Cardiac Troponin I Elevation in Patients with Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Jeon, Ik-Chan,Chang, Chul-Hoon,Choi, Byung-Yon,Kim, Min-Su,Kim, Sang-Woo,Kim, Seong-Ho The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2009 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.46 No.2
Objective: Cardiac dysfunction after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is associated with elevation of serum cardiac troponin I (cTnl) levels. Elevation of cTnl predicts cardiopulmonary and neurological complications, and poor outcome. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical and radiologic records of 114 (male: 30, female: 84) patients who developed aneurysmal SAH between January 2006 and June 2007 and had no history of previous cardiac problems. We evaluated their electrocardiography and cTnl level, which had been measured at admission. A cTnl level above 0.5 $\mu$g/L was defined as an indicator of cardiac injury following SAH. We examined various clinical factors for their association with cTnl elevation and analyzed data using chi-square test, t-test and logistic regression test with SPSS version 12.0. The results were considered significant at p< 0.05. Results: The following parameters shows a correlation with cTnl elevation: higher Hunt-Hess (H-H) grade (p = 0.000), poor Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) score (p = 0.000), profound pulmonary complication (p = 0.043), higher heart rate during initial three days following SAH (p = 0.029), ruptured aneurysm on communicating segment of internal carotid artery (p = 0.025), incidence of vasospasm (p = 0.421), and duration of hyperdynamic therapy for vasospasm (p = 0.292). A significant determinants for outcome were cTnl elevation (p = 0.046) and H-H grade (p = 0.000) in a multivariate study. Conclusion: A cTnl is a good indicator for cardiopulmonary and neurologic complications and outcome following SAH. Consideration of variable clinical factors that related with cTnl elevation may be useful tactics for treatment of SAH and concomitant complications.

Abstract

In Internet of Things (IoT) era, electronic textiles (E-textiles), which combine various functional devices on a fabric, have attracted attention. Among various components for E-textiles, the human-machine interface device, for example, a keyboard, is one of the most important parts. The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) can be a powerful sensing component for the interface device due to its cost-effectiveness, design flexibility and self-powered operation. Previous studies reported fabric-based sensor devices with TENG, but as yet, no device that harnesses commercial compatibility with the textile industry has been reported. It is timely to explore a low-cost TENG-based keyboard made completely of commercial fabric for early commercialization. This paper proposes a TENG-based wearable keyboard that uses only cheap commercial fabrics. Each cell in the proposed keyboard generates electrical signals according to an external touch without any power supply. After an appropriate filtering process, the proposed keyboard can detect a key stroke without any ambiguity. We verify the keyboard operation by typing a word and playing music. The material dependency of the proposed keyboard is experimentally validated with various material pairs. Finally, the endurance of the proposed keyboard against folding, repeated touches and washing is experimentally confirmed for actual applications in a real environment.

Highlights

A self-powered wearable keyboard was demonstrated using a fabric-based TENG array.

Only cheap commercialized fabrics were employed for the general usage.

External contact material-irrelevant characteristic was experimentally verified.

Endurance against to harsh conditions including folding and washing, was validated.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

The Manufacturing Method of Open Pulled Straw (OPS) using Digital Heating Gun
Sung Woo Kim,Min-Su Kim,Chan-Lan Kim,Ik Soo Jeon 한국동물생명공학회(구 한국동물번식학회) 2017 발생공학 국제심포지엄 및 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.10
Vitrification is a common technique of cryopreservation in animal genetic resources of oocytes or embryos and replacing slow freezing methods. This study examined the factors of preparing open pulled straw (OPU) that could be used for vitrification with digital heating gun (DHG). Thermal performance of heat transfer of DHG is more stable and adjustable than traditional way of heating method like hot-plate or alcohol lamp. Thermal setting value of DHG was adjusted to 250, 350, 400 and 450℃ and production rate of wanted OPS was examined. The thickness of wall and outer diameter of OPU were measured by microscopy. OSP production efficiency of 0.5 mL straw was observed at 0, 66.1, 90.5 and 85.7% for 1~2 sec and 9.5, 33.3, 47.6 and 23.8% for 2~3 sec of heating time. OPS with inner diameter in the range of 200~650 μm was produced with 0.5 mL straw, and OPS with inner diameter in the range of 150~300 μm was obtained with 0.25 mL straw. OPS at the desired length and size could be obtained easily when straw was heated for 1.6~2.3 seconds at 350~400℃. Production rates of 0.25 mL straw were higher than those of 0.5 mL straw, so it was needed more attention to control time and power that were required for optimal heat transfer with 0.5 mL straw. Based on the data obtained in this study, hand-made OPSs could be produced for vitrification devices to freeze COCs, oocytes and embryos of with various size of outer diameter.
