J. N. Jeckoniah,E. A. Mwageni,K. A. Kayunze 한국외국어대학교 아프리카연구소 2009 Asian Journal of African Studies Vol.25 No.-
Although university students form an important future work force for the nation, they are at high risk of HIV/AIDS infection. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with sexual behaviour among public university students in Tanzania. Using a cross-sectional study design and stratified sampling the survey was conducted in two big public universities in Tanzania, 360 respondents participated in the study. Statistical analysis by SPSS was done to compute descriptive statistics. Index scales were constructed to gauge the level of risky behaviour, misconceptions and barriers to sexual behavioural change. The study found that students have high levels of knowledge on HIV/AIDS, indulge in risky sexual behaviour, have many sexual partners and are inconsistent in using condoms. It recommends the government to develop programmes and strategies to address risky sexual behaviour in universities.
