Synthesis of 2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)benzofurans and Their Application to β-Amyloid Aggregation Inhibitor
Hong-Dae Choi,Pil-Ja Seo,Byeng-Wha Son,Byoung Won Kang 대한약학회 2004 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.27 No.1
The facile synthesis of a series of 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzofurans (4a-e) is described. The one-pot reaction of 4-substituted phenols with the chloride 1 in the presence of zinc chloride afforded 3-methylthio-2-(4-acetoxyphenyl)benzofurans (2a-e). The compounds 4a-e were obtained from the hydrolysis of 2a-e followed by the desulfurization of the resulting 3-methylthio- 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzofurans (3a-e). 5-Methyl-3-p-toluoyl-2-[4-(3-diethylaminopropoxy) phenyl]benzofuran (7), a b-amyloid aggregation inhibitor, was synthesized by three steps starting from 4a.
Total Synthesis of a Norneolignan from Ratanhia Radix
Hong-DaeChoi,Pil-JaSeo,Byeng-WhaSon 대한약학회 2002 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.25 No.6
The total synthesis of a norneolignan isolated from Ratanhia, 5-(3-hydroxypropyl)-2-(2'-methoxy- 4'-hydroxyphenyl)benzofuran (8), is described. The key steps contain the one-pot reaction for a 2-arylbenzofuran 6 from methyl 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate with 2-chloro-2-methylthio-( 2'-methoxy-4'-acetoxy)acetophenone (5) in the presence of ZnCl2, and reductive desulfurization of the resulting product 6.

The metabolites of marine mollusk Mytilus edulis were isolated and characterized, revealing the presence of the rare free fatty acids and proteinogenic amino acids together with a non-proteinogenic free amino acid, taurine. The free fatty acids in this organism were particularly interesting for the presence of both unusual n-6 acid [20:4 (n-6)] and triple bond containing acid (2,5-octadecadiynoic acid). In addition to the proteinogenic amino acids commonly found in proteins, non-proteinogenic free amino acid taurine was isolated and the structure was determined by its physicochemical properties. Recently taurine has been given much interest in the molecular level because of diverse biological activities and the medicinal properties. Furthermore, the result of the analyses of free amino acids showed that glycine, glutamic acid, serine and alanine, which were considered to be related to the taste of this organism, are predominantly present.
Indolyl Alkaloid Derivatives, Nb-Acetyltryptamine and Oxaline from a Marine-Derived Fungus
YongLi,XiFengLi,DongSooKim,HongDaeChoi,ByengWhaSon 대한약학회 2003 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.26 No.1
Indolyl alkaloids, Nb-acetyltryptamine (1) and the known oxaline (2) have been isolated from the organic extract of the broth of an unidentified fungus collected from the surface of the marine red alga Gracilaria verrucosa. The structure of Nb-acetyltryptamine (1) was assigned on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic analyses.
