This paper presents the design of a surveillance night vision system for marine ships. Both a hardware system and software modules for tracking control are developed. In order to control each control axis with compensation for ship motion, the two-degree of freedom(TDF) PID controller is designed and its parameters are tuned using a real-coded genetic algorithm(RCGA). Simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed system.
MOSSBAUER STUDIES OF Co_XFe_(1-X)Cr_2S_4

The mixed spinel system Co_χFe_(1-χ)Cr_2S4 has been studied using the Mossbauer effect. Spectra have been collected over the temperature range 83-300K. The isomer shifts indicate that the charge states of Fe ions are ferrous in character throughout the series. Absence of quadrupole splitting above the magnetic ordering temperature T_c suggests that iron ions occupy only tetrahedral sites. It is notable taht as the temperature decreases below T_c, both quadrupole shift and asymmmetrical linebroadening appear and increase with decreasing temperature, suggesting the presence of electric field gradient and accompanying relaxation effects.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify the health and environmental risk factors of air contaminants that influence environmental and respiratory diseases in Gyeongju, Pohang and Ulsan in South Korea, with a focus on volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Methods: Samples were collected by instantaneous negative pressure by opening the injection valve in the canister at a fixed height of 1 to 1.5 m. The sample that was condensed in $-150^{\circ}C$ was heated to $180^{\circ}C$ in sample pre-concentration trap using a 6-port switching valve and it was injected to a gas chromatography column. The injection quantity of samples was precisely controlled using an electronic flow controller equipped in the gas chromatography-mass spectrometer. Results: The quantity of the VOC emissions in the industrial area was 1.5 to 2 times higher than that in the non-industrial area. With regards to the aromatic hydrocarbons, toluene was detected at the highest level of 22.01 ppb in Ulsan, and chloroform was the halogenated hydrocarbons with the highest level of 10.19 ppb in Pohang. The emission of toluene was shown to be very important, as it accounted for more than 30% of the total aromatic hydrocarbon concentration. Conclusions: It was considered that benzene in terms of the cancer-causing grade standard, toluene in terms of the emission quantity, and chloroform and styrene in terms of their grades and emission quantities should be selected for priority measurement substances.

The effects of crude extract and bioactive fractions from Brachyglottis monroi on biological activity were investigated. The crude ethanol extract inhibited the growth of the Gram positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis (ATCC Strain number 19659, 1 ㎜ zone at 150 ㎍/disk) and the dermatophyte Trichophyton mentagrophytes (ATCC 28185, 2 ㎜ zone at 150 ㎍/disk), and toxic to P388 tumor cells (IC50 23.96 ㎍/ml at 75 ㎍/disk). Cytotoxic activity was strongly showed by Fr. 6 (P388 IC50 19.67 ㎍/ml at 75 ㎍/disk).

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Precise control of carrier density is essential to synthesize high-performance thermoelectric materials. Doping by impurities is often frustrated in <I>n</I>-type Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> alloys by incomplete activation, bipolar doping, the formation of secondary phases, and prevailing intrinsic point defects such as vacancies. This weakens the reproducibility of synthesis processes and reduces the long-term reliability of material's performance, hence aging. Here, we explore an impurity-free doping technique to synthesize <I>n</I>-type bismuth tellurium selenides, combining a cold deformation and a hot extrusion. The cold deformation enables controlling the electron density in the range of ∼10<SUP>19</SUP>/cm<SUP>3</SUP> via the formation of intrinsic point defects, and the hot extrusion allows texturing the microstructure to enhance the electrical conductivity, hence a large power factor of >5 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> W-m<SUP>−1</SUP>-K<SUP>−2</SUP>. We confirm that our process is very reproducible, and the properties of the samples are stable without aging even after thermal stresses. Using this method, we can decouple the relationship between bandgap, carrier density, and composition to improve the high-temperature thermoelectric property. Moreover, we demonstrate the fabrication of high-performance thermoelectric materials from low-graded, raw materials by modifying the degree of the mechanical deformation to reach an optimum carrier density. Our work provides a promising approach to synthesizing <I>n</I>-type thermoelectric materials in the reproducible and adaptable way.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Superparamagnetic relaxation in Co_0.7Cu_0.15Fe_0.15Cr_2S_4

Co_0.7Cu_0.15Fe_0.15Cr_2S_4 has been studied by Mo¨ssbauer spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, an4 magnetic measurements. The crystal structure is found to be a cubic spinel with the lattice parametera_0-9.917 A˚. Absence of quadrupole splitting suggests that Iron ions occeupy only tetrahedralsilos. It is notable that as the temperature increases toward the Ne´el temperature, T_N-252 K,line broadening and a pronounced central peak appear, suegesting soperparamaanetie relaxation.The temperature dependence of the effective anisotropy energy is also found to decrease rapidlywith increasing temperature, thereby supporting the observed rapid increase of the superpararnag-netic relaxation rate below T_N.
Successful treatment by exchange transfusion of a young infant with sodium nitroprusside poisoning

Although sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is often used in pediatric intensive care units, cyanide toxicity can occur after SNP treatment. To treat SNP-induced cyanide poisoning, antidotes such as amyl nitrite, sodium nitrite, sodium thiosulfate, and hydroxycobalamin should be administered immediately after diagnosis. Here, we report the first case of a very young infant whose SNP-induced cyanide poisoning was successfully treated by exchange transfusion. The success of this alternative method may be related to the fact that exchange transfusion not only removes the cyanide from the blood but also activates detoxification systems by supplying sulfur-rich plasma. Moreover, exchange transfusion replaces cyanide-contaminated erythrocytes with fresh erythrocytes, thereby improving the blood's oxygen carrying capacity more rapidly than antidote therapy. Therefore, we believe that exchange transfusion might be an effective therapeutic modality for critical cases of cyanide poisoning.
