<P><B>Aims</B></P><P>From our previous clinical trials, intracoronary infusion of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF)-mobilized peripheral blood mononuclear cells (<SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs) proved to be effective in improving myocardial contractility and reducing infarct volume in acute myocardial infarction. We tested the effect of priming <SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs with erythropoietin (EPO) to augment its therapeutic efficacy.</P><P><B>Methods and results</B></P><P><SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs were obtained from healthy volunteers after a 3-day subcutaneous injection of G-CSF (10 μg/kg). About 40% of <SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs were EPO receptor (EPOR) (+) and responded to 6 h EPO-priming (10 IU/mL) by increasing the expression of vasculogenic factors (i.e. IL8, IL10, bFGF, PDGF, MMP9) and adhesion molecules (i.e. integrin αV, β1, β2, β8) through the JAK2 and Akt pathway. These responses were also observed in PBMCs from elderly patients with coronary disease. The conditioned media from EPO-primed <SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs contained various cytokines such as IL8, IL10, TNFα, and PDGF, which enhanced the migration and tube formation capability of endothelial cells. EPO-primed <SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs also showed increased adhesion on endothelial cells or fibronectin. Augmented vasculogenic potential of EPO-primed <SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs was confirmed in a Matrigel plug assay, ischaemic hindlimb, and myocardial infarction models of athymic nude mice. There were two action mechanisms: (i) cellular effects confirmed by direct incorporation of human <SUP>mob</SUP>PBSCs into mouse vasculature and (ii) indirect humoral effects confirmed by the therapeutic effect of the supernatant of EPO-primed <SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Brief <I>ex vivo</I> EPO-priming is a novel method to augment the vasculogenic potential of human <SUP>mob</SUP>PBMCs, which would help to achieve better results after intracoronary infusion in myocardial infarction patients.</P>

Effect of aging condition on the microstructure and hardness properties of Al-3Li, Al-3Li-2Cu, Al-3Li-2Cu-0.3Zr have been studied. The alloy ribbons have been prepared by means of Single Roll Melt Spinning by rapid solidification technique. In rapidly solidified Al-3Li-2Cu, Al-3Li-2Cu-0.3Zr alloy ribbons show the icosahedral intermetallic compound of five-fold symmetry which is placed in cell-bound-ary and matrix. In the matrix precipitated fine δ'(Al₃Li) phase. Heat-treated at 250℃ 1hr. In this condition, δ'(Al₃Li) phase started decompose. The icosahedral intermetallic compound has been grown. When heat-treated at 300℃ 1 hr, the δ' phase has been decomposed all. In the matrix, icosahedral intermetallic compound has been grown greatly. The micro-hardness has been obtained more high Al-Li-Cu-(Zr) alloy than Al-Li alloy. Strength-hardended phenomena showed to solution hardning by the addition of Cu. When the heat-treated at 250℃ 1 hr, in the alloy of Zr addition, delayed decomposed δ' phase. In the case, micro-hardness gradually decreased. When the heat-treatment have done at 300℃ 1 hr, the micro-hardness has been decreased because δ' phase decomposed all.

An experiment was carried out to assess the effect of feed selenium-lysine (Se-Lys) supplementation on milk compositions and serum biochemical indices in Saanen dairy goats in Korea. A total of twelve 36 months old Saanen lactating dairy goats (47±6.21 kg) fed the similar dry matter intake twice a day at 2% of BW (DMI) (10.9% moisture of concentrate and 19% moisture of roughage), milk yield (2.5 kg/d) and parity (2) were randomly selected and subjected for the present study, divided into two groups with six goats in each group. The goats in the control group received rice hulls (10 g/ day) only, and did not receive Se-Lys; goats in the treatment group were fed 0.06 g of Se-Lys with 10 g of rice hulls every day before feeding roughage for six weeks. The milk sample was collected every week, and its compositions were analyzed. The results of the present study showed that there is no significantly increased milk production in Se-Lys treated group goats when compared with control group goats. But, Se-Lys treatment significantly increased the milk protein content (3.98±0.16%), fat (3.72±0.27%), lactose (4.07±0.14%), total solids (12.51±0.28%) and urea (14.42±1.45 mg/dl) content as compared to the control group goats (p<0.05). The somatic cell counts (207,740±28.81 cells/ml) were significantly lower in the Se-Lys treated group than in the control group (p<0.05). Also, the results of the current study showed that supplementation of Se-Lys were significantly decreased the blood biochemical indices of IL-6 (34.34±6.04 pg/ml), TNT-α (0.56±0.22 ng/ml), MDA (5.07±1.03 ng/ml), GPx-1 (9.07±5.17 ng/ml), sCD4 (2.64±1.02 ng/ml) and sCD8 (5.08±2.08 ng/ml) level when compared with without addition of Se-Lys group dairy goats (p<0.05). On the other hand, the selenoprotein P (1,580.18±127.62 ng/ml) level was significantly higher in Se-Lys supplemented group than in the control group (p<0.05). Based on the study results, it was concluded that feed Se-Lys supplementation may improve milk yield with positively improved protein, fat, lactose, total solids, urea content, and biochemical indices without negative effects on milk production traits.
치아 씨앗으로부터 분리한 단백다당체의 성분분석과 보습 효과

본 논문에서는 치아 씨앗으로부터 분리한 단백다당체(proteoglycan)의 성분분석과 분자량 측정 및 피부보습 효과를 연구하였다. 분리된 단백다당체의 성분분석 결과 치아 씨앗 단백다당체를 이루고 있는 당 성분(%)은 galactose (46.8), glucuronic acid (27.1), rhamnose (8.7), xylose (7.6), glucose (4.9), fructose (2.3), mannose (1.8), arabinose (0.9)로 확인되었으며, 함유된 단백질의 함량은 31.3 mg/g으로 이를 구성하는 아미노산 성분(mg/g)은 Asp (1.9), Glu (3.6), Ser (0.9), Gly (3.6), Thr (0.8), Arg (1.0), Ala (2.0), Tyr (0.4), Cys (4.8), Val (1.1), Phe (0.5), Ile (0.6), Leu (0.9)로 확인 되었다. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC)에 의해 측정한 치아 씨앗 단백다당체의 분자량 범위는 100,000 ~ 250,000 Da로 분자량 분포에 의한 평균 분자량은 170,000 Da이었다. 또한, 사람을 이용한 피부수분 보유 효과 및 피부 수분 손실량을 평가한 결과, 피부의 수분함량을 유지하는 효과가 우수하였으며 표피 수분 손실량 또한 적어서 피부 보습제로서 매우 우수하였다. 결론적으로 치아 씨앗의 다당체로부터 분리한 단백다당체를 화장품에 응용하면 우수한 보습효과를 가지는 화장품을 개발 할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. We investigated the effects of skin hydration and composition analysis of proteoglycan (chia seed polymer) produced from chia (Salvia hispanica) seed. The result showed that proteoglycan of chia seeds is composed of galactose (46.8 %), glucuronic acid (27.1 %), rhamnose (8.7 %), xylose (7.6 %), glucose (4.9 %), fructose (2.3 %), mannose (1.8 %), arabinose (0.9 %) and the amount of proteins contained is 31.3 mg/g with the constituent amino acid compositions (mg/g) of Asp (1.9), Glu (3.6), Ser (0.9), Gly (3.6), Thr (0.8), Arg (1.0), Ala (2.0), Tyr (0.4), Cys (4.8), Val (1.1), Phe (0.5), Ile (0.6), Leu (0.9). The molecular weight of the proteoglycan measured by GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatography) is the range of 100,000 ~ 250,000 Da and the average molecular weight is 170,000 Da. The moisturizing effects and trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) of chia seed polymer in cosmetic products (O/W emulsion) were studied in vivo. Chia seed polymer showed good skin hydration effects when compared with sodium hyaluronate which is a common moisturizer. Taken all together, chia seed polymer should be a very useful cosmetic ingredient as a moisturizer and a protecting agent from various skin irritations.
Discrepancies in general surgery medical terminology between South and North Korea

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to categorize surgery-related medical terminologies used in South and North Korea and to compare and analyze discrepancies observed in the terms. Methods: This study collected medical terminology used in the North Korean medical book “Surgery” and compared it to medical terminology found in the medical glossary of South Korea. The order of the subtitle was described according to the Instruction to Authors. Results: In total, there were 2,168 individual medical terms, of which only 1,004 words (46.3%) were identical to South Korean medical terms. There were 581 similar terms (26.8%), 265 different terms (12.2%), and 318 terms that are nonexistent in South Korea (14.7%). Conclusion: Less than half of the medical terms used in North Korea match those used in South Korea. It is expected that the prolongation of the current division of South and North Korea will only worsen this discrepancy. Further efforts to bridge the gap through academic exchange between South Korea and North Korea are required in preparation for an era of reunification.
