A Model Reference Adaptive Control(MRAC) Scheme -Signal Synthesis Method(SSM)- for PI controlled servo systems is proposed to overcome the chattering problem, which is indispensable property in discontinuousty controlled systems such as MRAC(SSM), VSC and Lyapunov Min-Max Control<br/> Since model matching condition is not satisfied in PI controlled servo systems, in the proposed scheme, the control input is synthesized using only output of a speed control system, and then a linear position controller is cascaded.<br/> It is shown that the proposed control system is asymptotically stable and the chattering is greatly reduced when motor speed becomes constant, provided that the disturbance torque satisfies a certain condition.<br/>

In this paper, a prototype of a mobile Sun tracking system is proposed. The proposed system uses 2-axis tilt sensor and 3-axis magnetic sensor to measure the orientation and the posture of the system accoding to the horizontal system of coordinats, which are used to compensate the slope effects. Then through astronomical calculaton using the time and position informations obtained by GPS sensor, the azimuth and altitude of the Sun from that location is calculated. The position of the Sun is converted to that of the mobile Sun tracking system coordinates and used to control A-axis and C-axis of the system.

We consider the speed control problem for a two-inertia system that consists of two inertias connected by a shaft. In this system, the shaft’s flexibility produces torsional vibrations that usually result in limited tracking performance when employing a conventional control strategy such as PI control. Moreover, the control problem becomes far more challenging if the load-side speed and torsion torque developed in the shaft are not measurable. This paper presents a disturbance observer-based controller that suppresses vibrations due to torsion torque and external disturbance so that the load speed tracks the desired reference. This is done by constructing an observer that estimates the torsion torque, load speed, and load torque at the same time and a controller that can adjust the torsion torque as desired. The proposed idea is validated through numerical simulations.
Trackside to Train Communication Using Infrared System

The conventional track to train communication is commonly using radio based equipment such as transponder or balise to transmit the data. However, there are some drawbacks of the conventional equipment, for example multipath fading, source of bandwidth limitation, and interference from other users. Moreover, the radio based equipment is very expensive when installed in large numbers. To address these problems, we propose infrared system for trackside to train communication system. Infrared system offers a transmission of data to train and it can be processed to obtain at least a train location. Infrared communication protocol provides practical wireless data communication for direct dedication configuration. Furthermore, on the pole configuration the infrared system provides an abundant bandwidth, an economically sensible, minimalized installation of equipment on the trackside and reliability for heavy rain environment. This paper concentrates on the communication function and measurement performance evaluation. The proposed trackside to train communication system covers about 6 meters between infrared receiver and infrared transmitter, whereas the half angle of the transmitter is set to 19.65o and the receiver angle is 15o.

An improved sensorless operation scheme for permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) is proposed. A sliding mode observer is employed to estimate the Back-EMF, with which the rotor position is estimated. To improve the robustness against the load torque variation, the disturbance observer (DOB) scheme is adopted so that it estimates the load torque and generates a compensating signal to approximately cancel it. Moreover, the transient response of the rotor speed has been improved in the sense that the settling time and maximum overshoot are reduced. Simulations and experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

This paper proposes an implementable sun tracking algorithm for portable systems powered by alternative energy sources. The proposed system uses a 2-axis tilt sensor and a 3-axis magnetic sensor to measure the orientation and posture of the system, according to a horizon coordinates system, and compensate for tilt effects. Then, through an astronomical calculation, using the present time and position information obtained from GPS sensors, the azimuth and altitude of the sun in that location is calculated and converted to portable sun tracking system coordinates and used to control the A- and C-axes of the system.

In this paper, we propose a new control scheme for emulating dynamic loads. The key component is the disturbance observer which is widely employed in industry. The dynamics to be emulated is represented as the nominal model to be recovered and a disturbance observer based controller is developed to guarantee the recovery. Some simulation results are included to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

현재, 개발되고 있는 신재생에너지분야 가운데 태양광발전시스템은 그 활용범위가 장난감에서부터 인공위성에 이르기까지 널리 쓰이고 있다. 하지만 기존의 제어기는 단순히 전력변환장치의 제어를 목적으로 설계되어, 태양광전지를 입력으로 받는 부분은 고려되어 있지 않다. 그 중에서도 벅 컨버터는 태양광 전지를 고려하여 모델링 하였을 때 비선형적인 특성이 나타나게 되고, 이를 선형제어기를 사용하여 제어하기는 쉽지 않다. 본 논문에서는 태양광발전시스템에서 사용되고 있는 벅 컨버터를 상태공간평준화 방법을 사용하여 모델링하고, 정상상태 해석을 통하여 벅 컨버터의 특성을 밝힌다.
