreover, the key cost driver was manifested as the operating and maintenance costs. In particular, equipment replacement cost was identified as an important cost driver. In addition, for an increasingly accurate cost estimation, the calculation results and allocation method of the indirect cost were reanalyzed. Finally the pyroprocess unit cost increased $5 when calculated the indirect cost using the labor time as the allocation standard. Meanwhile, the pyroprocess unit cost increased $22 as a result of allocating the indirect cost using the uniform labor cost as the cost allocation standard. Accordingly, an indirect cost allocation standard was manifested as the factor that exerts a significant effect on the pyroprocess unit cost.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Pyroprocess facility’s direct cost was calculated based on the conceptual design. </LI> <LI> The unit cost of pyroprocess was calculated as $781/kgHM. </LI> <LI> The unit cost was increased by 3%, considering labor allocation standards. </LI> <LI> The operating and maintenance cost was identified as a main cost driver. </LI> </UL> </P>
Near-threshold photoproduction of φ mesons from deuterium

We report the first, kinematically-complete measurement of the differential cross section of φ-meson photoproduction from deuterium near the production threshold for a proton using the CLAS detector and a tagged-photon beam in Hall B at Jefferson Lab. The measurement was carried out by a triple coincidence detection of a proton, K<SUP>+</SUP> and K<SUP>-</SUP> near the theoretical production threshold of 1.57 GeV. The extracted differential cross sections dσdt for the initial photon energy range of 1.65-1.75 GeV are consistent with predictions based on a quasifree mechanism. Our finding is different from recent LEPS results on φ-meson photoproduction from deuterium in a similar incident photon energy range, but in a different momentum transfer region.

NADH oxidase (Nox) catalyzes the conversion of NADH to NAD<SUP>+</SUP>. A previously uncharacterized Nox gene (LrNox) was cloned from Lactobacillus rhamnosus and overexpressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3). Sequence analysis revealed an open reading frame of 1359bp, capable of encoding a polypeptide of 453 amino acid residues. The molecular mass of the purified LrNox enzyme was estimated to be ∼50kDa by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and 100kDa by gel filtration chromatography, suggesting that the enzyme is a homodimer. The enzyme had optimal activity at pH 5.6 and temperature 65<SUP>o</SUP>C, and k<SUB>cat</SUB>/K<SUB>m</SUB> of 3.77x10<SUP>7</SUP>s<SUP>-1</SUP>M<SUP>-1</SUP>, the highest ever reported. Heat inactivation studies revealed that LrNox had high thermostability, with a half-life of 120min at 80<SUP>o</SUP>C. Molecular dynamics simulation studies shed light on the factors contributing to the high activity of LrNox. Although the properties of Nox from several microorganisms have been reported, this is the first report on the characterization of a recombinant H<SUB>2</SUB>O-forming Nox with high activity and thermostability. The characteristics of the LrNox enzyme could prove to be of interest in industrial applications such as NAD<SUP>+</SUP> regeneration.

Novel D- and L-4´-thioadenosine derivatives lacking the 4´-hydroxymethyl moiety were synthesized, starting from D-mannose and D-gulonic γ-lactone, respectively, as potent and selective species-independent A₃ adenosine receptor (AR) antagonists. Among the novel 4´-truncated 2-H nucleosides tested, a N^(6)-(3-chlorobenzyl) derivative 7c was the most potent at the human A₃ AR (K_(i) = 1.5 nM), but a N^(6)-(3-bromobenzyl) derivative 7d showed the optimal species-independent binding affinity.
The extraction of φ–N total cross section from d(γ,p<sup>K+</sup><sup>K−</sup>)n

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We report on the first measurement of the differential cross section of <I>φ</I>-meson photoproduction for the d(γ,p<SUP>K+</SUP><SUP>K−</SUP>)n exclusive reaction channel. The experiment was performed using a tagged-photon beam and the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. A combined analysis using data from the d(γ,p<SUP>K+</SUP><SUP>K−</SUP>)n channel and those from a previous publication on coherent <I>φ</I> production on the deuteron has been carried out to extract the φ−N total cross section, <SUB>σφN</SUB>. The extracted φ−N total cross section favors a value above 20 mb. This value is larger than the value extracted using vector-meson dominance models for <I>φ</I> photoproduction on the proton.</P>

Here the compressive plasticity of this BMG wassystematically studied by decreasing aspect ratio (height/diameter) of the samples in uniaxial compression and the brittleductiletransition occurs at an aspect ratio of 0.36. With the increase of the plasticity (decrease of the aspect ratio), the hardnessdecreases firstly and then increases, however, the relaxation enthalpy indicating its structure increases monotonically. Our findings provide a powerful experimental support for the application of brittle La-based BMGs.

<P>The temporal-spatial structures of plasma flows and turbulence around tearing mode islands are presented. The experiments were performed using Langmuir probe arrays in the edge plasmas of J-TEXT tokamak. The correlation analyses clearly show that the flows have similar structures of <I>m</I>/<I>n</I> = 3/1 as the magnetic island does (<I>m</I> and <I>n</I> are the poloidal and toroidal mode numbers, respectively). The sign of the potential fluctuations for the flows inverses and the powers significantly reduce at <I>q</I> = 3 surface. Approaching to the last closed flux surface for the magnetic islands, the radially elongated flow structure forms. The flows are concentrated near separatrix and show quadrupole structures. The turbulence is concentrated near X-point and partly trapped inside the magnetic islands.</P>
