Abstract

We investigated strontium oxide (SrO) as an interlayer material to enhance the UV stability of a CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite solar cell. Moisture and over 400 nm wavelength of light were excluded to investigate the effect of UV light only. Two different interlayer fabrication processes were examined to optimize the performance of this solar cell. Devices fabricated by dipping for 30 min in SrO solution exhibited photoconversion efficiencies of 15.5%, whereas those fabricated with 60-min dipping showed photoconversion efficiencies of 15% and exhibited local Sr agglomeration. Devices with SrO displayed lower initial efficiencies than those without any SrO layer (17.6%), However, a device without SrO retained only 34.4% of its initial efficiency after 100 h of UV exposure. In contrast, SrO-incorporated devices retained almost 60.0% of their initial efficiency. Severe μ-PL mapping intensity degradation was observed in devices that did not include the interlayer, but no degradation was observed in those with the SrO interlayer. This can be attributed to the passivation of the degradation sites by SrO.

Highlights

Perovskite UV stability was tested under conditions except moisture, oxygen and wavelengths exceeding 400 nm.

With high resolution μ-PL mapping technique, direct evidence is provided about the area perovskite UV degradation begins.

UV degradation is initiated at the ETL/perovskite interface.

Effect of the SrO interlayer on UV stability was examined in an inert atmosphere.

UV stability is enhanced by SrO interface passivation.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Lee, Junmyung,Kim, Jihun,Lee, Byung Jun,Lee, Jongchan,Lee, Hyun Woo,Hong, Min-Hee,Park, Hyung-Ho,Shim, Dong Il,Cho, Hyung Hee,Kwon, Kwang-Ho Elsevier 2018 THIN SOLID FILMS - Vol.660 No.-

Abstract

Mesoporous silica thin films were easily prepared by a sol–gel process and spin-coating, and the film properties were investigated for potential application to thermal isolation layers. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to determine the film thicknesses and to analyze the mesoporous film structures, respectively. The refractive indexes and porosities of the films were determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry and the Lorentz–Lorenz equation, respectively. The infrared absorptions and thermal conductivities of the films were measured by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and a 3-ω method, respectively. The porosity and the number of pores of the films increased with increasing Brij-76 surfactant concentration, the interpore distance and thermal conductivity decreased. The experimental results showed that the mesoporous silica thin films could be function as excellent thermal isolation layers.

Highlights

We have studied the characteristics of mesoporous silica thin films.

Mesoporous silica films were fabricated by a sol gel process and spin coating.

Properties of surfactant concentration and thin film thickness were investigated.

OBJECTIVES: We examined the associations of socioeconomic factors, health behaviors, and comorbidities with early-onset lung cancer. METHODS: The study included 6,794,287 individuals aged 20-39 years who participated in a Korean national health check-up program from 2009 to 2012. During the follow-up period, 4,684 participants developed lung cancer. Multivariable Cox regression analysis was used to estimate the independent associations of potential risk factors with incident lung cancer. RESULTS: Older age (multivariable hazard ratio [mHR], 1.13; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12 to 1.14) and female sex (mHR, 1.62; 95% CI, 1.49 to 1.75) were associated with increased lung cancer risk. Current smoking was also associated with elevated risk (<10 pack-years: mHR, 1.12; 95% CI, 1.01 to 1.24; ≥10 pack-years: mHR, 1.30; 95% CI, 1.18 to 1.45), but past smoking was not. Although mild alcohol consumption (<10 g/day) was associated with lower lung cancer risk (mHR, 0.92; 95% CI, 0.86 to 0.99), heavier alcohol consumption (≥10 g/day) was not. Higher income (highest vs. lowest quartile: mHR, 0.86; 95% CI, 0.78 to 0.94), physical activity for at least 1,500 metabolic equivalent of task-min/wk (vs. non-exercisers: mHR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.69 to 0.99) and obesity (vs. normal weight: mHR, 0.89; 95% CI, 0.83 to 0.96) were associated with lower lung cancer risk, whereas metabolic syndrome was associated with increased risk (mHR, 1.13; 95% CI, 1.03 to 1.24). CONCLUSIONS: In young adults, age, female sex, smoking, and metabolic syndrome were risk factors for early-onset lung cancer, while high income, physical activity, and obesity displayed protective effects.

Klinefelter's syndrome is the most common congenital abnormality that causes primary hypogonadism. It is associated with diseases that predominantly affect women, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and it can sometimes cause veno-occlusive disease. We experienced a case of Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) in a 33-year-old man with Klinefelter's syndrome presented with hematemesis and edema in both lower extremities. The clinical and laboratory findings were compatible with SLE, antiphospholipid syndrome, and BCS. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report to describe a simultaneous presentation of these four clinical syndromes in a single patient.

Transparent electrodes that can remain electrically conductive and stable under large mechanical deformations are highly desirable for applications in flexible and wearable electronics. This paper describes a comprehensive study of the electrical, optical, and mechanical properties of hybrid nanostructures based on two-dimensional graphene and networks of one-dimensional metal nanowires, and their use as transparent and stretchable electrodes. Low sheet resistance (33 Ω/sq) with high transmittance (94% in visible range), robust stability against electric breakdown and oxidation, and superb flexibility (27% in bending strain) and stretchability (100% in tensile strain) are observed, and these multiple functionalities of the hybrid structures suggest a future promise for next generation electronics. The use of hybrid electrodes to fabricate oxide semiconductor transistors and single-pixel displays integrated on wearable soft contact lenses with in vivo tests are demonstrated.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

We have developed a compact desktop-sized nanopatterning system driven by the Roll-to-Roll (R2R) nanoimprinting (NIL) principle. The system realizes the continuous and high-speed stamping of various nanoscale patterns on a large-area flexible substrate without resorting to ponderous and complicated instruments. We first lay out the process principle based on continuous NIL on a UV-curable resin layer using a flexible nanopatterned mold. We then create conceptual and specific designs for the system by focusing on two key processes, imprinting and UV curing, which are performed in a continuous R2R fashion. We build a system with essential components and optimized modules for imprinting, UV curing, and R2R conveying to enable simple but effective nanopatterning within the desktop volume. Finally, we demonstrate several nanopatterning results such as nanolines and nanodots, which are obtained by operating the built desktop R2R NIL system on transparent and flexible substrates. Our system may be further utilized in the scalable fabrication of diverse flexible nanopatterns for many functional applications in optics, photonics, sensors, and energy harvesters.
