An Assistive Robot Arm System for People with Disabilities : Availability of Motion Generation Tool
Hiroki Higa,Hideyuki Uehara,Katsuya Taira 대한전자공학회 2007 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2007 No.7
An assistive robot arm for people with disabilities was described in this paper. The system is composed of a robot arm, PC, control device, and driver. To generate input signals for any motions of the assistive robot arm easily, we also made the motion generation tool which had five links and five variable resistors to detect changes in angles between each link, and the outputs of the variable resistors connected to the dc power supply were sampled by the PC through AD converter. Using the device, we obtained the motions of the eating commands. They were conducted by three experimental subjects and the experimental results showed that using the assistive robot arm system they could eat fried chickens properly.
Input Interface Using Finger Shape : Evaluation of its Performance
Hiroki Higa,Takashi Dojo 대한전자공학회 2007 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2007 No.7
A noncontact input interface using image processing for people with disabilities of the fingers, such as rheumatism and osteoarthritis, has been developed. The input interface is simply composed of a CCD camera and PC. After the fingers were taken with the CCD camera, they were appropriately detected using image processing in this paper. An on-screen keyboard and control box were also made, using the input interface an example sentence was experimentally input by the experimental subject. It was clear from the experimental results that he could directly input the sentence in Microsoft Word without any difficulty, and that the input characteristics with the least incorrectly-input were experimentally shown.
Improvement of Control Command Input Device Using Image Processing for FES System
Hiroki Higa,Kosuke Mihara,Nozomu Hoshimiya 대한전자공학회 2008 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2008 No.7
In order to develop a control command input device for a functional electrical stimulation (FES) system, an image processing method was used in this paper. A healthy subject’s eye movement was detected, the prototype control command input device was made, and we verified its performance in experiments. From the experimental results, it was found that a healthy subject could appropriately operate the control device to control his wrist joint by FES.
Design of Biological Information Measuring System
Hiroki Higa,Takashi Baba 대한전자공학회 2008 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2008 No.7
To monitor individual’s health status, and collect vital physiological data, a biological information measuring system was developed in this paper. As a first step of our research, a user’s unit which had an accelerometer and thermometer was made and verified its performance. From the experimental results, it was clear that a healthy subject’s activities and the body temperature were appropriately collected using the system.
