        Force Production Patterns of Muscles Surrounding Knee During Running and Cutting Maneuvers: A Musculoskeletal Modeling Approach

        OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate the force production patterns of individual muscles surrounding the knee during running (RUN) and cutting (CUT) tasks. METHODS Thirteen women (24.2±3.5 yrs, 162.8±6.0 cm, 55.3±6.2 kg) performed a series of running and cutting tasks. Running and cutting motions were recorded using a motion capture system and ground reaction force (GRF) was recorded using a force plate. Three-dimensional knee angle, ground reaction force, and knee joint moment were calculated using Visual3D software. OpenSim musculoskeletal modeling software was used to calculate the force of individual muscles including the medial hamstring, biceps femoris long head, biceps femoris short head, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, gastrocnemius medialis, and gastrocnemius lateralis. All data were analyzed for loading response (or weight acceptance), mid-stance, and final push-off periods, respectively and were compared between two tasks. RESULTS At loading response: external rotation angle, medial and vertical GRFs, and valgus moment for the CUT task were greater than those of the RUN task. Compared to the RUN task, the CUT task showed: 1) an increase in lateral hamstring muscle force at weight acceptance, 2) a decrease in hamstring muscle force and an increase in medial vastus muscle force at mid-stance, and 3) an increase in lateral gastrocnemius muscle force at final push-off. CONCLUSIONS Selective force production patterns of muscles surrounding the knee seem to offset the external load caused by the cutting motion. We anticipate that our results will provide basic data for future training programs designed to prevent noncontact knee injuries.

      • Initial closed curve for active contour model on mesh

        The accurate margin line extraction is a crucial process in computer-aided orthodontics. Margin line is boundary line of treatment region. Though curvature field is traditionally used for detect feature line, different shapes and scanning noises make hard to detect margin line automatically. Thus current dental CAD systems mostly require the user interactive definition of points by the user. So, we also use interactive defined starting points by the user. In medical image processing, active contour model is used to extract feature line. However it doesn’t work when initial curve is improper. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel closed curve initialization algorithm that makes initial curve on mesh by using starting points. Some experiments show our initialization method is robust and fast.

      • Cross-linked highly sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) membranes prepared by <i>in-situ</i> casting and thiol-ene click reaction for fuel cell application

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>End-group cross-linked sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES) membranes were prepared using thiol capped SPAES (SH-SPAES) with different amounts of vinyl polysulfone (VPSf) as a polymeric cross-linker. The cross-linked membranes showed remarkably improved physicochemical stabilities compared to the corresponding linear SPAES membrane. Although the proton conductivity of the SPAES membrane composed of SPAES with the degree of sulfonation (DS) as 70 mol% could not be measured due to its low physical stability under the measurement condition, those of the cross-linked membranes were repeatedly evaluated due to the enhanced stability through the formation of cross-linked structures. The obtained proton conductivity values from cross-linked membranes are larger than those of the linear SPAES membrane which composed of SPAES with DS of 50 mol% having the ion exchange capacity (IEC) similar to that of the cross-linked membranes, especially at relative low humidity conditions. Furthermore, the fuel cell performance of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) prepared with the cross-linked membrane, showing the optimized physicochemical stabilities and proton conductivity exhibited a maximum power density of 692 mW cm<SUP>−2</SUP>, which was larger than that with Nafion 212 (603 mW cm<SUP>−2</SUP>) at 80 °C under fully humidified H<SUB>2</SUB>/Air condition.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Thiol group capped highly sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) and vinyl group containing poly sulfone were synthesized. </LI> <LI> End group cross-linked membranes were prepared by thiol-ene click reaction using polymeric cross-linker. </LI> <LI> Excellent physicochemical stability of end group cross-linked membranes. </LI> <LI> High proton conductivity of end group cross-linked membranes in low humidity condition. </LI> <LI> Outstanding cell performance of MEA prepared with end group cross-linked membrane. </LI> </UL> </P>

        컴퓨터를 이용한 의료 진단용 3차원 척추 제네릭 모델

        Medical image acquisition techniques such as CT and MRI have disadvantages in that the numerous time and efforts are needed. Furthermore, a great amount of radiation exposure is an inherent proberty of the CT imaging technique, a number of side-effects are expected from such method. To improve such conventional methods, a number of novel methods that can obtain 3D medical images from a few X-ray images, such as algebraic reconstruction technique (ART), have been developed. Such methods deform a generic model of the internal body part and fit them into the X-ray images to obtain the 3D model; the initial shape, therefore, affects the entire fitting process in a great deal. From this fact, we propose a novel method that can generate a 3D vertebraic generic model based on the statistical database of CT scans in this study. Moreover, we also discuss a method to generate patient-tailored generic model using the facts obtained from the statistical analysis. To do so, the mesh topologies of CTscanned 3D vertebra models are modified to be identical to each other, and the database is constructed based on them. Furthermore, from the results of a statistical analysis on the database, the tendency of shape distribution is characterized, and the modeling parameters are extracted. By using these modeling parameters for generating the patient-tailored generic model, the computational speed and accuracy of ART can greatly be improved. Furthermore, although this study only includes an application to the C1 (Atlas) vertebra, the entire framework of our method can be applied to other body parts generally. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed method can benefit the various medical imaging applications.

        준강간 불능미수 성립요건으로서 ‘결과’의 의미 해석 -대법원 2019.3.8. 2018도16002 전원합의체 판결을 중심으로-

        형법에서 ‘결과’는 가장 널리 사용되는 개념 중 하나이다. 사전적으로 결과(結果)는 ‘어떤 원인으로 결말이 생김 또는 그런 결말의 상태’를 의미한다. 범죄의 성립에 있어 원인된 행위로서 발생 되는 결과의 의미에 대해서 여러 해석이 전개되고 있다. 특히, 2018도16002 전원합의체 판결에서는 결과의 의미를 ‘구성요건실현’으로까지 넓혀 해석하여 그간 별로 판결례가 없던 준강간죄 불능미수를 인정하고 있다. 반면, 대상판결 <반대의견>에서는 <다수의견>이 구성요건 충족의 문제와 형법 제27조에서 규정하는 결과 발생의 가능성 의미를 혼동하고 있다고 비판한다. 불능미수의 성립요건으로서 결과를 ‘구성요건 실현’과 같은 의미로 사용할 수 없고, ‘구성요건결과’로 한정하여 해석해야 한다는 입장이다. 결국‘결과’의 의미에 대한 해석의 차이가 해당 사안에서 준강간죄의 불능미수 성립에 대해 상반된 의견으로 나뉘는 시초(始初)가 된다. 형법에서 결과범/거동범, 미수/기수, 장애미수/불능미수를 구분하는 표지로서 사용되는 결과 개념에 관하여 그 사용의 빈도과 중요도에 비해 그간 학계의 논의는 상대적으로 부족했던 것이 사실이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 준강간 불능미수를 인정한 전원합의체 판결을 중심으로 형법에서 사용되는 결과의 의미의 해석에 관하여 다시 살펴본다. In the criminal law, the ‘result' is one of the most widely used concepts. Various interpretations have been developed about the meaning of the result that occurs as the cause of the crime. In particular, this paper review the issue of the 2018do16002 decision by the Supreme Court which has broadened the meaning of the result to 'realization of the constituent requirements'. But, the < opposite opinions > criticize that the < multiple Opinions > confuses the problem of satisfying the constituent requirements and the possibility of occurrence of results stipulated in the article 27 of the criminal law. According to the < opposite opinions >, the concept of result cannot be used in the same sense as 'realization of constituent requirements', and must be interpreted only as 'constituent requirement result'. In the end, the difference in interpretation of the meaning of the ‘result’ becomes the beginning of the division into conflicting opinions on the establishment of an attempt impossible of a quasi-rape crime in the case. Concerning the concept of result, the research on this was insufficient compared to the frequency and importance used in criminal law. Therefore, this paper examine the interpretation of the meaning of the results, focusing on the judgment.

        성인교육 프로그램 질에 대한 학습자의 평가준거 연구

        학습자 존중은 성인교육분야에서 오랫동안 가장 강조해 온 기본 원리 중의 하나이다. 이는 프로그램에 대한 평가의 경우에도 적용해야 할 보편적인 원리이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 성인교육 프로그램에 대한 학습자의 평가준거에 대한 실증적인 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 이 연구는 성인교육 프로그램에 대한 학습자의 평가준거에 대해 교육이론가들의 이론적 추론이 아닌 실제 성인학습자들의 관점에서 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 연구는 성인교육 프로그램 평가준거와 관련하여 1000여명의 성인학습자의 응답에 대한 탐색적 요인분석(EFA)과 확인적 요인분석(CFA)과정을 통해 이루어졌으며, 연구결과 여섯 개의 준거들, 즉 '프로그램 신뢰성', '프로그램 관련 사람들간의 사회적 긴밀성', '기관의 미적 감각', '학습을 위한 효과적 지원', '교수자의 교수 기술', '교육자원의 편리한 이용' 등의 준거들이 검증되었다. 이러한 준거들은 성인학습자의 관점에서 실증적으로 검증된 준거들로서 성인교육 프로그램의 개발과 운영시 우선적으로 고려되어야 할 것이다. Traditionally, in the field of adult continuing education, learner-centered education has been considered as a very important principle. However, this principle has been understood not from the viewpoint of the adult leaner, but from that of the program provider (Oh, 2000). From this point of view, the adult learner is just a passive beneficiary (Brookfield, 1986). Nowadays, however, the meaning of learner-centered education needs to be understood from a different angle, namely, the learner perspective. Although many studies related to assessing program quality have been conducted in the field of adult education, relatively little concern has been given to how adult learners actually evaluate program quality in the view of their perspectives. The purpose of this study was to identify criteria for evaluating the quality of adult education programs in terms of adult learners perspective. The following research questions guided the research purpose: 1. Can individual criterion be reduced to a more parsimonious, conceptual framework through an exploratory factor analysis (EFA)? 2. Can the results of an EFA be tested through a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA)? Based on a purposive contrast sampling approach to ensure that the eighteen selected non-profit institutions for adult education in Seoul, Korea reflected diversity of both region and program for adult learners, a total 1,000 adult learners were chosen randomly from the directory, which represented approximately 8,000 adult learners from those who enrolled at the above eighteen non-profit institutions for adult education during the summer semester of 1999. Out of them, 778 respondents had returned usable surveys, yielding a final raw response rate of 77.8%. The survey consisted of 52 Likert-scale items to measure adult learners evaluation criteria for the quality of adult education programs and 3 demographic items of gender, age, and educational level completed for the background information of the respondents. The response format on the Likert-scale ranged from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). In order to identify the underlying constructs in the data set, we conducted Principal Axis Factoring analysis using SPSS 11 with two different rotations techniques of Varimax and Oblimin with delta = 0. We chose the Oblimin rotation with delta = 0 since it produced factors with the smallest number of crossloadings and the factors we suggested might be moderately correlated. The results of exploratory factor analyses (EFA) showed that there are six factors - program reliability, social integration, esthetic senses of institutions, effective support for learner-centered education, instructors teaching skill, and convenient use of educational resources - that have eigenvalues greater than 1.0. These six factors account for 51.760% of the total variance. In addition, to test the factor structure obtained from the EFA, we conducted confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) with Satorra-Bentler scaled chi-square statistic with Maximum Likelihood method to evaluate model fit. This CFA model was estimated with LISREL 8.5 program. Model C, the most parsimonious model with 26 items, has a good model fit (Satorra-Bentler chi-square = 1276.59 with df = 284, p<.01, NNFI = .95, CFI = .%, and IFI =.96). Moreover, SRMR and RMSEA have .062 and .067 respectively, which can be considered reasonable. The above results reveal the six factors of program reliability, social integration, esthetic senses of institutions, effective support for learner-centered education, instructors teaching skill, and convenient use of educational resources could be useful evaluation criteria for the quality of adult education programs.

      • Low-temperature fabrication of solution-processed hafnium oxide gate insulator films using a thermally purified solution process

        <P>We proposed a simple method, a thermally purified solution (TPS) process, to lower the fabrication temperature of solution-processed hafnium oxide (HfOx) gate insulator films. The TPS process is proceeded by transferring thermal energy to the HfOx precursor solution ‘BEFORE’ film formation. The TPS process could induce chemical reactions including pre-hydrolysis by thermal energy in the HfOx precursor solution. These chemical reactions reduce the required thermal energy for forming a solution-processed HfOx film and improve the film quality. As a result, the HfOx film fabricated <I>via</I> the TPS process has satisfactory dielectric characteristics: a breakdown electric field of ∼6 MV cm<SUP>−1</SUP>, a leakage current density of ∼10<SUP>−9</SUP> A cm<SUP>−2</SUP>, and a dielectric constant of 10.23 at low temperatures, <I>i.e.</I>, below 200 °C. Solution-processed indium oxide (In2O3) thin film transistors with a HfOx gate insulator fabricated <I>via</I> the TPS process exhibit a field effect mobility of 3.67 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>, an on/off current ratio of 9.8 × 10<SUP>6</SUP>, and a subthreshold swing of 0.18 V dec<SUP>−1</SUP>.</P>
