Construction and characterization of Squash and Oriental melon BAC libraies

Cucumis melo L. is an economically important crop. Genetically, Cucumis melo and Cucurbita maxima belong to Cucurbitaceae family, however, genetic characteristics such as genome size and stress tolerance, are different. To provide genomic resources for the Cucurbitaceae crop improvement, we constructed two bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) libraries for oriental melon (Gotgam chamoe) and squash (Cucurbita Maxima), named ‘Gotgamchamoe BACH1’ and ‘Maxma BACH1’, respectively. Three hundred eighty four BACs were randomly selected and analyzed by Not I restriction enzyme digestion in order to evaluate the libraries in terms of insert size, empty clone ratio. Gotgamchamoe BACH1 was consisted of 92,160 BAC clones with an average insert size of 116kb ranging from 8 to 252kb. Maxima BACH1 was comprised 158,380 clones with an 116Kb of an average insert size ranging 8 to 305Kb. The both libraries were represented 20 haploid genome equivalents based on the reported genome sizes of 500Mb and 900Mb for Gotgamchamoe and maxima. The empty ratios of both libraries were 1.04 and 1.50% for Gotgamchamoe and maxima, respectively. These high quality BAC resources will provide a useful platform for genomic research and crop improvement for Cucurbitacea crops.

Human body motion detection is important in several industry sectors, such as entertainment, healthcare, rehabilitation, and so on. In this paper, we first discuss commercial human motion detection technologies (optical markers, MEMS acceleration sensors, infrared imaging, etc.) and then explain recent advances in the development of flexible and stretchable strain sensors for human motion detection. In particular, flexible and stretchable strain sensors that are fabricated using carbon nanotubes, silver nanowires, graphene, and other materials are reviewed.
Dissection of Korean landrace chamoe (Cucumis melo var. makuwa) genome

The oriental melon (C. melo var. makuwa), called ‘Chamoe’ in Korean, is a popular fruit crop cultivated mainly in Asia and a high–market value crop in Korea. To provide a genomic resource as a reference genome for the Cucurbitaceae crop improvement, we performed whole genome sequencing of Korean landrace, Gotgam chamoe. We used Illumina HiSeq2000 sequencing platform to generate 89 Gb (205X) of paired and mate pair sequence reads. The pre-processed reads were de novo assembled resulting in 4,764 scaffolds with a N50 scaffold length of 249kb. This assembly represented 379.8Mb which was 84.7% of the 448Mb of the whole genome. The assembled draft was predicted 26,634 genes of which 80% were predicted by known protein or C. melo unigene homology. Approximately 20% of predicted genes were hypothetical. A total of 1,885 non-coding RNA was detected including rRNA. The transposable elements were accounted for 21% (71.6Mb) of the total assembly. All the marker candidates including SSR, INDEL, SNP were mined and presented. The draft genome will provide a useful platform for genomic research and improvement for Cucurbitacea crops.
MEMS/Nano-technologies for Smart Air Environmental Monitoring Sensors

The importance of air quality monitoring is rapidly increasing. Even though state-of-the-art air quality monitoring technologies such as mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, and optical measurement enable high-fidelity measurement of air pollutants, they cannot be widely used for portable or personalized platforms because of their high cost and complexity. Recently, personalized and localized environmental monitoring, rather than global and averaged environmental monitoring, has drawn greater attention with the advancement of mobile telecommunication technologies. Here, micro- and nano-technologies enable highly integrated and ultra-compact sensors to meet the needs of personalized environmental monitoring. In this paper, several examples of MEMS-based gas sensors for compact and personalized air quality monitoring are explained. Additionally, the principles and usage of functional nanomaterials are discussed for highly sensitive and selective gas sensors.
Top-down fabricated silicon nanowire sensors for real-time chemical detection

<P>Silicon nanowire (SiNW) sensors have been developed by using top-down fabrication that is CMOS (complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor) compatible for resistive chemical detection with fast response and high sensitivity. Top-down fabrication by electron beam lithography and reactive ion etching of a silicon on insulator (SOI) substrate enables compatibility with the CMOS fabrication process, accurate alignment with other electrical components, flexible design of the nanowire geometry and good control of the electrical characteristics. The SiNW sensors showed a large operation range for pH detection (pH = 4–10) with an average sensitivity of (Δ<I>R</I>/<I>R</I>)/pH = 2.6%/pH and a rise time of 8 s. A small pH level difference (ΔpH = 0.2) near neutral pH conditions (pH = 7) could be resolved with the SiNW sensors. The sensor response to the presence of alkali metal ions and the long term drifting effects were also investigated. </P>
섬관광 활성화 방안에 관한 연구 -옹진군 북도면을 중심으로-

섬관광은 육지와 격리되어서 이색적인 자연경관, 청정 수산물, 독특한 생활문화를 비롯하여 생태관광의 보고로 상당히 매력적인 관광대상지 이었으나 접근의 불편함, 사회기반시설의 취약, 정주인구의 감소는 섬관광의 장애요인으로 작용하였다. 코로나로 인하여 일상에서의 많은 변화가 있으며, 코로나 확산을 막기 위한 여행금지, 재택근무, 영업중지 등은 관광분야에 심각한 피해를 주었다. 위드코로나 시대에 접어들면서 건강에 대한 안전을 가장 중요시 하고, 관광이 소규모화로 진행되며, 힐링과 생태관광을 선호하는 뉴 노멀시대 관광의 트렌드가 새롭게 정립되어가고 있는 상황에서 인천광역시 옹진군 북도면을 대상으로 섬관광 목적지로서 경제력을 제고하기 위한 다음 방안을 제시한다. 첫째, 옹진군 북도면의 섬마다 지니고 있는 고유한 어메니티와 문화의 매력성을 지닌 가치를 제고시켜야 하며, 둘째, 북면도 각자의 섬들을 하나의 패키지 공간이지만 각 섬별로 차별화된 관광코스의 상품 개발이 이루어져야 한다. 셋째, 동절기인 비수기에도 체험 관광상품을 개발하여 소득증대와 기반시설을 활용하여 주민들의 편리한 생활을 도모해야 한다. 넷째, 소규모 안전한 관광에 대한 인증제도나 위생정보를 제공하여야 한다. Tour on island was an attractive tourist place because of its isolation from the land with exotic natural scenery, clean seafood, and unique living culture in addition to reports on ecotourism, but inconvenience in access, vulnerability of social infrastructure and decrease in settlement population acted as obstacles to island tourism. There are many changes in daily life due to COVID-19, and travel bans, work from home, and suspension of business to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have seriously damaged the tourism sector. As we enter the With Corona era, small scale tours are preferred due to safety concerns and with the trend of tourism in the New Normal era, which prefer healing and ecotourism, is newly established, the following measures are proposed to enhance economic power as an island tour place for Bukdo-myeon, Ongjin-gun, Incheon. First, each island in Bukdo-myeon, Ongjin-gun should enhance its unique amenity and cultural attractiveness, secondly, Buk-myeon should also develop a differentiated tourism course for each island as one tour product. Third, development of experiential tourism is necessary even during the winter off-season to increase the income and utilize the infrastructure of the local residents, which promote convenience lifestyle for the locals. Fourth, certification system or hygiene information should be provided for small-scale safe tours.
