        기호학적 접근에 따른 캐릭터의 외형적 유형별 분석 : 퍼스(C. S. Peirce)의 대상체 이론을 중심으로

        인간의 실생활에서 다양한 부분으로 차지하고 있는 캐릭터는 상품의 특성 강조 브랜드 이미지의 차별화 및 일관된 통일성 제공 기업에 대한 소비자와의 친숙도 향상 등의 순기능으로 인해 소비자로부터 구매효과를 극대화 시킨다. 즉 캐릭터는 상품의 부가가치 생산에 막대한 영향을 미치고 있다. 그러나 이처럼 캐릭터가 상품의 고부가치를 창출하여 기업의 경제적 이익을 얻을 수 있는 가능성에도 불구하고 이에 대한 개념은 아직까지도 명확하게 정의내리고 있지 않다. 심지어 다양한 캐릭터 종류의 분류는 각기 다른 연구자의 관점에 따라 마구잡이 방식으로 설정되어져 있다. 그리고 이것은 캐릭터의 다양한 연구과제에 있어 오인된 결과를 초래할 가능성을 제공한다. 따라서 본 연구는 캐릭터의 유형별 추출에 관한 개념 정립의 필요성을 가지며 외형적 표현이라는 관점에서 명백하게 정의하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 한다. 그리고 이것은 대충 집작으로 분류하지 않을 것이며 여기서 본 연구는 퍼스의 유명한 도상 지표 상징의 개념을 이용할 것이다. 결론적으로 캐릭터의 외형적 표현에 관한 3가지 유형을 immediatel형 contiguity형 imagination형으로 정립한다. 그리고 이 세가지 유형에 대하여 부연 설명하자면 다음과 같다. mmediatel형은 대상과 시각적 유사성을 가진 것이며 어떠한 동기부여를 하지 않고 단순히 그 대상이 갖는 속성을 직접적으로 반영한다. contiguity형은 대상과 물리적인 연결 관계에 의해 나타나는 것으로 유기적 쌍을 구성한다. imagination형은 유사성과 인접성이 존재하지 않고 마음속에 들어 있는 상상에 의하여 혹은 문화적 관습 유래되는 규칙에 의해 만들어진 것이다. A character which occupies various parts in human's real life can maximize the purchase effect of consumers due to its good effects such as focus on the quality of goods differentiation of brand images consistent unity and enhancement of consumer's familiarity with a company. In other words a character has significant impact on the creation of added-value of goods. However despite the possibility that a character may create high value of goods and provide economic benefits to a company there is no clear definition of the concept of a character. Even the classification of various kinds of characters has been established at random depending on the perspectives of researchers. It may cause a misleading result in various subjects of study on a character. Therefore this study aims to identity the need for establishing a concept regarding extraction by types of characters and to clearly define them from the perspective of appearance expression. In addition this study will not classify it by guesswork but will use Peirce's well-known concepts of'icon''index' and ''symbol'. To conclude this study establishes three types immediatel type contiguity type and imagination type on appearance expression of a character. The details on these three types are as follows:'Immediatel' type has a visual similarity to object and directly reflect the attributes of the relevant object without any motivation;'Contiguity' type is represented with physical connection to an object and they are organized as organic pairs;'Imagination' type has no any similarity and closeness and is made by imagination existing in the mind or cultural practice and originated rules.

      • Caloric restriction improves diabetes-induced cognitive deficits by attenuating neurogranin-associated calcium signaling in high-fat diet-fed mice

        <P> Diabetes-induced cognitive decline has been recognized in human patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus and mouse model of obesity, but the underlying mechanisms or therapeutic targets are not clearly identified. We investigated the effect of caloric restriction on diabetes-induced memory deficits and searched a molecular mechanism of caloric restriction-mediated neuroprotection. C57BL/6 mice were fed a high-fat diet for 40 weeks and RNA-seq analysis was performed in the hippocampus of high-fat diet-fed mice. To investigate caloric restriction effect on differential expression of genes, mice were fed high-fat diet for 20 weeks and continued on high-fat diet or subjected to caloric restriction (2 g/day) for 12 weeks. High-fat diet-fed mice exhibited insulin resistance, glial activation, blood-brain barrier leakage, and memory deficits, in that we identified neurogranin, a down-regulated gene in high-fat diet-fed mice using RNA-seq analysis; neurogranin regulates Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>/calmodulin-dependent synaptic function. Caloric restriction increased insulin sensitivity, reduced high-fat diet-induced blood-brain barrier leakage and glial activation, and improved memory deficit. Furthermore, caloric restriction reversed high-fat diet-induced expression of neurogranin and the activation of Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II and calpain as well as the downstream effectors. Our results suggest that neurogranin is an important factor of high-fat diet-induced memory deficits on which caloric restriction has a therapeutic effect by regulating neurogranin-associated calcium signaling. </P>

        The purpose of this research is to develop an unconstrained sensing platform for infants, including biomechanical signal and environment. For biomechanical signal measurement, we optimally place four bar type pressure sensors, FSR-408, on an infant mattress by considering anthropometric dimension of infants. A single temperature/humidity sensor, SHT71, is also placed beside the mattress to measure the environment. The developed system showed acceptable results from the test based on the infant phantom model as well as the commercialized device.

        Turkle Sherry의 이론을 통해서 본 사용성에 대한 젠더의 차이에 관한 분석 : 사용성과 젠더 간의 관계에 대한 검증

        본 연구는 미디어의 이용방식에 대한 사용자만족도가 여성과 남성에 따라 달리 나타남을 설문조사를 통해 살펴봄으로서 GUI 디자인 컨셉을 논의 한 것이다. 우리는 미디어 이용방식을 결정짓는 것에 대한 컨셉을 설정하는 과정에서 재미와 쉬움의 교차점을 찾으려고 시도해보지만 난관에 부딪친다. 따라서 재미 요소와 쉬움 요소의 교차점을 찾으려고 노력하기보다는 두 유형의 개념을 명확하게 구분을 짓고 이에 대한 사용자 간의 연관성을 파악하는 것에 초점을 두고자한다. 그리고 이것을 연구 목적으로 제시한다. 본 연구는 컴퓨터 숙달과 젠더 간의 연관성을 제시한 셰리터클(Turkle Sherry)의 선행연구를 통해서 논의하며 젠더의 중심 가치로 두고 있는 기존 이론을 반영하여 젠더의 특성 및 차이점을 추론한다. 이와 같은 주요관점을 토대로 연구 문제를 도출하며 실제로 한국 사회에서 핸드폰 사용자들의 만족도가 젠더에 따라 어떠한 영향을 주는지에 관하여 연구가설을 제시한다. 한편 연구 가설1,2를 검증하기 위해 우선 미디어 이용의 사용자 만족도인 재미 요소와 쉬움요소에 대해 조작화를 시도한다. 즉 선행 연구의 검토를 통하여 모여진 개념들에 대한 의견을 제시하는 것을 시작으로 재미 요소와 쉬움 요소를 추출하며 이들 요소들을 기반으로 총16개 설문 문항을 만든다. 그리고 위와 같은 연구 방법을 통해 설계되어진 설문지를 통해 설문조사를 실시하며 분석 처리하여 연구 가설에 대한 검증결과를 얻는다. This study sought GUI design concept by examining the difference of user preference to media use method between male and female through survey. We have tried to find out an intersecting point between easiness and fun during the process of establishing a concept of setting a media use method but often have encountered difficulties. Therefore rather than attempting to find out an intersecting point between easiness and fun with respect to the satisfaction of media use this study focused on clear division between two types of concepts and identification of user characteristics. This study discusses based on the precedent study by Turkle Sherry who suggested the link between computer proficiency and gender and infers the characteristics and differences of genders by reflecting the previous theory which focused on genders. In addition based on these main perspectives it draws research problems and suggests study hypotheses regarding the satisfaction level of Korean mobile phone users depending on their gender. Meanwhile in order to verify study hypotheses 1 and 2 this study attempts to manipulate'fun' element and'easiness' element which are the satisfaction level of media user. That is it begins with suggesting opinions regarding concepts that have been collected through review of precedent studies then derives'fun' element and'easiness' element from them and finally makes a survey consisting of 16 questions based on these elements. Furthermore it conducts a survey through the questionnaire designed based on such research methods and then derives the result of verification through analysis. The result of hypothesis verification on study problems turned the findings of the precedent studies over. This is because this study failed to verify the validity of hypothesis verification based on Turkle Sherry's theory.

        Myeloid-specific SIRT1 Deletion Aggravates Hepatic Inflammation and Steatosis in High-fat Diet-fed Mice

        Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is a mammalian NAD<sup>+</sup>-dependent protein deacetylase that regulates cellular metabolism and inflammatory response. The organ-specific deletion of SIRT1 induces local inflam-mation and insulin resistance in dietary and genetic obesity. Macrophage-mediated inflammation con-tributes to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, however, the macrophage-specific SIRT1 function in the context of obesity is largely unknown. C57/BL6 wild type (WT) or myeloid-specific SIRT1 knockout (KO) mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) or normal diet (ND) for 12 weeks. Metabolic parameters and markers of hepatic steatosis and inflammation in liver were compared in WT and KO mice. SIRT1 deletion enhanced HFD-induced changes on body and liver weight gain, and increased glucose and insulin resistance. In liver, SIRT1 deletion increased the acetylation, and enhanced HFD-induced nuclear translocation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), hepatic inflammation and macrophage infiltration. HFD-fed KO mice showed severe hepatic steatosis by activating lipogenic path-way through sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP-1), and hepatic fibrogenesis, as indicated by induction of connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), and collagen secretion. Myeloid-specific deletion of SIRT1 stimulates obesity-induced inflammation and increases the risk of hepatic fibrosis. Targeted induction of macrophage SIRT1 may be a good therapy for alleviating inflammation-associated metabolic syndrome.

      • Work Hours, Time Constraints, and Women’s Supportive Networks at Workplace

        Time is a key resource for building and maintaining social relationships. Though mentoring and positive organizational relationships are essential for career success, women are challenged in developing supportive networks given time constraints they face. Using longitudinal data on 2,558 female managers in 683 Korean companies, this study examines how time, culture, and structure of workplaces can both act as barriers and catalysts in gaining a mentor and forming relationships with supervisors and colleagues. Women are more likely to have a male mentor when they work long hours and when they experience less time constraints from family responsibilities. In contrast, hours worked and time constraints are not significant predictors of the presence of a female mentor. Furthermore, while performance-based culture, family-friendly policies, and female representation affect the presence of mentorship, such workplace culture and structure matter more for married than single women. Similarly, relationships with supervisors and colleagues suffer when women experience more time constraints, but the relationships improve with the presence of family-friendly and flexible-time practices. The findings suggest that long work hours and time constraints shape female managers’ workplace relationships, but the problem can be mitigated by organizational culture and policies. This study carries policy implications for overwork and gender inequality.
