To improve the anti-corrosion property of AZ31 Mg alloy, in the present study we tried to form thin films using electrodeposition, anodizing and thermal oxidation. The flake-like hydroxyapatite (HAp) film was formed by electrodeposition in a solution containing Ca and P ions, the MgO film indicating a white color by anodizing in a solution of NaOH, and the MgO film indicating a interference color by thermal oxidation in air, respectively. From the results of anti-corrosion measurements, we found that these films had the anti-corrosion property in simulated body fluid (SBF).

Optical properties of ZnO thin lms with/without MgO-buer annealing were investigated by low and room temperature photoluminescence measurements. The ZnO lms were grown onc-sapphire substrates by plasma-assisted molecular-beam epitaxy employing a thin MgO-buer layer. Dislocation density of ZnO layer was reduced from 5.3· 109 to 1.9· 109 cm. 2 by annealingMgO-buer prior to the growth of ZnO. The intensity of free exciton emission from the sample with MgO-buer annealing wasalmost twice of that from the sample without annealing, while the deep level emission from the sample with MgO-buer annealingwas about 1/3 of that without annealing. The MgO-buer annealing improves optical quality of overgrown ZnO lms.
Effect of Seeding Layers on Preparation of PLZT Thin Films by Sol-Gel Method

$(Pb_xLa_{1-x}) (Zr_yTi_{1-y})O_3$ (PLZT) thin films with electrooptic effect are promising for the optical application such as display or light shutter. However, it is difficult to use inexpensive and transparent glass substrates because the conventional process for preparation of PLZT requires temperatures above $600^{\circ}C$. In order to deposit a perovskite PLZT thin films at low processing temperatures through alkoxide route, we have offered several seeding processes which reduce the activation energy for crystallization. In this study, we optimized the stacking structure of multilayered PLZT for obtaining single phase perovskite at lower temperatures. As a result, ferroelectric PLZT thin films with different compositions were successfully prepared at a temperature as low at $500^{\circ}C$.

VO$_2$ceramics exhibiting a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) of resistivity have been widely used as temperature dependence resistors. The NTC effect similar to $VO_2$ceramics was observed when a low-thermal-expansion ceramic matrix was loaded near the percolation threshold with conductive metal particles. The resistivity in a composite made from silica glass and 20 vol% Ag filler suddenly decreased from $10^{-7}$ to $10^3\;\Omega$cm at about $300^{\circ}C$.
