Grinding brick waste into powder for use as a supplementary cementitious material has shown to be a promising recycling method for the reuse of construction and demolition waste. However, the strength and durability of concrete containing recycled brick powder (RBP) will significantly decrease due to the poor pozzolanic activity of RBP, limiting its wider applications. This study attempted to overcome these defects through metakaolin (MK) addition. The hydration, compressive strength, durability, and environmental impact of eco-friendly mortars containing RBP and MK were investigated. The results showed that MK promoted the early-stage hydration of cement, creating a suitable hydration environment for the hydration of RBP at a later age. As a result, the volume fractions of low-density calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and high-density C-S-H increased according to the nanoindentation test results. In addition, the strength, chloride penetration resistance, and reinforcement bar corrosion resistance of the blended mortars obviously improved due to the synergistic effect of RBP and MK. Lastly, we achieved CO2 emissions that were 22.1 – 30.2% lower and energy consumption that was 21.4 – 27.0% lower by incorporating 20% RBP and 5 – 15% MK.

The stacking fault energy (SFE) of Fe-Mn alloys is studied by first-principles calculations with chemical disorder and order, nonmagnetic (NM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) configurations. It is found that Mn atom has a short-range effect on bothnonmagnetic and antiferromagnetic stacking faults (SF) plane. Mn atom reduces the intrinsic stacking fault energy (ISFE)and unstable stacking fault energy (USFE) when it is in the vicinity of the SF plane. Short-range effect is 42% in AFM configurationlarger than 12.6% in NM configuration when Mn atom is on SF plane. The phenomenon of generalized stackingfault energy (GSFE) curve and short-range effect are investigated by topological analysis and electron structures respectively. Furthermore, the twinning tendency is proven to be stronger in AFM γ-FeMn with increasing Mn concentration than otherdeformation mechanisms.

Background: The accessory tendon of the extensor hallucis longus (ATEHL) muscle is a common abnormal structure, and its clinical significance remains debatable. In this study, we provide the incidence of the ATEHL and characterize its morphological types in Asian cadavers and investigate its clinical applications. Methods: The tendons from 50 adult cadaveric feet, fixed in 10% formalin, were analyzed. We measured the length and width of both the ATEHL and the extensor hallucis brevis (EHB). Results: All dissected specimens had an ATEHL. The first metatarsophalangeal joint was surrounded by an accessory tendon that inserted onto the joint capsule and the dorsal base of the proximal phalanx. We classified the ATEHL into 3 types based on their directions. Differences in ATEHL type based on sex were not statistically significant. Conclusions: We found an ATEHL in all cadaveric specimens in this study. We surmise that the ATEHL acts as an antagonist with the EHB when the toe is extending, which might help prevent the occurrence of hallux valgus deformity.
