This study is intended to propose a reliability based approach to safety assessment and berth-capacity rating of aged wharf structures based on measured data acquired from an extensive dynamic field load testing against berth impact of real ships. The study comprises the essential part of a project for assessing actual berth-capacity of deteriorated and damaged dolphin structures at the Onsan oil refinery wharf currently operated for the berth of oil refinery ships of 20,000 DWT.
Computational fluid dynamics of NiTi stents for Cerebral Aneurysm prevention

Stents are significant medical devices broadly used in the prevention of cerebral aneurysm rupture. The performance of stents depends on their mechanical properties and cell configuration, thus, the aim of this study is the optimization of stent design and test the hemodynamic properties by using computational solid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics. In performance tests, computer-based cerebral aneurysm models of human brain were tested. closed-cell type was selected as the strut configuration, and nitinol was chosen as the material due to its flexibility. Three types of ideal samples with different cell configurations were manufactured. There were over 30% difference in results of flexibility in computational solid mechanics analysis. Moreover, in cerebral aneurysm model simulation, we investigated that stent insertion eased the hemodynamic factors of the cerebral aneurysm and reduced the flow velocity influx into the sac. A reduction in flow velocity led to a 50–60% reduction in wall shear stress, which is expected to aid aneurysm rupture prevention under clinical conditions.

In order to fabricate high sensitive and stable biosensors, we require the material with superior biocompatibility and physical-chemical stability. Many kinds of biomaterials have been evaluated to apply for bioindustry. Recently, carbon based diamond thin films have been focal pointed as bio-applications and their possibility has been evaluated. Diamond thin film has many advantages for electrochemical and biological applications, such as wide potential window (3.0~3.5V), low background current and chemical-physical stability. In this work, we have cultured neuroblastoma cell (SH-SY5Y) on the crystalline diamond films. We use MTT assay to evaluate the characteristic of cell culture on the substrates. As a result, neuroblastoma cell was cultured on the crystalline diamond film as similar as cell culture dish.

The quantitative analytical method for the bioactive substance, 3-cyano-4-methoxy-N-methyl-2-pyridone (ricinine) and an index compound, ricinoleic acid in castor plant (Ricinus communis) extract or oil was developed. For the determination of a pyridone alkaloid compound, ricinine, successive cartridge cleanup method combined with ultra-performance liquid chromatography was set up with ENVI-CarbTM (0.5 g) and C18 SPE cartridges. Accuracy and precision were evaluated through fortification studies of one biopesticide (PE) at 10 and 100 mg kg.1. Mean recoveries of ricinine were 98.7 and 96.0 % associated with less than 10 % RSD, respectively. For the determination of ricinoleic acid in castor extract and oil, saponification and methylation were optimized using gas chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry. Recovery was more than 84.8 % associated with 6.2 % RSD after derivatization procedure. Both methodologies developed were applied to analyze real samples including three castor oil products and six commercially available biopesticides containing R. communis, collected at Korean market. The contents of ricinine and ricinoleic acid in most commercial biopesticides were less than the oil or extract contents indicated by label.
Cloning and Expression of a Rice cDNA Encoding a Lls1 Homologue of Maize

A cDNA (Oslls1) encoding Lls1-homologue of maize was isolated from cDNA library of rice (Oryza sativa cv. Ilpum). The 2,138 bp of full length Oslls1 clone contains an open reading frame of 1,623 nucleotides encoding 575 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequence of Oslls1 has a high level of homology with chlorophyll a oxygenases of Arabidopsis thaliana (67%) and Marchantia polymorpha (65%). Southern blot analysis of genomic DNA indicates the existence of a small gene family for Oslls1 in the rice genome. The expression of Oslls1 mRNA was induced in leaves and germinating seeds. Treatment of $H_2O$$_2$significantly down-regulated Oslls1 expression. The expression of Oslls1 mRNA was consititutively down-regulated in the blm, a rice mutant exhibiting spontaneous necrotic lesions. These results suggest that this Oslls1 gene may be involved incell death mechanisms in the blm mutant of rice.

The confidence of measurement results is important in native and foreign. Although the measurement uncertainty is used for confidence of measurement results, but it is difficult to confirm that there are the errors in the measurement methods and bias in the measurement results continuously. It is difficult to solve these problems, because there is no proficiency testing in LED display field. The coordinator of proficiency testing should consider homogeneity, stability, assigned value, standard deviation and performance statistics to realize the purpose of proficiency testing. The regression analysis is suggested for stability evaluation of artifact in this thesis. The relations between time and measurement results could be identified by regression analysis.
