c-fos mRNA Expression in the Vestibular System following Hypergravity Stimulation in Rats

        Jin Guang-Shi,Lee Jae-Hyo,Lee Jae-Hee,Lee Moon-Young,Kim Min-Sun,Jin Yuan Zhe,Song Jeong-Hoon,Park Byung-Rim The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2007 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.11 No.1

Altered environmental gravity, including both hypo- and hypergravity, may result in space adaptation syndrome. To explore the characteristics of this adaptive plasticity, the expression of immediate early gene c-fos mRNA in the vestibular related tissues following an exposure to hypergravity stimulus was determined in rats. The animals were subjected to a force of 2 g (twice earth's gravity) for 1, 3, or 12 h, and were examined poststimulus at 0, 2, 6, 12, and 24 h. RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) and real-time quantitative RT-PCR were adopted to analyze temporal changes in the expression of c-fos mRNA. The hypergravity stimulus increased the expression of c-fos mRNA in the vestibular ganglion, medial vestibular nucleus, inferior vestibular nucleus, hippocampus, cerebellum, and cortex. The peak expression occurred at 0 h poststimulation in animals stimulated with hypergravity for 1 h, and at 6 h poststimulus in those stimulated for 3 h. In contrast, those stimulated for 12 h exhibited dual peaks at 0 and 12 h poststimulus. Bilateral labyrinthectomy markedly attenuated the degree of c-fos mRNA expression. Glutamate receptor antagonist also dramatically attenuated the degree of c-fos mRNA expression. These results indicate that expression of c-fos mRNA in response to hypergravity occurs in the vestibular related tissues of the central nervous system, in which peripheral vestibular receptors and glutamate receptors play an important role. The temporal pattern of c-fos mRNA expression depended on the duration of the hypergravity stimulus.

Role of peripheral vestibular receptors in the control of blood pressure following hypotension

Jin, Guang-Shi,Li, Xiang-Lan,Jin, Yuan-Zhe,Kim, Min Sun,Park, Byung Rim The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2018 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.22 No.4

Hypotension is one of the potential causes of dizziness. In this review, we summarize the studies published in recent years about the electrophysiological and pharmacological mechanisms of hypotension-induced dizziness and the role of the vestibular system in the control of blood pressure in response to hypotension. It is postulated that ischemic excitation of the peripheral vestibular hair cells as a result of a reduction in blood flow to the inner ear following hypotension leads to excitation of the central vestibular nuclei, which in turn may produce dizziness after hypotension. In addition, excitation of the vestibular nuclei following hypotension elicits the vestibulosympathetic reflex, and the reflex then regulates blood pressure by a dualcontrol (neurogenic and humoral control) mechanism. In fact, recent studies have shown that peripheral vestibular receptors play a role in the control of blood pressure through neural reflex pathways. This review illustrates the dual-control mechanism of peripheral vestibular receptors in the regulation of blood pressure following hypotension.

The Three-wavelength PR3+:YLF Laser at 604 nm 607 nm and 640 nm with Fabry-Perot Etalon

        Long Jin,Yu-Shi Jin,Yuan Dong,Qing-Song Li,Yong-Ji Yu,Shu-Tao Li,Guang-Yong Jin 한국광학회 2018 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.2 No.5

A three-wavelength Pr3+:YLF laser at 604 nm, 607 nm and 640 nm simultaneously output by Fabry-Perot (F-P) etalon has been obtained. A 444 nm blue laser diode is used for pumping the Pr3+:YLF crystal, and a 0.1 mm F-P etalon is inserted in the resonator to select wavelength. The theoretical model of three-wavelength Pr3+:YLF laser is established, by adjusting the tilt angle of the etalon, the transmittances of the different wavelengths can be controlled, and the threshold values can be made to equalize by controlling the loss among different wavelengths. In the experiment, when the tilt angle of etalon is 9° and the optimized length of resonator is 48 mm, the total output power of 25 mW at the three-wavelength is achieved at incident pump power of 7.5 W.

Development of a position sensitive CsI(Tl) crystal array

        Shi, Guo-Zhu,Chen, Ruo-Fu,Chen, Kun,Shen, Ai-Hua,Zhang, Xiu-Ling,Chen, Jin-Da,Du, Cheng-Ming,Hu, Zheng-Guo,Fan, Guang-Wei Korean Nuclear Society 2020 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.52 No.4

A position-sensitive CsI(Tl) crystal array coupled with the multi-anode position sensitive photomultiplier tube (PS-PMT), Hamamatsu H8500C, has been developed at the Institute of Modern Physics. An effective, fast, and economical readout circuit based on discretized positioning circuit (DPC) bridge was designed for the 64-channel multi-anode flat panel PSPMT. The horizontal and vertical position resolutions are 0.58 mm and 0.63 mm respectively for the 1.0 × 1.0 × 5.0 ㎣ CsI(Tl) array, and the horizontal and vertical position resolutions are 0.86 mm and 0.80 mm respectively for the 2.0 × 2.0 × 10.0 ㎣ CsI(Tl) array. These results show that the CsI(Tl) crystal array with low cost could be applied in the fields of medical imaging and high-resolution gamma camera.

      • Detection of epistatic interaction of two QTLs, <i>gw8.1</i> and <i>gw9.1</i>, underlying grain weight using nearly isogenic lines in rice

        Jin, Feng-Xue,Ji, Shi-Dong,Xie, Xiao-Bo,Kang, Ju-Won,Ju, Hong-Guang,Ahn, Sang-Nag Japanese Society of Breeding 2011 Breeding science Vol.61 No.1

<P>Grain weight (GW) is one of the most important targets for grain yield in rice breeding. In previous studies, two quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for GW, <I>gw8.1</I> and <I>gw9.1</I>, have been identified using progeny derived from a cross between the <I>japonica</I> cultivar Hwaseong and <I>Oryza rufipogon </I>(IRGC 105491). To test whether these quantitative trait loci (QTLs) have an epistatic interaction, we developed an F2 population by crossing two nearly isogenic lines (NILs) harboring <I>gw8.1</I> and <I>gw9.1</I>. Simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers tightly linked to the QTLs were used to select F3 QTL-NILs from the F2 population. A two-way ANOVA revealed an epistatic interaction between the two QTLs in the F2 population (<I>P</I> = 0.0084). This interaction was confirmed by an analysis of F3 QTL-NILs indicating that both QTLs are involved in the same genetic mechanism controlling GW. The <I>gw8.1</I> QTL was further mapped between two SSR markers, RM23204 and RM23211, which are 110.1 kb apart. To our knowledge, this is the first report using QTL-NILs to reveal an epistatic interaction between QTLs for GW.</P>

      • Upregulation of STK15 in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinomas in a Mongolian Population

        Chen, Guang-Lie,Hou, Gai-Ling,Sun, Fei,Jiang, Hong-Li,Xue, Jin-Feng,Li, Xiu-Shen,Xu, En-Hui,Gao, Wei-Shi,Cao, Jian-Ping Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: The STK15 gene located on chromosome 20q13.2 encodes a centrosome-associated kinase critical for regulated chromosome segregation and cytokinesis. Recent studies have demonstrated STK15 to be significantly associated with many tumors, with aberrant expression obseved in many human malignancies. The purpose of this study was to investigate expression of STK15 in esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (ESCCs) in a Mongolian population. Methods: Two non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms in the coding region of STK15, rs2273535 (Phe31Ile) and rs1047972 (Val57Ile) were assessed in 380 ESCC patients and 380 healthy controls. We also detected STK15 mRNA expression in 39 esophageal squamous cell carcinomas and corresponding adjacent tissues by real time PCR. Results: rs2273535 showed a significant association with ESCC in our Mongolian population (rs227353, P allele = 0.0447, OR (95%CI) = 1.259 (1.005~1.578)). Real time PCR analysis of ESCC tissues showed that expression of STK15 mRNA in cancer tissues was higher than in normal tissues (p = 0.013). Conclusions: Our study showed that functional SNPs in the STK15 gene are associated with ESCC in a Mongolian population and up-regulation of STK15 mRNAoccurs in ESCC tumors compared adjacent normal tissues. STK15 may thus have an important role in the prognosis of ESCC and be a potential therapeutic target.

Comparison of demineralized bone matrix and hydroxyapatite as carriers of Escherichia coli recombinant human BMP-2

        Yuan Zhe Jin,Guang-Bin Zheng,이재협,Shi-Huan Han 한국생체재료학회 2021 생체재료학회지 Vol.25 No.3

Background: Autograft has been widely used in various orthopedic and dental surgery for its superior osteogenicity, osteoinductivity and osteoconductivity. But the available volume of the autograft is limited and the efficacy of it is highly affected by the condition of the patients. Therefore, growth factors such as Escherichia coli bone morphogenetic protein-2 (ErhBMP-2) has been widely used in some countries and regions with various carriers that could affect the effects of the growth factors. Demineralized bone matrix (DBM) has been widely used as a bone graft substitute and growth factor carrier, but its effect as a carrier of ErhBMP-2 was less investigated. Materials and methods: Rat calvaria defect model was used in this study. We implanted ErhBMP-2 with DBM or hydroxyapatite (HA) as a carrier in 8mm calvaria defect and compared their bone regeneration effect in 4th week and 8th week after implantation with micro-CT and histology. The data was analyzed with one-way ANOVA method with Bonferroni post-hoc analysis. Result: The group with DBM as the carrier showed significantly higher bone volume and bone thickness than the groups with HA as the carrier in both weeks. And the histology sections showed less adipose tissue formed in the groups with DBM as the carrier. Conclusion: DBM could be a better carrier for ErhBMP-2 than HA.

      • Property Alignment of Linked Data Based on Similarity between Functions

Yu Liu,Shi-Hong Chen,Jin-Guang Gu 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.8 No.4

Owing to the complex structure and multi-meaning, property alignment is generally regarded as a challenging problem in the context of linked data. In this paper, we propose a novel method to align properties between datasets of linked data. Considering the role of properties in RDF triples, we regard all properties of linked data as property functions, and convert the problem of property alignment to the similarity evaluation between property functions, while the equivalent instances as inputs of property functions. Based on the similarity of property functions, the property alignment process of linked data is introduced. In order to prove the validity, we use the method to align properties in five representative domains between DBpeida and YAGO, DBpedia and LinkedGeoData respectively. The experimental results show that our method is independent of the property naming rules and can retrieve some matching properties ignored by other methods. In addition, our method requires fewer entity co-reference links than the link statistical approach.
