Vol.31 No.1

This study figured out which aspect was shown in light of historical context as for works such as < Giselle > by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, which can be said to be the essence of romantic ballet, < Giselle > choreographed in 1982 by Mats Ek, and < She, Giselle > by James Jeon at Seoul Ballet Theatre, who re-analyzed it with 21C modern sense in our country. These three works were greatly influenced by historical characteristics at that time. Giselle in the 19th century contained a weak woman``s image, which was lost the female identity, while being noticeably indicated sociality at that time that had emphasized the social class. Mats Ek``s Giselle, which was contained the unique philosophy, expressed the happening a little more realistically that Giselle goes to a mental hospital in Act II. James Jeon``s < She, Giselle > depicted a strong woman who takes responsibility for a child with earning monty by having the body as medium after going to a red-light district instead of death, thereby having depicted the female subject, who gains freedom in the spiritual aspect. In this way, even the classic ballet works are expressed differently depending on philosophical propensity to which a choreographer points according to historical flow and also to sociality of each country.

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Lobbying and Antidumping

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

Anti-dumping is often defended as a pressure valve which reduces more illiberal forms of protectionist pressure. In the domino dumping model of Anderson [1992, 1993] this need not be true as exporters dump to obtain market access in the event of a VER. The contribution of this paper is to show that anti-dumping opens a channel for strategic lobbying through which lobbying commitments can have favorable effects on the decisions of exporting firms, and through which antidumping enforcement can encourage lobbying. Thus a ``depoliticizing`` institution can perversely be responsible for politicizing trade policy all the more.

Use of extended conversation to enhance vocabulary knowledge in English for employment classes

        James Matthew(James Matthew ),Frank Bennett(Frank Bennett ),허선민(Seonmin Huh) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2022 영어교육연구 Vol.34 No.3

Many English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs focus on students’ oral proficiency and lack the content needed to assist students to develop lexical compilation for use in real workplace contexts. The current study will build upon the existing literature by developing pedagogy to assist students in their workplace readiness, focusing on a strong practical command of relevant English vocabulary. The research focuses on the pedagogy two professors incorporated in their English for employment courses, when teaching employment-related concept vocabulary. A qualitative case study of two foreign professors in the department of English in two Korean universities guided the current study. Pre-made recorded video lectures, live online class sessions with students, lesson plans and class materials were collected for data analysis. The study then focused on determining representative patterns in the professors’ teaching methods. Pedagogy that extended career specific concept vocabulary into authentic English conversation with three main steps was found. Firstly, students were taught concept vocabulary. Secondly, the vocabulary was then combined in speaking activities where students not only had to solve scenarios but also were required to expand on the given forms of words and language expressions. Lastly, the students had extended authentic conversations in English, using the target concept vocabulary learnt. Educational implications have been discussed. (211 words)

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Responses to Antidumping Laws and Legal Interpretations: Producing for Export Markets Using Lawyers and Other Factors of Production

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

This paper explores in the context of a stylized model of dumping some possible strategic responses to the use of "cumulation" and "threat of material injury" in dumping investigations. In particular, it is shown that these guidelines for investigations can change the payoff structure of competition abroad and thereby induce reduced competition and optimal-from an individual firm point of view-excess capacity.

Management of rare ectopic teeth eruption: case series

Olutayo James(Olutayo James ),Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman(Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman ),Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad(Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad ),Hector Oladapo Olasoji(Hector Oladapo Olasoji ) 대한구강악안면외과학회 2023 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.49 No.2

Objectives: An ectopic tooth is a rare eruption of a tooth out of the normal dental apparatus and occurs commonly with the third molar. Thus, in this study, we reported a case series of ectopic teeth in rare jaw locations and highlight the associated pathology and our experience in the surgical management. Patients and Methods: All cases of ectopic tooth managed at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020 were reviewed. The information retrieved includes biodata, location of the ectopic tooth, signs, symptoms, type of tooth and associated pathology, surgical approach and complications. Results: Ten cases of ectopic teeth were identified over the study period. This comprised 80.0% males with a mean age was 23.3 years. The antrum and lower border of the mandible accounted for 50.0% and 40.0% of the ectopic locations, respectively. Dentigerous cyst was the most associated pathology (70%) and usually presented with pain and swelling. Surgical intervention predominantly via the intraoral route was performed if indicated. Conclusion: Ectopic teeth are rare and not always associated with pathology. A high index of suspicion and radiological investigation are necessary for diagnosis. A more extensive multi-center study is however recommended to determine the prevalence of ectopic teeth other than the third molar.

      • African Proverbs: A Tool in Teaching Bibllcal Truth in the 21st Century

2019 Asia-Africa Journal of Mission and Ministry(AAMM) Vol.19 No.-

Africans are good in oral transmission of truth and knowledge, which enhance a very powerful use of proverbs and adage. Surprisingly, African proverbs have been neglected in Biblical Hermeneutic discourse on this continent. The paper aims to recall our attention to the important value of Proverbs in the knowledge of the Bible and tends to apply the efficacy of African proverbs in teaching biblical truth, first to African and others. This venture will validate the belief that every aspect of African’s life has a religion connotation. African proverbs’ main concerns relate to every aspect of human life. It is to teach wisdom and moral lessons. Thus they contain, and are used to convey, moral lessons and advice on how to live a good and prosperous life. African proverbs are highly important as a tool for teaching moral and social values, and how to conduct oneself successfully in the business of life. Proverbs have the power to change people’s conduct, because the truths portrayed in them are so plain and unchallengeable that those who understand the morals and advice they contain, feel compelled to conduct their lives in the manner prescribed in the proverbs by the wise elders of old. The work explores some opportunities for using African proverbs as a tool in teaching biblical truth. This experience draws the meaning of the Bible not only to the African readers but every reader.

        Relic Wary

2017 International Journal of Buddhist Thought & Cultur Vol.27 No.2

The renewed attention that has been paid to Buddhist relics over the past twenty years has done much to redress the “Protestant Suppositions” in Buddhist scholarship and to retrieve relics from being considered as unimportant or a sign of the decline of the tradition into superstition. Scholars of Buddhism have produced important studies that have gone a long way in documenting the place of relics within the Buddhist tradition. It might now be time to ask questions about where this “relic turn” has left us. In this essay, I recognize that there is the potential to overly exoticize relics in the Buddhist tradition. Here, therefore, I seek to experiment with thinking about some of the ordinary, rather than merely extraordinary, aspects of relics and their place within the Buddhist tradition. I do this primarily through an analysis of the ubiquity of relics in Buddhist statues and the widespread presence of mummies in East Asia. Recent scholarship on the contents of statues reveals that it was the norm to insert relics as part of the consecration ritual. It is also becoming evident that there may be many more Buddhist mummies than we have previously thought. Some of those mummies were destroyed during iconoclastic moments in Chinese history, while others may have survived but remain hidden underneath layers of lacquer and gold gilding such that they look like normal Buddhist images. By discussing the more ordinary facets of Buddhist relics and mummies, I try to show how they were part of quotidian and rather ordinary aspects of Buddhist devotional practice.

The varying impact of land subsidence and earth fissures on residential property values in Maricopa County – a quantile regression approach

Vol.21 No.3

This paper uses quantile regression to examine the impact of land subsidence and earth fissures on residential property values across different quantiles of distribution in housing prices in Maricopa County, Arizona. Using 82,716 arms-length property sales between 2004 and 2010, we estimated a fixed effects quantile regression model predicting the impact of land subsidence and earth fissures on property values. We found that both land subsidence and earth fissures had a negative impact on property values. The impact of land subsidence and earth fissures vary statistically across different distributions of housing prices. Disamenity impacts are found to be more pronounced at high-priced homes while they are statistically insignificant at substantially lower priced homes.
