The effects of the genetically modified virus-resistant pepper (line: 15, 20) and the non-GM pepper (line: 2377, 915) on the insect community in the pepper cultivation area were evaluated. Sampling was conducted using yellow sticky traps and pheromone funnel traps in Anseong and Deokso fields. Total number of insects caught on sticky trap were 3273 individuals at GM pepper and 2949 individuals at non-GM pepper in Anseong and 4357 individuals at GM and 3712 individuals at non-GM in Deokso. Total number of aphids collected on leaves were 451 and 330 individuals at GM and non-GM pepper in Anseong, respectively and 79 individuals at GM and 41 individuals at non-GM pepper in Deokso. The total number of the insect individuals caught on sticky trap was not shown significant differences between GM and non-GM pepper at Anseong and Deokso fields, respectively. Also, there were no significant differences in seasonal occurrences of aphids caught on sticky traps in GM and non-GM pepper at both fields. Bo-Ram Kim,Na Ri Lee,Bok-ri Park,Jae yong Chun 한국응용곤충학회 2014 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.04
Radopholus similis belong to the plant parasitic nematode family, Pratylenchidae and was recognized that injure the plant. R. similis was generally identified from bananas and plantain in the tropics. However, the occurrence of infection of R. similis on new host plant was confirmed recently. The aim of this study was to report the determination of new host plant for R. similis on Staurogyne sp. The species identification was evaluated the morphological and molecular characteristics of nine R. similis. Molecular assay was designed from the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of ribosomal DNA to distinguish species. Nematodes from Staurogyne sp. showed almost similar morphological and morphometric characteristics in general R. similis, but some variation in tail shape was confirmed. Also, male was not detectable. Molecular assay showed a high level (97%) of similarity in the TW81-AB28 and 18S-28S sequences (ITS region) with corresponding NCBI sequence. The quarantine should be more intensely to detect the prohibited nematode.

The life table statistics of diamondback moth on the transgenic Chinese cabbage (line: SKCP) with myrosinase gene was compared with that on the non transgenic Chinese cabbage (line: SC) at 25±1℃. Adult life span and number of progeny of P. xylostella on the SC and SKCP lines were similar to each other. The sex ratio, developmental period, intrinsic rate of increase and finite rate of increase of P. xylostella on SC and SKCP were not significantly different in both treatments (sex rati t=-1.60; df=220; P=0.1108, developmental period: t=-0.55; df=220; P=0.5803, intrinsic rate of increase: t=-0.11; df=45; P=0.9172). However, the finite rate of increase and net reproduction were significantly different in between SC and SKCP lines (finite rate of increase: t=2.26; df=45; P=0.0287, net reproduction: t=2.08; df=45; P=0.0442).
In this work, we examined the biocompatibility of electrospun chitosan microfibers as a scaffold. The chitosan microfibers showed a three-dimensional pore structure by SEM. The chitosan microfibers supported attachment and viability of rat muscle-derived stem cells (rMDSCs). Subcutaneous implantation of the chitosan microfibers demonstrated that implantation of rMDSCs containing chitosan microfibers induced lower host tissue responses with decreased macrophage accumulation than did the chitosan microfibers alone, probably due to the immunosuppression of the transplanted rMDSCs. Our results collectively show that chitosan microfibers could serve as a biocompatible in vivo scaffold for rMDSCs in rats.

New Records of Host Plant for Radopholus similis Isolated from Agathis dammara
Na-Ri Lee,Dong Woo Kim,Bo-ram Kim,Bok-ri Park,Jae yong Chun 한국응용곤충학회 2014 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.04
The aim of the study is to report Radopholus similis detected from Agathis dammara in Thailand as new host plant. Existing host of R. similis was known as coffee, pepper, sugarcane and banana etc. This nematode in this study was observed morphologic character using Carl Zeiss Axioimager M2 and Axiovision Rel. 4.8 program. The result shows that a and b of the female was distorted toward maximum value of original description of species, and b′, c and stylet length was distorted toward minimum value of original description of species. This nematode was morphologically distinguished from originally detected R. similis, but measured value was similar in range of original description of species. For more information, molecular assay was also confirmed the R. similis with 98% homology with the sequence of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of ribosomal DNA. We provided PCR-amplified ITS nucleotide sequence.
Compact piezoelectric tripod manipulator based on a reverse bridge-type amplification mechanism
Na, Tae-Won,Choi, Jun-Ho,Jung, Jin-Young,Kim, Hyeong-Geon,Han, Jae-Hung,Park, Kwang-Chun,Oh, Il-Kwon IOP 2016 Smart materials & structures Vol.25 No.9

We report a hierarchical piezoelectric tripod manipulator based on a reverse bridge-type displacement amplifier. The reverse bridge-type amplification mechanism is pre-strained by each piezo-stack actuator up to 60 μm and is cross-stacked in a series arrangement to make a compact and high-stroke manipulator having load-bearing characteristics. The designed manipulator with three degrees of freedom is compact with a height of 56.0 mm, a diameter of 48.6 mm and total weight of 115 g. It achieves a translational stroke of up to 880 μm in heaving motion and a tilting angle of up to 2.0° in rotational motion within the operating voltage and power range of the piezoelectric stack actuator. A key feature of the present design is built-in and pre-strained displacement amplification mechanisms integrated with piezoelectric stacked actuators, resulting in a compact tripod manipulator having exceptionally high stroke and load-bearing capacity.

Effect of Stabilization of Changing Viscosity in Chitosan Solution as a Bio-Adsorbent
Na, Jae Sik,Park, Sang Soon,Kim, Chun Ho,Lee, Sang Bong,Jung, Byung Ok Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2007 Key Engineering Materials Vol.342 No.-

The emulsion stabilizing potential of chitosans was compared in the presence of organic additives. The 4 types suspension of 0.1 wt% of chitosan flocculant were obtained by mixing of chitosan colloidal dispersion with three kinds of additives; sorbic acid, benzoic acid and dibutylhydroxytoluene (BHT). The viscosity of emulsion revealed the following order of stabilizing potentials; sorbic acid > benzoic acid > BHT. As a bio-adsorbent for the treatment of biomedical wastewater, the results were capable of adsorbing more than 30% of pure chitosan. The chitosan emulsions represented that the removal efficiency were increased by COD 59.2%, BOD 70.1%, Zn 77.1%, Cu 93.7%, E. coli 99.4%. As a result of this investigation, it is remarked that the high stabilizing potential of chitosan solution is explained by higher adsorption efficiency with organics, heavy metals and microorganism, and that the effectiveness of chitosan solution for coagulating biomedical wastewater suspension could be improved due to stabilization of the viscosity in the presence of organic additives.

In Vitro Biocompatibility of PLGA-HA Nano-Hybrid Scaffold
( Na Mi Seo ),( Jae Hoon Ko ),( Young Hwan Park ),( Heung Jae Chun ) 한국조직공학·재생의학회 2011 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.8 No.1
Previously, a hybrid non woven mesh comprising nano-fibers of hyaluronic acid (HA) and poly (DL-lac-tic-co-glycolic acids) (PLGA) was prepared using multi-electro-spinning as a scaffold material for tissue engineer-ing applications. HA nano-fibers on the surface provided the improved wettability to the culture medium as well as the possibilities for the enhanced cell attachment and proliferation. As continuation study, biocompatibility profiles of the hybrid scaffold were investigated in vitro, using a series of cytotoxicity tests, and compared with those of highdensity polyethylene (HDPE) and polyurethane (PU). The PLGA-HA nano-hybrid scaffold showed the negligible toxic influence in all cell culture tests, which was attributed to hydrophilic nature of HA nano-fibers.

Background/Aims: Colonoscopy training programs and the minimal experience with colonoscopy required to be considered technically competent are not well established. The aim of this study was to determine the colonoscopy learning curves and factors associated with this difficult procedure at a single center. Methods: A total of 3,243 colonoscopies were performed by 12 first-year gastroenterology fellows, and various clinical factors were assessed prospectively for 22 months. Acquisition of competence (success rate) was evaluated based on two objective criteria: (i) the adjusted completion rate (>90%) and (ii) cecal intubation time (<20 minutes). Results: The overall success rate in reaching the cecum in less than 20 minutes was 72.8%. The cecal intubation time was 9.34±4.13 minutes (mean±SD). Trainees` skill at performing cecal intubation in <20 minutes reached the requisite standard of competence after 200 procedures. Cecal intubation time decreased significantly from 11.3 to 9.4 minutes after 100 procedures and improved continuously thereafter. Female patients and advanced patient age (over 60 years) were associated with prolonged cecal intubation time (>20 minutes). Surgery of the uterus and ovaries was significantly correlated with delayed cecal intubation time, but not after sufficient colonoscopy experience. Conclusions: The minimum number of procedures to reach technical competence was 200. The cecal intubation time was longer in female and older patients. (Gut Liver 2010;4:31-35)
