Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the temperament and character of juvenile delinquents, and to explore the effect of those factors on juvenile delinquent behavior. Methods : 128 male and 29 female juvenile delinquents on probation, and 66 male and 69 female students in the lOth and the 11th grade, completed Junior Temperament and Character Inventory (JTCI), anxiety, depression scales and Latent Delinquency Questionnaire. Results : Male juvenile delinquents showed significantly higher 'novelty seeking', and lower 'harm avoidance' and 'persistence' in JTCI subscales, compared to normal control group. Stepwise multiple-regression analysis showed that 'novelty seeking'and 'harm avoidance' were significantly predicting juvenile delinquent behavior. In the case of the female adolescents, delinquent group was significantly lower 'harm avoidance' than normal groups, and stepwise multiple regression analysis showed 'self-transcendence' was the only significant predicting variable for juvenile delinquent behavior. Conclusion : Based on the results, temperament was related to the juvenile delinquent behavior especially for male delinquent adolescents.

In the network with small cell radius, a mobile terminal which has large mobility should perform frequent handover. This requires that handover mechanism must be done fastly. As cell size is smaller, signal power level is lower Handover is implemented by the network to give the users freedom of motion beyond a limited wireless coverage area while they are communication. The handover is procedure by which a user's radio link is transferred from one radio port to another through the network without an interruption of the user collection. The currently existing method for handover uses an algorithm, in which the bandwidth corresponding to the adjacent cells is supposed to be allocated. However, this method leads to the problem of requiring bandwidth allocation for many-unknown cells, due to the lack of information toward moving direction in mobile terminal. In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm for solving those problem above, based on both path rerouting handover and soft hangover mechanism with wireless ATM. Thus, only the bandwidth for corresponding adjacent cell, that is from estimation, is chosen to be reserved; this method drastically reduces the waste of bandwidth, and improves the efficiency in performance. Comparing with static bandwidth allocation algorithm, the proposed algorithm make a bandwidth allocation more efficient. As for the QoS, it has been shown that proposed algorithm shows better performance than that with static bandwidth allocation algorithm.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to assess the psychometric properties and to investigate factor structure of the Korean version of Fear Survey Schedule for Children (FSSC-K). Methods : 397 male and 366 female students in elementary, middle, and high school completed the FSSC-K, a anxiety scale, and a self-esteem scale to assess psychometric properties. 403 male and 175 female outpatients completed FSSC-K for Confirmatory factor analysis. Results : First, psychometric properties of the FSSC-K compared favorably with that of the FSSC-R. Second, students in elementary school were significantly higher in total score of the FSSC-K than in high school and females significantly higher than males. Third, a seven-factor solution provided the best conceptual fit for responding on the FSSC-K. Fourth, seven-factor model was most appropriate in result of confirmatory factor analysis in clinic-referred sample. Conclusion : It is suggested that the FSSC-K have a good reliability and validity and seven-factor model was most appropriate in Korean children and adolescents.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress coping strategies and psychological charactehstics, such as combined psychopathology and tendency of symptom interpretation, in patients with somatization disorder. Methods : Thirty patients meeting the criteria of DSM-IV somatization disorder were compared with thirty controls. We evaluated the subjects using Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), Somato-Sensory Amplification Scale (SSAS), Symptom Interpretation Questionnaire (SIQ), and The Ways of Stress Coping Questionnaire (SCQ). Independent t-test and Pearson correlation analysis were used. Results : From the results of SCL-90-R subscales, the scores of somatization, obsession-compulsion, depression, anxiety, and psychoticism were significantly higher in patients with somatization disorder than nonnal controls. Somatization disorder patients had greater amplification of physical sensation in SSAS and significantly higher score in physical interpretation of SIQ compared with psychological or environmental interpretation, In the SCQ of somatization disorder patients, we observed generallylower levels of total coping scores than the control group and significant positive correlation between passive coping style of SCQ and psychological interpretation of SIQ. Conclusion : These results show that patients with somatization disorder have various psychopathology, greater amplification of physical sensation, physical interpretation tendency of symptoms, and insufficient copying strategy.

Identifying the extracellular metabolites of microorganisms in fresh vegetables is industrially useful for assessing the quality of processed foods. Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (PCC) is a plant pathogenic bacterium that causes soft rot disease in cabbages. This microbial species in plant tissues can emit specific volatile molecules with odors that are characteristic of the host cell tissues and PCC species. In this study, we used headspace solid-phase microextraction followed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) to identify volatile compounds (VCs) in PCC-inoculated cabbage at different storage temperatures. HS-SPME-GC-MS allowed for recognition of extracellular metabolites in PCC-infected cabbages by identifying specific volatile metabolic markers. We identified 4-ethyl-5-methylthiazole and 3-butenyl isothiocyanate as markers of fresh cabbages, whereas 2,3-butanediol and ethyl acetate were identified as markers of soft rot in PCC-infected cabbages. These analytical results demonstrate a suitable approach for establishing non-destructive plant pathogen-diagnosis techniques as alternatives to standard methods, within the framework of developing rapid and efficient analytical techniques for monitoring plant-borne bacterial pathogens. Moreover, our techniques could have promising applications in managing the freshness and quality control of cabbages.

To evaluate the modifying effect of Kwao Kreu, Pueraria mirifica (PM) well-known as a rejuvenating folk medicine from Thailand, peri- and post-natal studies were carried out in rats. PM extract was administered to pregnant Sprague Dawley (SD) rats by oral gavage from gestation 6 (GD 6) to postnatal day 21 (PND 21). The amount of administered in this study was 0.042, 0.42 and 4.2 mg/kg/day, respectively. There were no treatment related changes of dams in deaths, clinical signs, and parturition. Treatment related changes in body weight, food consumption and lactation of dams were not observed. F1 fetuses in external abnormality, physical development, reflex/sensory functions and behavioral development were not found. No adults and F1 fetuses in organ weight was found with the exception of vagina and uterus of F1 fetuses. The results showed that PM extract, up to 4.2 mg, had no adverse effects on the peri- and post-natal development of rats. Therefore, PM extract has no adverse effects on peri- and post-natal development of rats.
