Control of the VIV of a cantilevered square cylinder with free-end suction

Li Ying,Li Shiqing,Zeng Lingwei,Wang Hanfeng 한국풍공학회 2019 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.29 No.1

A steady slot suction near the free-end leading edge of a finite-length square cylinder was used to control its aerodynamic forces and vortex-induced vibration (VIV). The freestream oncoming flow velocity (U∞) was from 3.8 m/s to 12.8 m/s. The width of the tested cylinder d = 40 mm and aspect ratio H/d = 5, where H was the height of the cylinder. The corresponding Reynolds number was from 10,400 to 35,000. The tested suction ratio Q, defined as the ratio of suction velocity (Us) at the slot over the oncoming flow velocity at which the strongest VIV occurs (Uv), ranged from 0 to 3. It was found that the free-end slot suction can effectively attenuate the VIV of a cantilevered square cylinder. In the experiments, the RMS value of the VIV amplitude reduced quickly with Q increasing from 0 to 1, then kept approximately constant for Q ≥ 1. The maximum reduction of the VIV occurs at Q = 1, with the vibration amplitude reduced by 92% , relative to the uncontrolled case. Moreover, the overall fluctuation lift of the finite-length square cylinder was also suppressed with the maximum reduction of 87%, which occurred at Q = 1. It was interesting to discover that the free-end shear flow was sensitive to the slot suction near the leading edge. The turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) of the flow over the free end was the highest at Q = 1, which may result in the strongest mixing between the high momentum free-end shear flow and the near wake.

Genomic location and expression analysis of expansin gene family reveals the evolutionary and functional significance in Triticum aestivum

        Hanfeng Ding,Nana Li,Yanyan Pu,Yongchao Gong,Yanli Yu 한국유전학회 2016 Genes & Genomics Vol.38 No.11

The plant-specific expansin proteins constitute an ancient and major gene family known to have roles in regulating diverse biological processes in plants. Although the functions of many expansin genes have been identified in wheat and other species, little is known about the evolution and genomic locations of the expansin genes in wheat (Triticum aestivum). In this study, a total of 87 expansin genes were identified in the wheat genome, including 52 EXPAs, 42 EXPBs and 4 EXLAs. The EXLB gene was not found in the wheat genome. Phylogenetic tree and comparative analysis revealed amplification of the EXPBs in rice, maize and wheat. The predicted wheat expansins were distributed across 14 of 21 chromosomes with different densities, 3 tightly co-located clusters and 15 paralogous pairs, indicating that tandem duplication and segmental duplication events also played roles in the evolution of expansins in wheat. In addition, the gene structures and conserved protein domains of wheat expansins suggest high levels of conservation within the phylogenetic subgroups. Analysis of a published microarray database showed that most wheat expansin genes exhibit different expression levels in different tissues and developmental stages. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a genome- wide analysis of the wheat expansin gene family, which should provide valuable information for further elucidating the classification and putative functions of the entire gene family.

Adaptive Event-triggered Output Feedback Control for Large-scale Nonlinear Time-delay Systems With Dead-zone Input

        Weihao Pan,Xianfu Zhang,Hanfeng Li 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.7

This paper focuses on the event-triggered output feedback control problem for a class of large-scale nonlinear time-delay systems with asymmetric dead-zone input. Without knowing the precise priori knowledge of dead-zone parameters, an event-triggered output feedback control strategy is developed based on the dynamic gain design approach. It is proved by the Lyapunov analysis that all signals of the closed-loop system are globally bounded and the system states converge to a bounded region which is adjustable. Moreover, the Zeno behavior is avoided. Compared with the existing results, the considered nonlinear system allows more general growth condition, and the proposed event-triggered control strategy effectively handles dead-zone input, time delay and the more general nonlinear characteristic. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the validity of the proposed control strategy.

Fine Mapping of Pa-6 Gene for Purple Apiculus in Rice

        Xu Liu,Xu Sun,Wenying Wang,Hanfeng Ding,Wei Liu,Guangxian Li,Mingsong Jiang,Changxiang Zhu,Fangyin Yao 한국식물학회 2012 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.55 No.3

Purple apiculus is one of the important agronomic traits of rice. Single-segment substitution line (SSSL) W23-07-6-02-14 in the genetic background of an elite rice variety Huajingxian74 (HJX74) with the substituted interval of RM225-RM217-RM253 on the chromosome 6 was found to have purple apiculus (Pa). To map the gene governing Pa,W23-07-6-02-14 was crossed with the recipient HJX74 to develop an F2 secondary segregation population. The ratio of purple apiculus to green apiculus showed a good fit to 3:1 ratio, indicating that Pa was controlled by a major dominant gene. The gene locus for Pa was tentatively designated as Pa-6. Using 430 individuals from the F2 segregation population, the Pa-6 locus was mapped between two SSR markers RM19556and RM19561 with genetic distances of 0.2 and 0.3 cM,respectively. For fine mapping of the Pa-6 gene, a large F2:3segregation population of 3890 individuals was developed from F2 heterzygous plants in the RM19556-RM19561 region. Recombinant analyses further mapped the Pa-6 gene locus to an interval of 41.7-kb bounded L02 and RM19561. Sequence analysis of this 41.7-kb region revealed that it contains eleven open reading frames (ORFs), of which, ORF5 is classified as the one that is associated with the C (chromogen for anthocyanin) gene, it was presumed to be the candidate gene for Pa. This result provided a foundation of map-based cloning and function analysis of the Pa-6 gene.

Actuator Failure Compensation Control Scheme of the Nonlinear Triangular Systems by Static Gain Technique

        Fei Zhu,Xian-Fu Zhang,Hanfeng Li 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2020 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.18 No.9

In this paper, the technique of static gain as a new research approach is applied in the nonlinear triangular systems to investigate the issue of actuator fault. By employing the static gain technique, the nonlinear lowertriangular systems are converted into the form which is easy to find its Lyapunov function. The fault parameters of the actuator are subsequently processed by the efficient adaptive estimation tactic, after that, the goal of guaranteeing the global boundness of all closed-loop signals can be achieved by utilizing a state controller with the hyperbolicfunctions. Moreover, by adopting the same strategy, the actuator failure compensation problem is also solved for the nonlinear upper-triangular systems. Last but not least, the effectiveness of the design scheme is verified by two numerical simulation examples.

Fine Mapping of qHD8-1, a QTL Controlling the Heading Date, to a 26-kb DNA Fragment in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

        Chengguo Pei,Xu Liu,Wenying Wang,Hanfeng Ding,Mingsong Jiang,Guangxian Li,ChangXiang Zhu,FuJiang Wen,Fangyin Yao 한국식물학회 2011 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.54 No.3

Heading date is one of the importance agronomic traits. A library consisting of 1,123 single segment substitution lines (SSSLs) in the same genetic background of an elite rice variety Huajingxian 74 (HJX74) was evaluated for heading date (HD). From this library, the SSSL W06-26-35-1-5-2 with the substituted interval of PSM152–PSM154–PSM155–RM25–RM547–RM72–RM404 was found having a gene, which performed stable and late heading in the different environments of Shandong and Hainan provinces. To map the gene governing heading date, the SSSL W06-26-35-1-5-2 was crossed with the recipient HJX74 to develop an F_2 segregating population. The distribution of late and early heading plants in this population fitted a segregation ratio of 3:1, indicating the late heading was controlled by a dominant gene. The gene locus for heading date was tentatively designated as qHD8-1. Using a random sample of 460 individuals from the F_2population, the qHD8-1 was narrowed down to a region flanking by two SSR markers PSM155 and RM547. For fine mapping of qHD8-1, a large F_2:3 segregating population of 3,000 individuals were developed from F_2 plants heterozygous in the PSM155–RM547 region. Recombinants analysis further mapped qHD8-1 to an interval of region 26 kb with markers RM22492 and P23 bounded on the left and right sides, respectively. Sequence analysis of this 26-kb fragment revealed that it contains five putative open reading frames, which were regarded as candidates of qHD8-1. These results will be useful in cloning of the qHD8-1 gene
