A Symbolic-Numeric Approach to Multi-Parametric Programming for Control Design

In this paper we propose a new method which enables us to obtain exact parametric solutions for multi-parametric programming problems, that is the optimal solutions as a function of the varying parameters, using symbolic quantifiere limination technique. The existing methods for multi-parametric programming are based on the sensitivity analysis theory and, in general produce approximate optimal solutions. Therefore usually there exist significant gaps between obtained numerical approximated solutions and exactones, in particular, for multi-parametric nonlinear pro-gramming. It is desired to resolve this issue. Our method based on symbolic computation will remedy this drawback.
Alignment film abrasion caused by rubbing

The alignment film abrasion caused by the rubbing process was quantitatively evaluated via atomic-force microscopy (AFM). First, a patterned alignment film structure, which was molded through the imprint method, was artificially formed. Then, the surface topography of the alignment film was evaluated via AFM after rubbing, and the degree of abrasion of the alignment film was estimated by subtracting the value after rubbing from the value before rubbing. It was recognized that the degree of abrasion increased with an increase in the rubbing strength. The relationship between the number of rubbing cycles and the degree of abrasion of the alignment film was also estimated.

High-density solid solutions with compositions of (1−x)(Bi1/2Na1/2)TiO3−xBa(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O3(BNT-BMN), with x = 0 − 0.06, were prepared by using the conventional ceramic fabricationprocess. The optimal composition that yielded the best piezoelectric properties for high-powerpiezoelectric applications was investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses of BNT-BMN withx = 0 − 0.06 suggested that the rhombohedral-pseudocubic morphotropic phase boundary (MPB)for this material system is in the compositional region 0.035 x 0.04 at room temperature. Ahard-mode BNT-BMN with x = 0.03, which lay on the rhombohedral side near the MPB region,exhibited excellent piezo- and ferroelectric properties.
Predictor Order and Error Distribution of MMAE Predictors for Lossless Image Coding

This paper investigates the relation between an error distribution and a predictive order of minimum mean abusolute error predictors(MMAE predictors) designed for lossless coding of greyscale images. Design of MMAE predictors reduces to the linear programming problem. Let k is the number of coefficients in a predictor(predictor order), we imagine that predictor order k have a distribution shaping effect. Main purpose of this paper is to ensure that k have such an effect.
Small Bowel Endoscopy in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Crohn disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the entire gastrointestinal tract but is most frequently localized to the large and small bowel. Small bowel endoscopy helps with the differential diagnosis of CD in suspected CD patients. Early diagnosis of CD is preferable for suspected CD conditions to improve chronic inflammatory infiltrates, fibrosis. Small bowel endoscopy can help with the early detection of active disease, thus leading to early therapy before the onset of clinical symptoms of established CD. Some patients with CD have mucosal inflammatory changes not in the terminal ileum but in the proximal small bowel. Conventional ileocolonoscopy cannot detect ileal involvement proximal to the terminal ileum. Small bowel endoscopy, however, can be useful for evaluating these small bowel involvements in patients with CD. Small bowel endoscopy by endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD) enables the treatment of small bowel strictures in patients with CD. However, many practical issues still need to be addressed, such as endoscopic findings for early detection of CD, application compared with other imaging modalities, determination of the appropriate interval for endoscopic surveillance of small bowel lesions in patients with CD, and long-term prognosis after EBD.

The paper also applies the proposed method to improvement of indirect work operations. Furthermore, it clarifies that the concept of fundamental transformation can effectively function in implementing improvement tasks in actual manufacturing organizations
