Invited Mini Review : Current progress on development of respiratory syncytial virus vaccine
( Jun Chang ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2011 BMB Reports Vol.44 No.4
Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) is a major cause of upper and lower respiratory tract illness in infants and young children worldwide. Despite its importance as a respiratory pathogen, there is currently no licensed vaccine for prophylaxis of HRSV infection. There are several hurdles complicating the development of a RSV vaccine: 1) incomplete immunity to natural RSV infection leading to frequent re-infection, 2) immature immune system and maternal antibodies of newborn infants who are the primary subject population, and 3) imbalanced Th2-biased immune responses to certain vaccine candidates leading to exacerbated pulmonary disease. After the failure of an initial trial featuring formalin-inactivated virus as a RSV vaccine, more careful and deliberate efforts have been made towards the development of safe and effective RSV vaccines without vaccine-enhanced disease. A wide array of RSV vaccine strategies is being developed, including live-attenuated viruses, protein subunit-based, and vector-based candidates. Though licensed vaccines remain to be developed, our great efforts will lead us to reach the goal of attaining safe and effective RSV vaccines in the near future. [BMB reports 2011; 44(4): 232-237]

Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) is a significant cause of upper and lower respiratory tract illness mainly in infants and young children worldwide. HRSV is divided into two subgroups, HRSV-A and HRSV-B, based on sequence variation within the G gene. Despite its importance as a respiratory pathogen, there is currently no safe and effective vaccine for HRSV. In this study, we have detected and identified the HRSV by RT-PCR from nasopharyngeal aspirates of Korean pediatric patients. Interestingly, all HRSV-8 isolates exhibited unique deletion of 6 nucleotides and duplication of 60 nucleotides in the G gene. We successfully amplified two isolates ('KR/A/09-8' belonging to HRSV-A and 'KR/B/10-12' to HRSV-B) on largescale, and evaluated the cross-protective efficacy of our recombinant adenovirus-based HRSV vaccine candidate, rAd/3xG, by challenging the immunized mice with these isolates. The single intranasal immunization with rAd/3xG protected the mice completely from KR/A/09-8 infection and partially from KR/B/1D-12 infection. Our study contributes to the understanding of the genetic characteristics and distribution of subgroups in the seasonal HRSV epidemics in Korea and, for the first time, to the evaluation of the cross-protective efficacy of RSV vaccine against HRSV-A and -B field-isolates.

Many pterosaurs were found recently in western Liaoning and the surrounding areas. Of the 17 genera and 18 species named, only four genera can be assigned confidently to known families. Due to the incompleteness of pterosaur remains (some are represented by postcranial material, whereas others are known from skulls only), the phylogenetic relationships of these pterosaurs are unclear. Based on the modified character matrix of Kellner (80 characters), the relationships of Liaoning pterosaurs (56 taxa, including outgroups) are explored. Preliminary results show that: 1) Dendrorhynchoides and Jeholopterus belong to Anurognathidae; 2) the clade formed by Boreopterus and Feilongus is basal to other ornithocheirids; 3) Liaoningopterus is a primitive form of Anhangueridae; 4) Beipiaopterusis a possible basal ctenochasmatoid; 5) Eosipterus is basal to Germanodacylidae; 6) Eoazhdarcho and Eopteranodon may be early forms of Azhdarchoidea; 7) Chaoyangopterus and Jidapterus may belong to Azhdarchoidea, but they are more derived than Eopteranodon and Eoazhdarcho, and 8) three Chinese tapejarids form a monophyletic group.
Buckling resistance of axially loaded square concrete-filled double steel tubular columns
Junchang Ci,Mizan Ahmed,Viet-Linh Tran,Hong Jia,Shicai Chen,Tan N. Nguyen 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.43 No.6
Thin-walled square concrete-filled double steel tubular (CFDST) columns composed of the inner circular tube filled with concrete can be used to carry the large axial loads or strengthen existing CFST columns in composite constructions. This paper reports an experimental program carried out on short square CFDST columns loaded concentrically. The influences of important column parameters on the post-buckling performance of such columns are investigated. Test results exhibit that the inner circular tube significantly improves the ultimate loads and the ductility of such columns compared to conventional concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) and double-skin CFST (DCFST) columns with an inner void. A mathematical model developed is used to simulate the ultimate strengths and load-strain curves of such columns loaded axially. Furthermore, the ultimate strengths of such columns are predicted using existing codified design models for conventional CFST columns as well as the formulas proposed by previous researchers and compared against a large database comprising 500 CFDST columns. Lastly, an accurate artificial neural network model is developed for the practical applications of such columns under axial loading.
Post-natal parental care in a Cretaceous diapsid from northeastern China
Junchang Lü,Yoshitsugu Kobayashi,D. Charles Deeming,Yongqing Liu 한국지질과학협의회 2015 Geosciences Journal Vol.19 No.2
Post-natal parental care seems to have evolved numerous times in vertebrates. Among extant amniotes, it is present in crocodilians, birds, and mammals. However, evidence of this behavior is extremely rare in the fossil record and is only reported for two types of dinosaurs, and a varanopid ‘pelycosaur’. Here we report new evidence for post-natal parental care in Philydrosaurus, a choristodere, from the Yixian Formation of western Liaoning Province, China. We review the fossil record of reproduction in choristoderes, and this represents the oldest record of post-natal parental care in diapsids to our knowledge.

A new dinosaur fauna, the Ruyang Gigantic Sauropod Dinosaurian Fauna from the early Late Cretaceous of the Ruyang Basin is named. The new dinosaurian fauna is dominated by large-sized sauropod dinosaurs, companying with theropod dinosaurs, such as omithomimid, oviraptorid, spinosaurid and carcharodontosaurid dinosaurs. Two new taxa are erected, they are a oviraptorid dinosaur Luoyanggia liudianensis gen. et sp. nov., and a sauropod Xianshanosaurus shijiagouensis gen et sp. nov. The dinosaur assemblage from the Ruyang Basin indicates that the dinosaur-bearing deposits are Cenomanian in age.

This paper presents a new approach to the problem of robust pole assignment in a circular region usingnovel global harmony search (NGHS) algorithm. Based on geometric principles, the position information of polesin the circular region is depicted and the rules of dynamic selection of poles from the circular region are determined. This ensures the algorithm select poles dynamically from the circular region. In order to get a set of poles and thestate feedback controller which allow the system to have a maximum allowable perturbation or uncertainty, theupper bound of perturbation or uncertainty is optimized by the NGHS algorithm for the poles in the circular region. In contrast to most existing methods, an optimization method using NGHS algorithm for the dynamic selectionof poles, makes the closed-loop system show better robustness. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate theeffectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract
New material of dsungaripterid pterosaurs from the Early Cretaceous of Tatal, western Mongolia, allows the diagnoses of Dsungaripteridae andNoripterusto be amended. All pterosaurs found at Tatal belong to Dsungaripteridae (eitherDsungaripterusorNoripterus). The namePhobetoris a junior synonym ofNoripterus. The differing shapes of the anterior tips of skulls, differing tooth morphologies and the coexistence of bothDsungaripterusandNoripterusmay imply that they occupied distinct ecological niches.
