Endoscopic diagnosis of gastric metastases from malignant melanoma: systematic review
Helena Campoli Reggiani,Ana Clara Aguiar Pongeluppi,Vitória Froes Miraglia Martins Ferreira,Isadora Pinheiro Felix,Paulo Moacir de Oliveira Campoli 대한소화기내시경학회 2022 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.55 No.4
Background/Aims: Metastases of malignant melanoma (MM) are rare and associated with poor prognosis. The objective of this studywas to analyze the clinical and endoscopic characteristics of gastric metastases of MM by systematically reviewing cases and case seriesinvolving patients diagnosed using upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Methods: The PubMed and LILACS databases were searched. Reports containing individual patient data were included. Outcomessuch as clinical data, endoscopic findings, treatments, and survival were analyzed. Results: A total of 88 studies with individual data from 113 patients with gastric metastases of MM were included. The primary sites ofMM were the skin (62%), eyes (10%), and mucous membranes (6%). Most patients (56%) had multiple metastases in the stomach, locatedpredominantly in the gastric body (approximately 80%). The overall survival rate at 2 years was 4%. There was a significant reductionin the survival of patients with multiple gastric metastases compared to that of patients with single metastasis (hazard ratio,0.459; 95% confidence interval, 0.235−0.895; p=0.022). Conclusions: Gastric metastases of MM have a poor prognosis, especially in patients with multiple implants in the stomach. Additionalstudies are needed to verify whether ocular and mucosal melanomas are associated with a higher risk of gastric metastases than thatof cutaneous melanomas.
Risk Synchronization in International Stock Markets
Helena Chuliá,Andrés D. Pinchao,Jorge M. Uribe 연세대학교 동서문제연구원 2018 Global economic review Vol.47 No.2
We explore international risk synchronization in global stock markets over the last two decades. To this end, we construct global indices of risk synchronization based on individual estimations of market risk and their aggregation via spatial correlations. We then use these indices to analyze the effects of several financial crises on market risk synchronization. Our results reveal different risk-profile dynamics for mature and emerging markets. Contrary to general reports, we also find that not all financial crises induce a higher level of synchronization among markets, at least in relative terms. Indeed, some crises had the opposite effect, that is, a decoupling of market risk.

Sweet`s syndrome (SS) is the most common acute neutrophilic dermatosis (ND), often idiopathic although it is associated with a wide range of diseases, especially neoplastic, infi ammatory and infectious. We report the case of SS occurring on a 43-year-old woman with a known seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA) since 20 year-old. After diagnosis, was treated by NSAIDs, methotrexate (MTX) and gold salts with complete remission. Medication was suspended. In 2002, develops disabling symmetric polyarthritis, unresponsive to corticosteroids, NSAIDs and sulfasalazine. MTX was avoided due to chronic cholestasis (autoantibodies to primary biliary cirrhosis were negative, IRM excluded primary sclerosing cholangitis and liver biopsy without cirrhosis or interface hepatitis). Initiated Anti-TNF alpha monotherapy (Adalimumab) in 2004 with complete remission. Suspended due to pregnancy in 2007 and stayed in remission without drugs until 2014. In 2012, she presented widespread painful mucocutaneous lesions involving the neck, trunk and upper limbs, with fever, arthralgia and deterioration of general condition, compatible with SS. Biopsy confi rmed diagnosis. Systematically excluded tuberculosis, lympho/myeloproliferative and other autoimmune diseases. Executed corticotherapy unsuccessfully, having developed iatrogenic diabetes. Improvement of lesions with dapsone, maintaining tolerable oral lesions. In 2014, worsening cutaneous lesions and initiates cyclosporine without any benefit. Under cyclosporine, progression to disabling oral lesions, and severe polyarthritis with DAS 28 5. 02 (high activity disease). The authors assumed SS secondary to RA and started anti-TNF alpha etanercept. Skin lesions improved within few days, with complete regression of all clinical and laboratory abnormalities. The authors argue the importance to consider SS in differential diagnosis of new mucocutaneus lesions in patients with known autoimmune diseases, including RA. The diagnosis should be based on clinical, laboratory and histological fi ndings of an acute febril neutrophilic dermatosis without vasculitis. In these cases, the treatment with anti-TNF alpha is an option.
tufA gene as molecular marker for freshwater Chlorophyceae
Helena Henriques Vieira,Inessa Lacativa Bagatini,Carla Marques Guinart,Armando Augusto Henriques Vieira 한국조류학회I 2016 ALGAE Vol.31 No.2
Green microalgae from the class Chlorophyceae represent a major biodiversity component of eukaryotic algae in continental water. Identification and classification of this group through morphology is a hard task, since it may present cryptic species and phenotypic plasticity. Despite the increasing use of molecular methods for identification of microorganisms, no single standard barcode marker is yet established for this important group of green microalgae. Some available studies present results with a limited number of chlorophycean genera or using markers that require many different primers for different groups within the class. Thus, we aimed to find a single marker easily amplified and with wide coverage within Chlorophyceae using only one pair of primers. Here, we tested the universality of primers for different genes (tufA, ITS, rbcL, and UCP4) in 22 strains, comprising 18 different species from different orders of Chlorophyceae. The ITS primers sequenced only 3 strains and the UCP primer failed to amplify any strain. We tested two pairs of primers for rbcL and the best pair provided sequences for 10 strains whereas the second one provided sequences for only 7 strains. The pair of primers for the tufA gene presented good results for Chlorophyceae, successfully sequencing 21 strains and recovering the expected phylogeny relationships within the class. Thus, the tufA marker stands out as a good choice to be used as molecular marker for the class.

About 70 % of our planet’s surface is covered by seas and oceans to which even 10 million tons of waste go every year. It makes these places the largest global landfills, containing up to 90 % of plastic waste. In this article we present the results of research on novel starch-based compositions expected to be more safe for the marine environment. For these purpose biopolymers such as, thermoplastic starch (TPS), polylactide (PLA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were reactive extruded and formed into films by high-pressure compressing. Their physical, thermal and mechanical properties were examined. Compositions were tested in seawater collected from the Gulf of Gdansk Baltic Sea. The obtained samples were completely disintegrated after 3 weeks. BOD test in the presence of bacteria pseudomonas augerinosa confirmed biodegradation of prepared compositions. The impact assessment of received materials on the marine environment was also evaluated by degradation tests in the presence of Phaeodactylum tricornutum diatom. Cells growth of Phaeodactylum tricornutum diatoms was only slightly inhibited in the presence of TPS/PLA/PVA compositions.
Explaining consumer use of renewable energy: determinants and gender and age moderator effects
Helena Martins Gonc alves,Adriana Viegas 한국마케팅과학회 2015 마케팅과학연구 Vol.25 No.3
There is scarce research in the domain of sustainable marketing and renewable energy (RE), despite the importance of this area. In this study, considering the theory of reasoned action (TRA), knowledge about RE (RE_KNOW), attitude toward RE (RE_ATT), willingness to pay more for RE (RE_WPM) and predisposition to ecological consumption behavior (ECCB) were analysed as determinants of the intention to use RE (RE_INT). The results of an online survey confirm all the determinants except RE_WPM. ECCB is the stronger determinant of RE_INT, followed by RE_ATT. A beliefs – attitude – intention link was established which supports the TRA. Furthermore, the moderator effects of sex and age were evaluated. For women and men, the proposed relations do not have significant differences. However, for the younger group, RE_ATT is the only significant determinant of RE_INT, whereas for the older, ECCB and RE_WPM are the significant ones.
