      • Bag Carrying Method during Level Walking Affects Perceived Exertion Ratings without Altering Energy Cost, Oxygen Consumption, and Heart Rate in Healthy Adults: A Randomized Crossover Trial

        Objectives: Little is known regarding the associations between Borg’s rating of perceived exertion (RPE), cardiopulmonary responses, and carrying bags while level walking. We investigated the changes in RPE and cardiopulmonary responses, including energy cost (EC), oxygen consumption (VdotO₂), and heart rate (HR), when walking with a bag. Methods: This randomized crossover study included 10 healthy adults (aged 21–22 years). Four days of experiments were performed at intervals of 1–2 weeks. The participants walked on a level treadmill while carrying a bag with a strap weighting 5 kg, placed diagonally on their shoulders (DS), vertically on their shoulders (VS), vertically in one hand (VH), and on their backs using both shoulders (BS) for 20 min. Walking speed was stable among all experiments, and was set to the participants’ preferred speed. Results: No significant differences between bag carrying methods regarding EC, VdotO₂, and %HRreserve (based on HR) were observed, whereas RPE respiratory (RPE-resp) and RPE leg muscle (RPE-leg) scores varied based on bag carrying method used. RPE-resp score was significantly lower for DS and BS than VH (both p < 0.0083); however, no significant difference was observed when each RPE-leg score was compared. Conclusions: We found that RPE-resp score varied, whereas no changes in EC, VdotO₂, and HR were observed in healthy adults while walking with different bag carrying methods. Additionally, of all bag carrying methods assessed, the highest RPE-resp score was observed when individuals carried a bag with one-hand at their side.

      • Structure and Photoinduced Electron Transfer Dynamics of a Series of Hydrogen-Bonded Supramolecular Complexes Composed of Electron Donors and a Saddle-Distorted Diprotonated Porphyrin

        <P>The excited-state photodynamics of <I>intra</I>supramolecular photoinduced electron transfer was investigated in a series of hydrogen-bonded supramolecular complexes composed of diprotonated 2,3,5,7,8,10,12,13,15,17,18,20-dodecaphenylporphyrin (H<SUB>4</SUB>DPP<SUP>2+</SUP>) and electron donors bearing a carboxylate group. The formation of supramolecular complexes was examined by spectroscopic measurements. The binding constants obtained by spectroscopic titration indicate the strong binding (10<SUP>8</SUP>−10<SUP>10</SUP> M<SUP>−2</SUP>) even in a polar and coordinating solvent, benzonitrile (PhCN). The crystal structure of the supramolecular assembly using ferrocenecarboxylate (FcCOO<SUP>−</SUP>) was determined to reveal a new structural motif involving two-point and single-point hydrogen bonding among saddle-distorted H<SUB>4</SUB>DPP<SUP>2+</SUP> dication and two FcCOO<SUP>−</SUP> anions. Femtosecond laser flash photolysis was applied to investigate the photodynamics in the hydrogen-bonded supramolecular complexes. Rate constants obtained were evaluated in light of the Marcus theory of electron transfer, allowing us to determine the reorganization energy and the electronic coupling matrix constant of photoinduced electron transfer and back electron transfer to be 0.68 eV and 43 cm<SUP>−1</SUP>, respectively. The distance dependence of electron transfer was also examined by using a series of ferrocenecarboxylate derivatives connected by linear phenylene linkers, and the distance dependence of the rate constant of electron transfer (<I>k</I><SUB>ET</SUB>) was determined to be <I>k</I><SUB>ET</SUB> = <I>k</I><SUB>0</SUB> exp(−β<I>r</I>), in which β = 0.64 Å<SUP>−1</SUP>.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2010/jacsat.2010.132.issue-29/ja103889f/production/images/medium/ja-2010-03889f_0011.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja103889f'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

        韓国の四年制大学における母語話者日本語教師の役割と能力-韓国人教師及び母語話者日本語教師を調査対象として-

      • Discrete Optimization for Vibration Design of Composite Plates by Using Lamination Parameters

        A design method is proposed to optimize the stacking sequence of laminated composite plates for desired vibration characteristics. The objective functions are the natural frequencies of the laminated plates, and three types of optimization problems are studied where the fundamental frequency and the difference of two adjacent frequencies are maximized, and the difference between the target and actual frequencies is minimized. The design variables are a set of discrete values of fiber orientation angles with prescribed increment in the layers of the plates. The four lamination parameters are used to describe the bending property of a symmetrically laminated plate, and are optimized by a gradient method in the first stage. A new technique is introduced in the second stage to convert from the optimum four lamination parameters into the stacking sequence that is composed of the optimum fiber orientation angles of all the layers. Plates are divided into sub-domains composed of the small number of layers and designed sequentially from outer domains. For each domain, the optimum angles are determined by minimizing the errors between the optimum lamination parameters obtained in the first step and the parameters for all possible discrete stacking sequence designs. It is shown in numerical examples that this design method can provide with accurate optimum solutions for the stacking sequence of vibrating composite plates with various boundary conditions.

        韓国の大学における中級作文授業の現況と課題 -非母語話者日本語教師の授業を中心として-

        The purpose of this research is to clarify the current status of writing classes in Korean universities. For that purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted for nonnative speaker teachers, and then analyzed qualitatively. As a result, the items targeted by most teachers in intermediate writing classes were “learn intermediate-level sentence patterns”, “enable to write sentences of various themes”, “learn about composition of sentences and paragraphs”, “learn Intermediate Vocabulary”. In the classes, problems such as “many students feel a burden of writing”, “many students are not used to create long sentences”, “many students cannot construct sentences” was. To solve the problem, the teacher used nerve to “teach according to the level of each person” and “selection of the theme of writing”. The current state of intermediate composition writing class has a big difference between learning content and student level, and it is a class that it is difficult to achieve even if the teacher gives a learning objective suitable for subjects of intermediate level composition. Therefore, measures to solve problems, such as establishment of writing subjects that play a role as a bridge from elementary level to intermediate level, and implementation of team teaching, are considered to be necessary. .

        ティームティーチングにおける母語話者教師の要件 -韓国四年制大学の教養日本語授業を対象として-

        This study aims to examine what requirements native Japanese teachers (NT) are needed to be an ideal teacher in a team teaching context. This research was conducted in a team teaching class which involved a native Japanese teacher. 294 Korean college students who had taken a Japanese class were asked to complete questionnaires regarding requirements of NT. Data were analyzed by factor analysis and one-way ANOVA. The findings revealed that five factors were extracted: consideration of the learners, ability for classroom administration, pronunciation and conversation education ability, ability for culture education, ability for progress of the class. As a result of the one-way ANOVA, a significantly different thing was shown with the "ability for progress of the class" among the five groups. Significant differences was found between learners who had been studying Japanese for more than three years and those with less than three years experience. In addition,looking at an earlier studies showed as that the "ability for culture education" was a requirement of a NT and was particularly important in TT. 本研究では、大学で行われている教養日本語におけるティー厶ティーチング(以下、TT)に焦点を当て、授業 を行う母語話者教師(以下、NT)に学習者はどのような要件を求めているかについて、因子分析を用いて明ら かにし、学習者の求める理想的なTTにおける母語話者教師モデルを示した。さらに、抽出された教師の要件 が、全ての学習者に支持されているかを検証するために、学習者を学習歴別に分類し、分散分析により集団 間の差を検証した。 分析の結果、学習者が求めるNTの要件として、Ⅰ「学習者への配慮」、Ⅱ「教室運営能力」、Ⅲ「発音·会話 教育能力」、Ⅳ「文化教育能力」、Ⅴ「授業の進行能力」の5つの因子が抽出された。さらに、学習歴別の集団 間の差を分散分析により検証した結果、第5因子において学習歴3年未満の学習者と3年以上の学習者の間で 有意差が見られた。このことから、第1因子から第4因子は全ての学習者に支持され、第5因子は学習歴が3年 未満の学習者には同等に支持される要件であることがわかった。 さらに、先行研究との比較により、「文化教育能力」が教養日本語においてTTを行うNTに特に求められる 要件であることが明らかとなった。

      • Applying Geostatistics to Acoustic Surveys for Stock Assessment of Walleye Pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) off Hokkaido

        Since the late 1980's, a new statistical method called geostatistics has been employed in fisheries research. The main feature of this method is adopting the idea of autocorrelation among the data. Geostatistics is able to handle autocorrelated data and reduce standard error of the estimator. The practical procedures of applying 1- D transitive theory of geostatistics to the results of the acoustic survey for juvenile walleye pollock distributed along the southeastern coast of Hokkaido are presented. By adopting geostatistics, the confidence of the estimated abundance was three times higher than classical statistics.
