Indirect sensing of the rotor position of permanent magnet brushless DC motors contains position error Such measuring error can be attenuated by adopting Kalman filter In this paper, the cause of measuring error is analyzed and the design technique of Kalman filter is described. This paper proposes a current control algorithm to reduce the torque ripple due to commutation in unipolar PWM inverter-fed trapezoidal brushless dc motor drives. In this paper, we analyze the average voltage variation of the conducting phase due to commutation, and design a current controller to compensate for the average voltage variation. The proposed method predicts the duration of commutation to reduce the torque ripple due to over-compensation Experimental results are presented that validate the proposed method.

The brushless DC motor with trapezoidal back emfs has torque ripple due to phase commutation. The torque ripple generates noise and vibration and cause errors in position control so this makes the brushless DC motor less suitable for high performance servo applications. In this paper, we propose a new current control method to reduce the torque ripple due to commutation, when the unipolar PWM method is applied for the phase current control of brushless DC motor.<br/>

In this paper, a novel Indirect rotor position sensing method is proposed to Improve the performance of sensorless drive of brushless DC motors. Fast mode change to the sensorless operation is difficult In the existing indirect rotor position sensing methods because precise rotor position can not be obtained when an excessive Input is applied to the drive during synchronous operation mode To cope with this problem, the relationship between terminal voltage and back-emf waveform is analyzed in this paper, also a novel Indirect position sensing method which can detect a precise rotor position at low speed range is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through the experimental results
