        Evaluation of coat color inheritance and production performance for crossbreed from Chinese indigenous Chenghua pig crossbred with Berkshire

        Objective: This work was to determine coat inheritance and evaluate production performance for crossbred pigs from Berkshire×Chenghua (BC) compared with Chinese indigenous Chenghua (CH) pigs. Methods: The coat color phenotypes were recorded for more than 16,000 pigs, and the genotypes of melanocortin 1 receptor (MCIR) gene were identified by sequencing. The reproductive performance of 927 crossbred BC F4 gilts and 320 purebred CH gilts was recorded. Sixty pigs of each breed were randomly selected at approximately 60 days of age to determine growth performance during fattening period, which lasted for 150 days for BC pigs and 240 days for CH pigs. At the end of the fattening period, 30 pigs of each breed were slaughtered to determine carcass composition and meat quality. Results: The coat color of BC pigs exhibits a “dominant black” hereditary pattern, and all piglets derived from boars or sows genotyped ED1ED1 homozygous for MC1R gene showed a uniform black coat phenotype. The BC F4 gilts displayed a good reproductive performance, showing a higher litter and tear size and were heavier at farrowing litter and at weaning litter than the CH gilts, but they reached puberty later than the CH gilts. BC F4 pigs exhibited improved growth and carcass characteristics with a higher average daily live weight gain, lower feed-to-gain ratio, and higher carcass lean meat rate than CH pigs. Like CH pigs, BC F4 pigs produced superior meat-quality characteristics, showing ideal pH and meat-color values, high intramuscular fat content and water-holding capacity, and acceptable musclefiber parameters. C18:1, C16:0, C18:0, and C18:2 were the main fatty acids in M. longissimus lumborum in the two breeds, and a remarkably high polyunsaturated/saturated fatty acid ratio of ~0.39 was observed in the BC F4 pigs. Conclusion: The BC F4 pigs exhibit a uniform black coat pattern and acceptable total production performance.       • The Output-voltage-ripple Analysis of Dual Active Bridge Converter Based on a Novel Ripple Recovery Technique

        This paper proposes a novel ripple recovery technique for the dual active bridge (DAB) converter. The proposed technique reveals the limitation of the conventional discrete-time modeling method in the output-voltage-ripple analysis of the DAB converter. Two previously unrecognized output voltage states are recovered by the ripple recovery technique, which can reveal the detailed information of the output voltage. The output-voltage-ripple analysis under different parameters can be utilized to discover the key parameters to the output voltage ripple. Besides, the parameter borders under different ripple requirement are obtained, which can give a guidance for the practical parameter design. Finally, the simulation and theoretical analysis are verified by the experimental results.

        Beam position measurement system at HIRFL-CSRm

        Beam position measurement system can not only provide the beam position monitoring, but also be used for global orbit correction to reduce beam loss risk and maximize acceptance. The Beam Position Monitors (BPM) are installed along the synchrotron to acquire beam position with the front-end electronics and data acquisition system (DAQ). To realize high precision orbit measurement in the main heavy ion synchrotron and cooling storage ring of heavy-ion research facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL-CSRm), a series of alignment and calibration work has been implemented on the BPM and its DAQ system. This paper analyzed the tests performed in the laboratory as well as with beam based on the developed algorithms and hardware. Several filtering algorithms were designed and implemented on the acquired BPM raw data, then the beam position and resolution were calculated and analyzed. The results show that the position precision was significantly improved from more than 100 μm to about 50 μm by implementing the new designed filtering algorithm. According to the analyzation of the measurement results and upcoming physical requirements, further upgrade scheme for the BPM DAQ system of CSRm based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology was proposed and discussed.

      • Analysis of Harmonic Transfer Characteristics and RAPF Installation Strategy in Power Systems

        Power quality has become a new threat because of the distributed nature of disturbances caused by nonlinear loads and DGs. When harmonics are transmitted in a distribution network, they’ll be magnified by resonance between line capacitance and inductance, then worsen the harmonic in power systems. In this paper, a mathematical model for harmonic transfer characteristics of power system feeders is firstly established. Meanwhile, analyze the harmonic voltage propagation caused respectively by the background harmonic voltage source and harmonic current source, which provides an important theoretical basis for the treatment of harmonic pollution. In addition, a strategy is proposed to guide the optimal installation position and setting of external resistance of RAPF to achieve the minimum total distortion rate in the entire distribution network system, which can damp the harmonic resonant effectively. Simulation and experiments have been performed to verify the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

        Influence of meadow changes on net primary productivity: a case study in a typical steppe area of XilinGol of Inner Mongolia in China

        In this research, we monitored the change (degeneration or improvement) in meadow vegetation over an approximately 12-year timespan in the typical steppe area of Inner Mongolia in China. Linear trend analysis (LTA) and the MOD13Q1-NDVI time series data were used to evaluate the changes in the net primary productivity (NPP) during the vegetation growing seasons between 2000 and 2011. The Carnegie Ames Stanford Approach (CASA) model was used, and the relationship between the vegetation change and meadow NPP was analyzed and validated with field data collected in 2011. The results indicate the following: (1) the growth status and NPP of the meadow vegetation in the typical steppe area of Inner Mongolia varied greatly for each year without an obvious linear trend between the change of meadow vegetation and NPP; (2) additional analysis with field measured data, collected in 2011, revealed that the average dry weight of the above-ground biomass in the area where the NPP had increased was less than that in the area where it had decreased; the dry weight of the above-ground biomass of the meadow vegetation that showed degeneration was greater than that of the meadow vegetation that showed improvement; (3) a possible reason for the phenomenon mentioned in (2) was that the government protected the degenerated meadows with less biomass, which led to vegetation growth and increased NPP, whereas the meadows that had not been degenerated or showed only minor degeneration and still received rich biomass were over-grazed, causing the NPP to decline.

        Sensitive and Rapid Detection of Giardia lamblia Infection in Pet Dogs using Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification

        Giardia lamblia is recognized as one of the most prevalent parasites in dogs. The present study aimed to establish a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for rapid and specific detection of G. lamblia from dogs. The fecal samples were collected and prepared for microscopic analysis, and then the genomic DNA was extracted directly from purified cysts. The concentration of DNA samples of G. lamblia were diluted by 10-fold serially ranging from 10<SUP>-1</SUP> to 10<SUP>-5</SUP> ng/μl for LAMP and PCR assays. The LAMP assay allows the amplification to be finished within 60 min under isothermal conditions of 63˚C by employing 6 oligonucleotide primers designed based on G. lamblia elongation factor 1 alpha (EF1α) gene sequence. Our tests showed that the specific amplification products were obtained only with G. lamblia, while no amplification products were detected with DNA of other related protozoans. Sensitivity evaluation indicated that the LAMP assay was sensitive 10 times more than PCR. It is concluded that LAMP is a rapid, highly sensitive and specific DNA amplification technique for detection of G. lamblia, which has implications for effective control and prevention of giardiasis.

        Designing Waterproof and Breathable Fabric Based on Polyurethane/Silica Dioxide Web Fabricated by Electrospinning

        In this research, non-fluorinated polyurethane/silica dioxide (PU/SiO2) nanofibrous webs were prepared byelectrospinning and hydrothermal treatment. Then the developed webs were laminated onto polyester woven fabrics toexamine their practical applications in the textile area. Investigation for surface morphology, pore size, water contact angle(WCA) and hydrostatic pressure was done in detail to examine the waterproofness and breathability of the PU/SiO2 nanofiberwebs and the laminated fabrics. The results showed that when Tetraethoxysilane concentration in electrospun solution was6 wt%, the fibrous web exhibited the desirable morphology, mechanical properties and hydrophobicity. At this time, SiO2nanoparticles dispersed uniformly on and in PU nanofibers and fibers had a more uniform diameter. The composite laminatedfabrics produced exhibited a value for hydrostatic pressure of 23.5 kPa with water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of5.19 kg/m2/day.

        Sequence Analysis of Mitochondrial Genome of Toxascaris leonina from a South China Tiger

        Toxascaris leonina is a common parasitic nematode of wild mammals and has significant impacts on the protection of rare wild animals. To analyze population genetic characteristics of T. leonina from South China tiger, its mitochondrial (mt) genome was sequenced. Its complete circular mt genome was 14,277 bp in length, including 12 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions. The nucleotide composition was biased toward A and T. The most common start codon and stop codon were TTG and TAG, and 4 genes ended with an incomplete stop codon. There were 13 intergenic regions ranging 1 to 10 bp in size. Phylogenetically, T. leonina from a South China tiger was close to canine T. leonina. This study reports for the first time a complete mt genome sequence of T. leonina from the South China tiger, and provides a scientific basis for studying the genetic diversity of nematodes between different hosts.

        Study on Coupling of Glass Powder and Steel Fiber as Silica Fume Replacement in Ultra-High Performance Concrete: Concrete Sleeper Admixture Case Study

        To investigate the substitution of silica fume (SF) with the coupling of glass powder (GP) and steel fiber (STF), a concrete sleeper admixture (CSA) contains SF is considered as the reference concrete admixture. The use of high SF content in CSAs has negative effects on concrete rheology. Furthermore, it decreases the extensive use of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) in concrete markets that can mainly be caused by the limitation in available resources and the high cost of SF production. The substitution of SF with GP is insufficient; therefore, the possibility of using the coupling of GP and STF as a SF replacement has been researched. In this regard, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% steel fiber by concrete volume and 5%, 10% and 15% glass powder and silica fume by weight of cement content have been investigated. It is found that concrete admixture with the coupling of STF and SF improves all the characteristics of the concrete. Additionally, the coupling effects of GP and STF are better than that of the SF and STF. Based on the synthetic consideration of the performance and cost, the combination of 10% GP and 1.5% STF is optimal in case of CSA mechanical performance.

        Nonlinear vibration analysis of composite laminated trapezoidal plates

        Nonlinear vibration characteristics of composite laminated trapezoidal plates are studied. The geometric nonlinearity of the plate based on the von Karman's large deformation theory is considered, and the finite element method (FEM) is proposed for the present nonlinear modeling. Hamilton's principle is used to establish the equation of motion of every element, and through assembling entire elements of the trapezoidal plate, the equation of motion of the composite laminated trapezoidal plate is established. The nonlinear static property and nonlinear vibration frequency ratios of the composite laminated rectangular plate are analyzed to verify the validity and correctness of the present methodology by comparing with the results published in the open literatures. Moreover, the effects of the ply angle and the length-high ratio on the nonlinear vibration frequency ratios of the composite laminated trapezoidal plates are discussed, and the frequency-response curves are analyzed for the different ply angles and harmonic excitation forces.
