<P>Surveys of the ion and electron heat transports of neutral beam (NB) heating plasma were carried out by power balance analysis in He and H rich plasma at LHD. Collisionality was scanned by changing density and heating power. The characteristics of the transport vary depending on collisionality. In low collisionality, with low density and high heating power, an ion internal transport barrier (ITB) was formed. The ion heat conductivity (<I>χ</I> i) is lower than electron heat conductivity (<I>χ</I> e) in the core region at <I>ρ</I> < 0.7. On the other hand, in high collisionality, with high density and low heating power, <I>χ</I> i is higher than <I>χ</I> e across the entire range of plasma. These different confinement regimes are associated with different fluctuation characteristics. In ion ITB, fluctuation has a peak at <I>ρ</I> = 0.7, and in normal confinement, fluctuation has a peak at <I>ρ</I> = 1.0. The two confinement modes change gradually depending on the collisionality. Scans of concentration ratio between He and H were also performed. The ion confinement improvements were investigated using gyro-Bohm normalization, taking account of the effective mass and charge. The concentration ratio affected the normalized <I>χ</I> i only in the edge region (<I>ρ</I> ~ 1.0). This indicates ion species effects vary depending on collisionality. Turbulence was modulated by the fast ion loss instability. The modulation of turbulence is higher in H rich than in He rich plasma.</P>

We have investigated effects of the lattice mismatch between the LPE films and the substrates. We have grown $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}$(x=0.1 to 0.15) single crystalline films on single crystalline substrates having different lattice parameter ratio c/a e.g., $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}Cu_{1-y}Zn_{y}O_{4},\;La_{2-x}Ba_{x}CuO_{4},\; LaSrAlO_{4}\;and\;La_{2-x}Sr_{x}Cu_{1-y}Al_{y}O_{4}$ etc., using the IR-LPE technique. The superconducting properties of the grown films were found to vary significantly depending on the lattice mismatch with different substrates.
Floating zone growth of calcium aluminate (Ca12Al14O33)

Abundance of oxygen radicals residing in the cage-like lattice framework of calcium aluminate makes the growth of good quality single crystal difficult. Oxygen bubbles easily get trapped inside the crystal making the optical properties of the crystal inferior. In this study, we have investigated the behavior of oxygen bubbles inside the molten-zone during a conventional floating-zone growth. We have investigated the effect of different feed preparation process on the quality of the grown crystals and found that subsequent quenching of the feed from 900 °C after calcination at 1200 °C significantly reduces the bubbles in the crystal. Secondly we have performed floating-zone growth of C12A7 under a high magnetic field (up to 8T). We think that each of the bubbles become a small piece of magnet under the magnetic effect and repel each other in the molten zone. As a result we observed significant stabilization of the molten zone through early removal, and a reduction of accumulation of the bubbles.

<P>The ostracod genera Parapolycope Klie, 1939 and Kliecope Tanaka, Tsukagoshi & Karanovic, 2014 have a sexually dimorphic upper lip, and males use their lip during courtship. Here we study the male upper lip of 14 species in order to find homologous structures. For this purpose, the lip is divided into six homologous parts, determined by their relative position on the lip and the lip's position in relation to other body parts. We found that the distal part ('c') is the most variable across taxa, probably due to high sexual selection. Six characters of the male upper lip are used in our cladistic analysis, along with another 12, in order to study phylogenetic relationships between Parapolycope species from East Asia. In addition, 18S rRNA is used to reconstruct molecular phylogeny and test the congruence between morphological and molecular data. The recovered topology on all obtained trees is almost identical, emphasising the importance of the male upper lip morphology in interpreting phylogenetic relationships in this peculiar ostracod group. Parapolycope viriosa, sp. nov. and P. widoensis, sp. nov. from marine interstitial habitats in South Korea are described here. To aid further identification of the 12 East Asian Parapolycope species we provide a taxonomic key.</P>

The incidence rate of stomach cancer in Bali, Indonesia, is estimated to be strikingly lower than that in Japan. We conducted an on-site ecological study to investigate the association between the stomach cancer incidence and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. Recruiting 291 healthy persons (136 men and 155 women) from the general population in Bali, Indonesia, we conducted a urea breath test (UBT) to examine H. pylori infection, along with a pepsinogen test to detect chronic atrophic gastritis and urine analysis to estimate sodium and potassium excretion. UBT positivities were 9% (2-15, 95% confidence interval) for men and 7% (1-12) for women, and positive cases for H. pylori IgG antibodies were 1% (0-3) for men and 3% (0-5) for women, significantly lower than the respective values in Japan. Positive pepsinogen tests in Bali were 0% (0-0) for men and 1% (0-4) for women, also significantly lower than the Japanese figures. Computed values for daily salt excretion were $13.3{\pm}4.1g$ (mean${\pm}$SD) for men and $11.1{\pm}3.1g$ for women, as high as corresponding Japanese consumption values. Moreover, the estimated potassium excretion was $3.2{\pm}0.7g$ for men and $2.8{\pm}0.6g$ for women in Bali, significantly higher than the figures in Japan. There were no associations across genetic polymorphisms of IL-beta, TNF-alpha, and PTPN11 with UBT positivity. The low incidence of stomach cancer in Bali may thus mainly be due to the rare H. pylori infection. Namely, the bacterium infection seems to be a critical factor for gastric cancer rather than host or other environmental factors.
Three positive solutions for one-dimensional p-Laplacian problem with sign-changing weight
Sim, I.,Tanaka, S. Pergamon Press ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2015 APPLIED MATHEMATICS LETTERS Vol.49 No.-
We show that one-dimensional p-Laplacian with a sign-changing weight which is subject to Dirichlet boundary condition has three positive solutions suggesting suitable conditions on the weight function and nonlinearity. Proofs are mainly based on the directions of a bifurcation.

We present results of AKARI/IRC near-infrared (NIR) slit-spectroscopy (2.5--5.0\,$\mu$m, $R \sim 100$) of Galactic sources, focusing on ice absorption features. We investigate the abundance of H$_2$O and CO$_2$ ices and other ice species (CO and XCN ices)along lines of sight towards Galactic \ion{H}{ii} regions, massive YSOs, and infrared diffuse sources. Even among those different kinds of astronomical objects, the abundance ratio of CO$_2$ to H$_2$O ices does not vary significantly, suggesting that the pathway to CO$_2$ ice formation driven by UV irradiation is not effectiveat least among the present targets.

Effects of protease-resistant antimicrobial substances (PRA) produced by Lactobacillus plantarum and Leuconostoc citreum on rumen methanogenesis were examined using the in vitro continuous methane quantification system. Four different strains of lactic acid bacteria, i) Lactococcus lactis ATCC19435 (Control, non-antibacterial substances), ii) Lactococcus lactis NCIMB702054 (Nisin-Z), iii) Lactobacillus plantarum TUA1490L (PRA-1), and iv) Leuconostoc citreum JCM9698 (PRA-2) were individually cultured in GYEKP medium. An 80 ml aliquot of each supernatant was inoculated into phosphate-buffered rumen fluid. PRA-1 remarkably decreased cumulative methane production, though propionate, butyrate and ammonia N decreased. For PRA-2, there were no effects on $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ production and fermentation characteristics in mixed rumen cultures. The results suggested that PRA-1 reduced the number of methanogens or inhibited utilization of hydrogen in rumen fermentation.
