Lack of Effects of HER-2/neu on Prognosis in Colorectal Cancer: a Meta-analysis
Han, Jun,Meng, Qing-Yang,Liu, Xiao,Xi, Qiu-Lei,Zhuang, Qiu-Lin,Wu, Guo-Hao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.14
Background: The prognostic value of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2/neu) for survival of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) is still ambiguous. We therefore performed a meta-analysis to evaluate its prognostic significance. Materials and Methods: We searched the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases for published literature investigating associations between HER-2/neu status and overall survival of patients with CRC. A meta-analysis was performed using a DerSimonian-Laird model and publication bias was investigated by Begg's and Egger's tests. Subgroup analysis was also conducted according to the study design type, study quality score, cut-off value for HER-2/neu overexpression, publication region, patient number and publication year. Results: A total of 17 eligible studies involving 2,347 patients were identified for this meta-analysis. The combined hazard ratio (HR) was 1.31 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.96-1.79), suggesting that HER-2/neu overexpression was not significantly associated with overall survival of patients with CRC. However, subgroup analysis revealed that HER-2/neu overexpression had an unfavorable impact on survival when the analysis was restricted to subgroups of study quality score ${\leq}5 $(HR=1.56, 95%CI: 1.17-2.10), Asian patients (HR=1.74, 95%CI: 1.22-2.49), patient number ${\leq}106$ (HR=1.57, 95%CI: 1.01-2.44), publication year before 2003 (HR=1.59, 95%CI: 1.02-2.49), and prospectively designed study (HR=3.62, 95%CI: 1.42-9.24). The effect disappeared in subgroups of study quality scores > 5 (HR=0.69, 95%CI: 0.33-1.44), non Asian patients (HR=1.14, 95%CI: 0.77-1.70), patients' number > 106 (HR=1.07, 95%CI: 0.67-1.72), publication year after 2003 (HR=1.13, 95%CI: 0.76-1.69), and retrospectively designed study (HR=1.22, 95%CI: 0.89-1.67). Conclusions: Our meta-analysis suggests that HER-2/neu overexpression might not be a significantly prognostic indicator for patients with CRC. Further studies are required to confirm these results.
Is The Idiosyncratic Volatility Puzzle Driven By A Missing Factor?
Hanjun Kim,Bumjean Sohn 강원대학교 경영경제연구소 2024 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.15 No.1
Purpose - We investigate whether a potential missing pricing factor plays a significant role in the idiosyncratic volatility puzzle. Design/methodology/approach - We theoretically show how a missing pricing factor can affect the idiosyncratic volatility puzzle, and also show how to get around the problem empirically. We adopt the Fama-French five factor model for the estimation of the idiosyncratic risk and use randomly constructed portfolios as test assets. Findings - We find that a missing factor does not drive the idiosyncratic volatility puzzle. Thus, we conclude that the idiosyncratic volatility does affect the risk premium of its stock. Research implications or Originality - The Fama-French five factor model does a pretty good job in explaining the risk premiums of stocks, and it can be used to reliably estimate idiosyncratic risk of stocks.

In this study, mesoporous hollow silica spheres were synthesized using a polystyrene core and cetyltriammonium chloride (CTACl) as a pore template, and a low-cost water glass instead of expensive tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a precursor. In addition, the material was synthesized by varying the concentration of polystyrene. Later, the polystyrene core and CTACl were removed by firing in a high-temperature heat-treatment process. The synthesized product was analyzed by various methods, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and N2-sorption analysis. It was confirmed that the hollow silica sphere had a hexagonal structure with a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific area of 1623㎡/g.
The Dependence of Tropical Pacific SST Pattern on Shortwave Absorption by Water Vapor
Hanjun Kim,Sarah M. Kang,Angeline G. Pendergrass 한국기상학회 2021 한국기상학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.2021 No.10
Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project (CMIP) models exhibit large spread in the climatological value of atmospheric shortwave absorption (SWA). This study investigates both the possible causes and climatic impacts of this SWA inter-model spread. The inter-model spread of global-mean SWA largely originates from the inter-model difference in water vapor shortwave absorptivity. Hence, we alter the water vapor shortwave absorptivity in the Community Earth System Model, version 1, with Atmosphere Model, version 4 (CESM1-CAM4). The water vapor shortwave absorptivity enhancement leads to a La Niña-like cooling over the tropical Pacific. The La Niña-like cooling is attributed to the zonal asymmetry of climatological evaporative damping efficiency and the low cloud enhancement over the eastern basin. Complementary simulations with fixed SSTs imply that the low cloud enhancement primarily arises from atmospheric processes. Consistent with our experiments, the CMIP models with a higher global-mean SWA tend to exhibit the tropical Pacific toward a more La Niña-like mean state, while the implied mechanisms are different between CMIP5 and CMIP6. Eventually, our results highlight the possible role of water vapor shortwave absorptivity for shaping the mean-state climate patterns.
Improved Iterative Closest Point Algorithm using Truncated Signed Distance Function
Hanjun Kim,H. K. Hong,B. H. Lee 제어로봇시스템학회 2018 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2018 No.10
Truncated signed distance is one of the methods to represent 3D spatial information by using the distance from the surface of an object, and is mainly used for 3D dense reconstruction. When using truncated signed distance value for 3D reconstruction, iterative closest point algorithm is generally used for matching two point clouds. However, iterative closest point algorithm for 3D reconstruction uses only the geometric information of point clouds themselves. Due to lack of information in the surface structure, it is possible to fall in the local minimum or occur convergence failure in iteration process. To solve these problems, we use additional information from truncated signed distance function values. As we optimize the joint objective function composed of the geometric information and the truncated signed distance function information, it is possible to register two point clouds to be more robust in iterative closest point algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the conventional method using only a geometric information.
