Distribution and Types of negation of Korean NPI amwuto

Kang, Hyunju 고려대학교 언어정보연구소 2016 언어정보 Vol.23 No.-

The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution and role of Korean Negative Polarity Item (NPI), amwuto(anyone) in SJ-RIKS corpus and seek for typical patterns of its syntactic structure. To identify part of speech of amwuto, the collected data is sorted out according to its part of speech. In the next section, in order to find double subject, collocation search of topic marker un/nun, i/ka and amwu is conducted. This search condition is limited to adjacent collocation. In addition to that, special cases that amwuto occurs in the Neg-raising construction were also collected and investigated. At the end, the negation types that amwuto prefers are shown. As a result syntactic patterns of amwuto constructions are found. amwuto is frequently used with adjective eps(not exist) and amwuto is preferred to be used as a subject of a sentence. Within the clause where amwuto used, scrambling of subject and object is acceptable but it is not found in the corpus It is also found that 15% of amwuto in the corpus is used with extra NP and they have several common characteristics as follows. amwuto is found to be used with extra NP when the preceding noun has semantic feature [+human] such as saram(human), saram(honorific form of saram), pun(sino-Korean word of saram). 85% of the constructions of amwuto with extra NP occurs with constituent negation eps(not exist). There is typical pattern like [Relative Clause + saram + -un/-i amwuto + eps-ta] where amwuto is used with extra NP. At the end, the types of negations which give license to NPI amwuto are collected. As a result, there are sharp contrasts between long and short negations and between explicit and implicit negations.

Inhibitory effect of Korean Red Ginseng extract on DNA damage response and apoptosis in Helicobacter pylorieinfected gastric epithelial cells

        Hyunju Kang,Joo Weon Lim,김혜영 고려인삼학회 2020 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.44 No.1

Background: Helicobacter pylori increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induces oxidative DNAdamage and apoptosis in gastric epithelial cells. DNA damage activates DNA damage response (DDR)which includes ataxia-telangiectasia-mutated (ATM) activation. ATM increases alternative reading frame(ARF) but decreases mouse double minute 2 (Mdm2). Because p53 interacts with Mdm2, H. pylorieinducedloss of Mdm2 stabilizes p53 and induces apoptosis. Previous study showed that Korean RedGinseng extract (KRG) reduces ROS and prevents cell death in H. pylorieinfected gastric epithelial cells. Methods: We determined whether KRG inhibits apoptosis by suppressing DDRs and apoptotic indices inH. pylorieinfected gastric epithelial AGS cells. The infected cells were treated with or without KRG or anATM kinase inhibitor KU-55933. ROS levels, apoptotic indices (cell death, DNA fragmentation, Bax/Bcl-2ratio, caspase-3 activity) and DDRs (activation and levels of ATM, checkpoint kinase 2, Mdm2, ARF, andp53) were determined. Results: H. pylori induced apoptosis by increasing apoptotic indices and ROS levels. H. pylori activatedDDRs (increased p-ATM, p-checkpoint kinase 2, ARF, p-p53, and p53, but decreased Mdm2) in gastricepithelial cells. KRG reduced ROS and inhibited increase in apoptotic indices and DDRs in H. pylorieinfectedgastric epithelial cells. KU-55933 suppressed DDRs and apoptosis in H. pylorieinfected gastricepithelial cells, similar to KRG. Conclusion: KRG suppressed ATM-mediated DDRs and apoptosis by reducing ROS in H. pylorieinfectedgastric epithelial cells. Supplementation with KRG may prevent the oxidative stress-mediated gastricimpairment associated with H. pylori infection.

      • Development of a novel Antibody-Mediated SERS Immunoassay for Drug-Resistant Influenza Virus

        Hyunju Kang,Juyeon Jung,Taejoon Kang 한국진공학회 2021 한국진공학회 학술발표회초록집 Vol.2021 No.2

        1. The novel antibody had a KD of 72.74 µM for wild-type NA and 32.76 pM for H275YNA, suggesting that it can distinguish drug-resistant influenza virus. 2. The novel antibody has been applied to dot-blot, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, bare-eye detection, and lateral flow assay to demonstrate the specificity of the antibody to the drug-resistant virus. 3. We immobilized the antibody onto atomically flat Au nanoplate and Au nanoparticles, demonstrating the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based immunoassay for oseltamivir-resistant influenza virus in human nasopharyngeal samples

      • Sequence-dependent DNA condensation as a driving force of DNA phase separation

        Kang, Hyunju,Yoo, Jejoong,Sohn, Byeong-Kwon,Lee, Seung-Won,Lee, Hong Soo,Ma, Wenjie,Kee, Jung-Min,Aksimentiev, Aleksei,Kim, Hajin Oxford University Press 2018 Nucleic acids research Vol.46 No.18

Abstract

The physical properties of DNA have been suggested to play a central role in spatio-temporal organization of eukaryotic chromosomes. Experimental correlations have been established between the local nucleotide content of DNA and the frequency of inter- and intra-chromosomal contacts but the underlying physical mechanism remains unknown. Here, we combine fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) measurements, precipitation assays, and molecular dynamics simulations to characterize the effect of DNA nucleotide content, sequence, and methylation on inter-DNA association and its correlation with DNA looping. First, we show that the strength of DNA condensation mediated by poly-lysine peptides as a reduced model of histone tails depends on the DNA’s global nucleotide content but also on the local nucleotide sequence, which turns out to be qualitatively same as the condensation by spermine. Next, we show that the presence and spatial arrangement of C5 methyl groups determines the strength of inter-DNA attraction, partially explaining why RNA resists condensation. Interestingly, multi-color single molecule FRET measurements reveal strong anti-correlation between DNA looping and DNA–DNA association, suggesting that a common biophysical mechanism underlies them. We propose that the differential affinity between DNA regions of varying sequence pattern may drive the phase separation of chromatin into chromosomal subdomains.

      • Metamon-Disaster : The Automated Detection Model of Disaster

        Hyunju Kang,sunghoon An 한국차세대컴퓨팅학회 2022 한국차세대컴퓨팅학회 학술대회 Vol.2022 No.10

Early warning is essential for reducing disaster damage. There is a need for an automated catastrophe classification model that can respond fast to local disaster damage by using the properties of social media, where information is exchanged swiftly. Recently, research on automatically identifying disasters using deep learning has begun, with the goal of supplementing the deep learning model's performance. Here, we propose a novel framework, Metamon-Disaster for deep learning model that automatically classifies disasters based on disaster-related keyword data collected from social media. To classify disasters by type, a learning model generated from NAS was employed, and when compared to other classification such as RF (Random Forest), SVC (Support Vector Classifier) or GBM (Gradient Boost Machine) to check the optimal performance of the model, the suggested model exhibited the best performance with an 0.8928 F1-Score. The model for disaster notification service will provide automated disaster notice and rapid reaction.

      • The Time-varying Impact of China’s Economic Rebalancing on Korea’s Exports to China

Hyunju Kang 한국국제경제학회 2018 International Economic Journal Vol.32 No.1

While China seeks to shift from exports and investment to a consumption-oriented economy and to increase the self-sufficiency rate of exports, this study uses time-varying parameter vector autoregression (TVP-VAR) to examine the impact of economic structural changes in China on Korea’s exports to China over time. The study results suggest that the impact of China’s export shocks on Korea’s exports has weakened, which demonstrates the slowdown in regional production fragmentation, considering that Korea’s export goods are mainly intermediate goods. Instead, the influence of China’s domestic demand shock on Korea’s exports has expanded, which implies that China has increasingly become the final destination of intermediate goods made in Korea.
